What can only be described as the Saddest Moment in Privatisation history - the Diminishing of WSMR. Plenty of Enthusiasts turned out for this event - one of which got in the way, so the video was all that good. Anyway here is the Finale departing London Marylebone Bang on the dot at 1830. 82301 + 67013....

Campervan Adventure number 2 of 2018 takes us to Plassey Touring site in Wrexham. This is currently our favourite touring site with a vast array of facilities including Golf, Fishing, Swimming, an incredible secure park for the kiddies and much more. The pitches are fantastic with an option of super pitches with water, waste, electric and TV / Sky points or the slightly cheaper large pitches down in Spring Meadow near the dog walk. Toilets and showers are very clean and the staff are very friendly and theres also a clubhouse, 2 restaurants, a coffee shop, hairdressers and mini mart. Check it out

=== A SHORT HISTORY ===
The building of Caergwrle Castle began in 1277 by Dafydd ap Gruffudd, with the financial assistance of King Edward I of England. Dafydd had sided with the king following a dispute with his older brother Llywelyn (the Last). However, he later turned against King Edward I and was reconciled with his brother following the Treaty of Aberconwy in November 1277.
In 1282, Dafydd (along with many of the Welsh princes who had supported Edward I against Llywelyn in 1277) turned against the English and attacked Hawarden, beginning another revolt.
Dafydd, along with his younger brother Owain, was captured on 22nd June 1283 and taken to Shrewsbury. On 30th September, he was condemned to death, and became the first prominent person in Britain to be executed by being hung, drawn and quartered. Edward wanted Dafydd's execution to be slow and painful following his treachery.

Ffrwd Canal, Wrexham.
After several aborted attempts due to bad weather, I finally got to go off and search for the route of the long lost 'canal that went nowhere' - the Ffrwd Canal in North East Wales on 23/August/2015.
The Ffrwd Canal was meant to be the branch of the Ellesmere Canal, serving coal mines and iron works near Wrexham. It was dug in part, as the Ellesmere Canal was meant to pass Wrexham heading for Chester. However, in 1803, the resident engineer William Jessop advised the canal company to abandon its plan to dig from Trevor (Pontcysyllte Aqueduct) to Chester in favour of cutting eastwards to Nantwich to connect with an existing canal to Chester.
Once approved, the Ffrwd Canal was left literally, high & dry, isolated and useless as the main canal line it was supposed to link with didn't happen. What was constructed ended in 1805, the same year the Ellesmere Canal (now Llangollen Canal) and Pontcysyllte Aqueduct were officially opened.
The whole canal was opened by 1813 and became a great commercial success but was no doubt quite the opposite for anyone who invested in the Ffrwd Branch.
There are some records about the canal's history and route, but not many. I decided to follow the canal route as best I could and trace it through the hilly terrain between Gwersyllt and Ffrwd, a hamlet near the village of Cefn y Bedd.
