HISTORY
Here are some highlights from our Paranormal Investigation at the Ye Olde Salutation Inn Caves, located in the city of Nottingham, England. Supposedly, the present building was constructed in 1240 as a workshop for a local tanner, with living accommodation in the upstairs rooms. The building is based on the site of a very old alehouse, formerly known as The Archangel Gabriel Salutes the Virgin Mary. This is where the Ye Olde Salutation Inn gets its name from. During the first part of what became known as English Civil War, both Parliamentarians and Royalists established recruiting rooms in the Inn. Following the Puritan victory, the authorities objected to the religious implications of the Inn and the Salutation was renamed to the Soldier and Citizen. This didn't last long however, as the original name was restored along with the Monarchy in 1660 and the Ye Olde Salutation Inn still stands here today in 2017.
The history of the caves go back farther in time, as an investigation by the Thoroton Excavation Society in 1937 dated the caves back to the 9th century, and concluded that they were part of an Anglo-Saxon farm, which was later used for servants' accommodation and brewing.
A fun fact, was that the Ye Olde Salutation Inn was featured [along with its respected rivals the Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem Inn and The Bell Inn] in an episode of Time Team's History Hunters, which aired in 1998 on Channel 4, to determine which Pub was the oldest in Nottingham.

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY AND GHOSTS
A 4-year old little girl dressed in Victorian clothing called Rosie, has been seen and heard at the Inn by members of staff and punters. It is said that she was a street urchin who was murdered on the site. A former landlord who unfortunately has no name, took his own life from being unable to handle the pressure of running the Pub. It is said his spirit haunts the Inn. Another former landlord who goes by the name John, is said to haunt here as he apparently poisoned himself and his family. He tends to flicker the lights down in the Inn's cellar. A ghost of a highwayman is suspected of returning back to the Inn every now and then. Lastly, a ghost of a man in medieval clothing has been spotted inside the Pub, but no one knows who he is.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSION
We believe by the end of that night, we came into contact with the child spirit of Rosie, a former landlord and owner called John [possibly John Alastre] and another spirit who either died of old age or had respiratory problems.

Nottingham- Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem
Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem in Nottingham is one of the 20 public houses (including Ye Olde Salutation Inn and The Bell Inn also in Nottingham, and Ye Olde Fighting Cocks in St Albans (acclaimed in the Guinness Book of Records)) which claim to be the oldest drinking establishment in England. Its painted sign states that it was established in 1189 AD. However, there is no documentation to verify this date, and the main building, built on the foundations of earlier constructions, is about three hundred years old.
The Trip (as it is known locally) is at the foot of Castle Rock in Nottingham's City Centre. According to local legend it takes its name from the 12th Century Crusades to the Holy Land: legend has it that knights who answered the calls of Richard I to join the crusades stopped off at this watering hole for a pint on their way to Jerusalem. It is even claimed that Richard himself frequented the pub although this is probably merely legend as the king spent little time in the country. However, the word trip in the pub's name does not mean an entire journey; it derives from an older meaning of the word: a stop during a journey (i.e. break in the journey to the Holy Land). Others say that the pub takes its name from a religious group called the Philadelphians who used to meet in Brewhouse Yard (but this does not fully explain the name).

Nottingham- The Salutation and The Royal Children
A video looking at The Salutation and The Royal Children.
The traditional sign of this like-named hostelries (I.e. of the Archangel Gabriel 'Saluting the Virgin Mary) aroused the religious scruples of the Puritans when they came to political power (1649-1659) and formed the so called Commonwealth Government. The innkeeper here was ordered by the new masters either to remove the offending sign or have it repainted and some approved sign substituted. Naturally, he wished neither to alter his sign out of all recognition nor to lose his licence, so he compromised- as did many of the royalists colleagues- by renaming his Inn the 'Solider and Citizen'. Despite this it thankfully the name of the Salutation stuck all along with its punters and the name as never chaged since.
The pub dates around 1240 AD. Research has suggested that the first building on the site of the pub was an homestead of an unnamed Tanner who made animal skins into leather.
The second pub in the video is curiously named Royal Children has its part to play in Britsh history. In 1688, when the throne of King James II was in peril, he arranged for Anne. (1646-1723 r. 1702-14) his daughter, to be spirited away to Nottingham.
While in Nottingham Castle, Anne endeared herself to the citizens of the city and became popular amongst the locals.
Tradition has it that her children (from her union with Prince George of Denmark) were accommodated in this inn....or because Princess Anne's children used to play with the then Landlords children. Unfortunately none of Anne's children survived into adulthood and it is said that the restless spirits of her offspring still walk in and around the site.
The name The Royal Children is painted on the one piece of whale-bone that was publicly displayed in Nottingham. They brought the sign inside as it was rotting away but it used to hang outside the front door.

Spirytus, full set @ The Olde Salutation, Nottingham, 18/12/2015
This was billed as the possibly the final Spirytus show or at the very least, an end of an era as it shall be be the last show in the band's current guise.
Well I wasn't going to miss this show whether the band finally decide to continue or otherwise. In the end the show was a fitting tribute to a great UK metal band and one of my personal favourite bands. They were always welcoming to me and I was very pleased to capture this particular footage. I have had the honour of filming some of their greatest performances, such as Bloodstock 2015 where they took the New Blood Stage by storm. This is my record record and tribute to a great band that I will miss in the current format or entirely if they completely split. They are clearly a very talented bunch of musicians at the very pinnacle of the their genre in my opinion.

Halloween - The Nottingham Ghost Walk - Storytelling at Ye Trip to Jerusalem
Halloween weekend 2011 and we join the infamous Nottingham Ghost Walk. Several locations are visited from Graveyards, old cobbled streets, the Nottingham castle and here to 'Ye olde Trip to Jerusalem' to hear another ghostly tale...
Nottingham- Inside The Trip to Jerusalem
Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem in Nottingham is one of the 20 public houses including Ye Olde Salutation Inn and The Bell Inn also in Nottingham, and Ye Olde Fighting Cocks in St Albans (acclaimed in the Guinness Book of Records) which claim to be the oldest drinking establishment in England.
The pub is famous for its caves, carved out of the soft sandstone rock against which the building is set. The larger ground level caverns are now used as the pub's rear drinking rooms. There is also a network of caves beneath the building, originally used as a brewery. They seem to date from around the time of the construction of the castle (1068 AD).
The cursed galleon is a small wooden model of a ship in one bar. It's claimed that people who have cleaned it have all met a mysterious death. Landlords have refused to allow anyone to dust the ship over the years, allowing inches of thick grime to build up on it. The galleon is now encased in glass — previously, large clumps of dust would fall off into unsuspecting drinkers' pints.
The Trip also contains an antique chair; it is claimed that a woman who sits in the chair will increase her chances of becoming pregnant.
