The Texas Bucket List - Wyler Aerial Tramway in El Paso
We check out a majestic view on top of a mountain in El Paso.
The Wyler Aerial Tramway, El Paso TX
A trip to the top of the mountain on the Wyler Aerial Tramway in El Paso. It's an amazing experience that photos or video will never be able to accurately represent. We were told that funding for this State Parks project is in danger. If you are in Texas -- write your legislator and tell them to keep this treasure alive. (And yes, I am aware of continuity errors in this video, such as the car driving downhill on our way towards the mountain and the tram descending before we get to the top of the mountain. Call Martin Scorsese if you want well-edited video.)

Wyler Aerial Tramway (Going Up) in El Paso, Texas
[Filmed on November 4, 2012]
The ride up in tramway car #2. I apologize for the constant chatter, another couple in the tram car kept talking. The ride back down is much more quiet. If you listen in on the conversation, they were talking about a bomber plane that crashed into the east side of the mountain.

Wyler Aerial Tramway Gift Shop Tour (Ranger Peak) El Paso, Texas
[Filmed on November 4, 2012]
A quick tour of the nearly empty gift shop. When we went back in November, they were out of stock of almost everything.
You can hear in the video, my mom talking to the gift shop employee about why everything was out of stock. He said that back in August, the state of Texas froze the tramway's budget at the end of the fiscal year while they reviewed the new budget. [Note: The tramway is owned by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.] The week before this was filmed, they finally got their new budget approved. So I believe now the gift shop should be fully stocked.

Wyler Aerial Tramway Mountain Base Tour
[Filmed on November 4, 2012]
A tour of the Wyler Aerial Tramway mountain base. The video of the ride up will be coming on February 2, 2013.
HISTORY of the tramway:
As the various informational boards indicate, the tramway was most recently remodeled in 1999. In 1999, they replaced both of the tramway cars with new Swiss cars and new cables. In the year 2001, the tramway re-opened to the public for the first time since 1986. The tramway closed in the 1986 because the liability insurance became too costly. When Karl Wyler died, he donated the tramway (in his) will to the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife. The D.P.W. accepted the donation in 1997 and started work on reopening the tramway immediately.
