Plant 46-13 district title-clinching victory over the Wharton
We want to thank A-1 Status Entertainment for all of our special songs created for Plant Panthers.
Plant and Wharton By the Numbers
The Plant Panthers jumped out to an 35-0 halftime lead and then coasted to 46-13 district title-clinching victory over the Wharton Wildcats Friday night at Mitchell D. Muley Stadium. And the numbers didn't lie.
TEN -- Number of different Plant players who had at least one carry on the night (with Patrick Brooks leading the way), two more than the number of different Plant players who had at least one pass reception (led by seniors Austin Hudson and Cam Winter and junior Jordan Reed).
NINE -- Consecutive District Championships for the Plant Panthers and head coach Robert Weiner, the longest current streak in the State of Florida. Although the Panthers have one district game remaining on their schedule, the win Friday night clinches the district title for Plant.
EIGHT -- Uniform number of Plant defensive back Derrick Baity, whose interception and 25 yard return for a touchdown early in the second quarter gave the Panthers a comfortable 21-0 lead.
SEVEN -- The number of wins that Plant now has after starting the season with a tie and an early season loss.
SIX(TY) -- Yards that sophomore Scoop Bradshaw traveled with his return of a free kick by Wharton after Wildcat QB Chase Litton was tackled in the end zone for a safety by several members of the Plant defense. This was Bradshaw's first career varsity touchdown. Bradshaw also had at least one tackle for a loss from his safety position.
FIVE- Uniform number of Plant quarterback Colby Brown, who threw for over 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns, but no interceptions, in earning Player of the Game honors from BHSN.
FOUR -- First half touchdowns scored by Plant.
THREE -- First half field goals by a duo of Plant kickers. Junior Clarke Miller connected from 36 and 38 yards, while senior Hunter Anderson split the uprights with a 35-yard effort.
TWO -- Second quarter touchdowns by Plant senior Fletcher Barnes -- one on a 3-yard run and one on a 12-yard pass. Also, the number of TD passes thrown by Wharton's quarterback, Chase Litton (a 29-yard scoring strike to Austin Colley and a 5-yard pass to Auden Tate on the final play of the game).
ONE -- Touchdown-saving tackles by Plant kicker Christian Chambers, who followed his 4th quarter kickoff with a terrific sideline tackle.
Plant moves to 7-1-1 on the season (4-0 in the district) and travels to play district foe Alonso next Friday night. Wharton, on the other hand, drops its second game in a row, after five consecutive wins, and falls to 6-3 (2-2 in the district). The Wildcats have a must-win district showdown next Friday night on the road against Bloomingdale.

SUMMARY
=======
The Battle of Mobile Bay of August 5, 1864 was an engagement of the American Civil War in which a Union fleet commanded by Rear Admiral David G. Farragut, assisted by a contingent of soldiers, attacked a smaller Confederate fleet led by Admiral Franklin Buchanan and three forts that guarded the entrance to Mobile Bay. A paraphrase of his order, Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead! became famous. Farragut's actual order was Damn the torpedoes! Four bells. Captain Drayton, go ahead! Jouett, full speed!.
The battle was marked by Farragut's seemingly rash but successful run through a minefield that had just claimed one of his ironclad monitors, enabling his fleet to get beyond the range of the shore-based guns. This was followed by a reduction of the Confederate fleet to a single vessel, ironclad CSS Tennessee.
Tennessee did not then retire, but engaged the entire Northern fleet. Tennessee's armor enabled her to inflict more injury than she received, but she could not overcome the imbalance in numbers. She was eventually reduced to a motionless hulk and surrendered, ending the battle. With no Navy to support them, the three forts also surrendered within days. Complete control of lower Mobile Bay thus passed to the Union forces.
Mobile had been the last important port on the Gulf of Mexico east of the Mississippi River remaining in Confederate possession, so its closure was the final step in completing the blockade in that region.
This Union victory, together with the capture of Atlanta, was extensively covered by Union newspapers and was a significant boost for Abraham Lincoln's bid for re-election three months after the battle.

The Great Gildersleeve: Jolly Boys Election / Marjorie's Shower / Gildy's Blade
Premiering on August 31, 1941, The Great Gildersleeve moved the title character from the McGees' Wistful Vista to Summerfield, where Gildersleeve now oversaw his late brother-in-law's estate and took on the rearing of his orphaned niece and nephew, Marjorie (originally played by Lurene Tuttle and followed by Louise Erickson and Mary Lee Robb) and Leroy Forester (Walter Tetley). The household also included a cook named Birdie. Curiously, while Gildersleeve had occasionally spoken of his (never-present) wife in some Fibber episodes, in his own series the character was a confirmed bachelor.
In a striking forerunner to such later television hits as Bachelor Father and Family Affair, both of which are centered on well-to-do uncles taking in their deceased siblings' children, Gildersleeve was a bachelor raising two children while, at first, administering a girdle manufacturing company (If you want a better corset, of course, it's a Gildersleeve) and then for the bulk of the show's run, serving as Summerfield's water commissioner, between time with the ladies and nights with the boys. The Great Gildersleeve may have been the first broadcast show to be centered on a single parent balancing child-rearing, work, and a social life, done with taste and genuine wit, often at the expense of Gildersleeve's now slightly understated pomposity.
Many of the original episodes were co-written by John Whedon, father of Tom Whedon (who wrote The Golden Girls), and grandfather of Deadwood scripter Zack Whedon and Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog).
The key to the show was Peary, whose booming voice and facility with moans, groans, laughs, shudders and inflection was as close to body language and facial suggestion as a voice could get. Peary was so effective, and Gildersleeve became so familiar a character, that he was referenced and satirized periodically in other comedies and in a few cartoons.
