Yamate is an area in south of Yokohama that has strong link with France and other occidental countries. You can access easily as It is right next to China Town.
From Shibuya, take Tokyu Toyoko Line toward Motomachi Chukagai and get off at the terminus.
From Tokyo, take JR Tokaido Line (Ueno Tokyo Line) and change at Yokohama. Then take Minato Mirai Line toward Motomachi Chukagai.

Been to Yamate District ( aka The Bluff ) in Yokohama Japan?
Video I took while roaming around the Yamate District of Yokohama. A historical Residential area settled by Foreigners in the 1860's. (Time reference - at the time of U.S. Civil War)
Walking in Yokohama, Japan - Motomachi & Yamate - 4K 60FPS
In this video I'm exploring Motomachi and Yamate in Yokohama, two of the first areas in Japan to gain a significant population of westerners. Many of the first international businessmen and diplomats settled here during the years after Japan finally opened up it's borders.
Today, many older buildings influenced by western architecture are still standing here, some of them has been turned into small museums and other cultural facilities.
Yokohama is the second largest city in Japan, and located about 30 minutes by train from the Japanese capital. It makes for a great day-trip and is well worth visiting thanks to it's different ambiance and slightly more laid-back culture.
This was filmed in November 2018 with a Fujifilm X-T3 in 4K 60FPS. The lens used is a Laowa 9mm f2.8, and the camera was mounted on a Zhiyun Crane for stability.
Shot in F-Log and graded in Adobe Premiere CC.
This was the first time for me to try out using an external mic (Zoom H1, with windshield/dead cat) when filming. Please let me know if you notice any difference in the audio quality. It was a very windy day so some wind noise can probably still be heard, but I think it's a great improvement compared to when I was using the internal mic.

Yamate Italian Garden, Yokohama
Yamate Italian Garden is a beautiful park with a fountain, stone pavements and flowerbeds, having a surface area of approximately 13,000 square meters. The name derives from the fact that the Italian consulate was located here during the Meiji period. One can view the verdant Yamate area from the lookout on the hill. Two western houses, the Diplomat's House and the Bluff 18 Ban-Kan have been rebuilt. (Info from Google)

Minato-no-Mieru-Oka Park is one of the sights overlooking Yokohama Port. In spring and autumn, the rose garden is in full bloom.
Yamate in Yokohama was made a settlement in 1867, and houses for foreign residents and Christian schools were built. Even now, some houses remain, making it a tourist spot full of exoticism. There are buildings such as The home of a Diplomat, Berikku Hall, Erisuman House, Yokohama British House, Bluff No.18, Bluff No.111, Bluff No.234.

Yamate (山手) is the name of a historic neighbourhood in Naka-ku, Yokohama often referred to in English as The Bluff. The neighbourhood is famous as having been a foreigners' residential area in the Bakumatsu, Meiji and Taishō periods. While still dominantly residential in character, with views over downtown Yokohama, historic residential properties, ornamental gardens and public parks, the area is also a popular visitor destination.

Yamashita Park - Yokohama - Japan
The first seaside park in Japan located right in front of Yokohama Port, stretching almost 700 meters from the east side of Osanbashi to Yamashita Pier. It was opened in 1930 by land filling with the rubbles from the Great Kanto Earthquake.
The park includes a grass field, a rose garden, the Little Girl With Red Shoes On statue, the Guardian of Water statue which is a gift from San Diego, a sister city of Yokohama, and the Kamome no Suihei-san (Seagull Sailor) song monument, water stairs and a stage. The former cargo and passenger ship Hikawamaru is anchored here.
