What to do in Santorini 2019 - [ Santorini Greece ] - What to do in Santorini
What to do in Santorini 2019 - [ Santorini Greece ] - what to do in Santorini ?
Santorini scuba diving is great if you are looking for adventure. What else to do if you travel to Santorini? You can hike the Fira Trail on donkeys, you can admire the beautiful Santorini sunset from Oia Village in 2019 or drive atv or quad.
Here are some other things to do in Santorini Greece in 2019:
1. Go cliff jumping at Amoudi Bay.
It was honestly one of the best things I did during my stay in Santorini. You can swim straight off the rocks, or if you are game, climb up the stairs of the massive boulder in the water and do your best dive in!
2. Hike the Fira Trail
If you want a chance to up your Instagram game with some of the BEST photo opportunities Santorini has to offer, this hike is a must. I recommend doing the hike at sunset, as it won’t be as hot at this time of day, AND you’ll get the most beautiful photos at this time of day!
3. Stay in a Cave house
We stayed in a lovely hostel called Caveland in Karterados for five nights during our stay in Santorini. The hostel itself felt wonderfully Grecian- think traditional, white-washed cave-style buildings featuring bright blue doors framed by fuchsia flowers. Complete with a pool, super friendly and helpful staff, and even morning yoga classes, it was incredible as far as hostels go (not to mention a total bargain)! On the downside, the location was quite isolated and was a fifteen-minute walk to get into the main town of Fira. If you are looking to be in the center of all the action, your best bet is to actually stay in Fira, although you may pay a little more to do so.
4 Hire a quad bike and drive around the island
What better way to explore this beautiful island then cruising down the roads with the wind in your hair!? Hiring a quad bike (or ATV) for the day is surprisingly cheap and only requires a standard license. It’s a great way to discover areas that aren’t accessible by bus (and to feel super cool while you’re at it).
Alternatively, if you don’t have a driver license, you could cruise around the island on an electric bike tour instead.
If you want more of an adrenaline dose, Santorini also offers an endless array of activities including helicopter tours, parasailing, and scuba diving.
5. Go on a Sunset Wine Tour
Santorini is home to many fantastic wineries, so make sure you don’t leave the island without sampling the island’s finest grapes! If you want the full experience, take a sunset wine tour, where you will be taken to 3 traditional wineries to taste over 12 wines. On the final stop, you’ll get to sip your wine whilst watching Santorini’s famous sunset- there isn’t really much that can beat wine with a view!
6. Eat Frozen Yogurt for dinner - best thing if you don`t know What to do in Santorini 2019
Alright, I’ll let you off if least make it your second course after 2€ gyros. But seriously, the frozen yogurt I had in Santorini still lingers in my food dreams. If you are in Thira, you must check out Chillbox. They’ve even got Bueno sauce topping to put on your frozen yogurt- it’s almost too good to be true. Once your mouth is in heaven, you can sit back and think about how cool it is that you are eating frozen Greek yogurt in Greece. Yep, that’s next level cool.
7. Jump off a boat into hot springs
Picture this. You’re on a boat. You dive off into the cool Mediterranean ocean. You swim about twenty meters and suddenly, the water changes color and temperature and you’ve just swum into hot springs. This is just another one of those unique things you HAVE to do during your stay in Santorini (just don’t wear your best swimsuit in the hot springs, I’m still mourning over my ruined bikini).
It’s not every day you have the option of dining with arguably one of the best views in the world. Even if you’re on a budget, choose at least one night to splurge a little at one of the many restaurants overlooking the ocean. Time your reservation for sunset and prepare to have your mind (and hopefully tastebuds) blown. The last night we were in Santorini we ate out at Volcano Blue, a reasonably-priced restaurant along the water at Fira with a priceless view.
9. Sunbake (or fry) on the black sand beaches this is What to do in Santorini 2019
For a unique, and to be honest, slightly painful experience, head to the black sand beaches of Kamari and Perissa. Within seconds of stepping on to that hot sand in summer, your feet will fry and you’ll turn three shades darker. But hey, that’s all part of the fun- right?
10. Get the perfect spot to watch the best sunset in the world
So I know it’s an obvious one, but there is a very good reason why this is recommended on every Santorini guide imaginable. I’m not exaggerating when I say that sunset at Santorini. Now you know What to do in Santorini 2019
SANTORINI TRAVEL GUIDE (Top Things To Do In Greece)
SANTORINI TRAVEL GUIDE (Top Things To Do In Greece) This island is best known for its stunning views of the water, amazing sunsets over Oia and the Santorini volcano. In Santorini you can find some of the most luxury and expensive hotels that are in Greece. As for where to stay in Greece? Some of the main areas to stay here include Oia which would be the most expensive and Thira which is the capital of Santorini found right in the middle and since Fira is the hub of the island you’ll have easy access to everything if you stay here. A new up in coming area for boutique hotels is Akrotiri. Even though this area is kind of far out you will be situated near some popular tourist destinations such as the red beach, archaeological park and the lighthouse.
Since there are a lot of different areas to visit in Santorini you’re going to need to figure out some transportation options. there are a few ways to get around the island the most affordable being the bus - which is actually a really nice air conditioned bus that is mainly tourists and the best part of all is it just costs just a few bucks to get to the different parts of the island. you can also hire a driver or rent your own car or ATV.
How long should you stay in Santorini? Spending around 2-4 days here will allow you to see everything and have some time to relax as well. From dining at one of the many Greek restaurants on the island to doing a day trip to the volcano. There is no shortage of both relaxing and adventurous activities here. So definitely make sure to add Santorini to your list of places to visit in Greece.

Welcome to Santorini!
If you’ve heard of Santorini the chances are an image of white washed towns, blue topped chapels and world class sunsets springs to mind.
This picture perfect greek island that lies in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km southeast of Greece's mainland, now sees nearly 2 million tourists every year.
Quite a number compared to the 15,000 people who live there.
There's no denying it’s attraction.
The island owes its good looks to a volcanic eruption in 1613BC, that formed dramatic cliff drops, multicoloured beaches, and a sea lagoon called The Caldera.
This iconic setting has made Santorini one of the most memorable and photogenic of the greek islands.
However, Santorini isn’t just any greek island, it has its own subculture that sets it apart from the rest. Yes it’s very greek, but Santorini greek, from signature food dishes made from produce that only grows on the island, to the unique way grapes grow in their vineyards.
And on the subject of vineyards and wine … there is so little rain on Santorini, that wine in more plentiful than water.
The island has seen quite a transformation in the past 60 years. It’s hard to believe it had no electricity up until 1960, especially when looking at the glamorous town of Oia which has now become a haven for sun seekers indulging in the romance of luxury hot tub apartments and fancy restaurants.
On first looks it certainly seems like Santorini has a lot going for it so, naturally, we wanted to find out what all the fuss was about.
Although sunbathing all day overlooking the caldera with a frappe might be tempting, Santorini is so beautiful, you’ve got to get out there and explore all the wonders this island has to offer. In this video we’re going to take you through food, language, money and transport. But let’s start with our top things to do here on Santorini.
Fira is on the top of a cliff edge and is home to the Old Port right underneath it. The port is almost 600 steps down, or you can opt for the cable car which runs every twenty minutes.
There is another option, to take a donkey ride up and down. We sadly saw a lot of unhappy donkeys made to stay out in the sun with sores on their backs from carrying tourists.
As a result of seeing this I can only ask you avoid riding the donkey’s and instead do what we did - walk down and take the cable car back up!
At the port you’ll find souvenir shops, restaurants and this is also where you can pick up a tour to the nearby volcano or hot springs.
A fun way to see the island is to rent an ATV! We found a ton of rental shops in Oia. We were their off season so didn't need to pre book but if your there in July and August you might find you need to do this.
Driving one of these along the coast line was so much fun, just make sure you have a driving licence, wear the helmet provided and wear protective clothing to stay safe!
There is a fantastic walk that runs from Oia to Fira. It takes about 3 hours to complete and runs all along the coast line with views of the Caldera and cliffs the whole way.
The walk is incredible but there is not much shade so it’s wise to start early, bring sun cream and drink plenty of water.
We took a half day boat trip with ‘Sunset Oia’ that took us around the caldera visiting the white and red beach and hot springs.
Santorini’s hot springs are on the tiny, uninhabited island of Palea Kameni. The volcanic activity underground maintains the springs’ temperature at 30°C to 35°C.

Things to know before visiting Santorini
Things to know before visiting Santorini
Here are a few things to know before traveling to Santorini that I wish someone had told me before I traveled there. It’s always good to do some research before visiting a new place, hopefully these insights give you more of an idea of what to expect and how to plan your travel to Santorini.
Santorini is a volcanic island. To be more precise it is an active volcano!
Thousands of years ago the centre part of the island collapsed into the sea creating a unique open sea lagoon. The Caldera is the sea lagoon that has been created.
During the peak season (June – August) the prices all over Greece are higher, there are more people everywhere and finding hotels with views and availability is difficult. However, you will have warm Mediterranean weather and sunny days, also everything will be open for anything you want or need.
A visit to Santorini during the off season (Sept – February), the island is very quiet and you will feel like you are the only one there. Unfortunately many of the luxury resorts, travel companies and restaurants are closed at this time of year because of the small amount of tourists and the weather.
Another of the things to know before visiting Santorini is during the wintertime the island can get very cold, especially at night. We traveled to Santorini in October, and it was very difficult to find good food, accommodation and activities – but we managed, so don’t be disheartened if you are not able to visit during the warmer seasons. You will still have a great time even if it’s cold and quiet.

Santorini is by far the most famous island in Greece and for good reason. It’s iconic white and blue houses, dramatic cliffs, and centuries-old cuisine make give it the reputation as the ‘Crown Jewel of Greece.’
When in Fira you have to take a donkey ride up from the port up to the told town. It’s best to take it up now down because the way down is a bit slippery and I wouldn’t recommend it.
Many tourists arriving by cruise ship choose to take a donkey up the 588 steps from the old port to the town of Fira. If you want a faster alternative, there’s a cable car that takes about 3 minutes and costs 5 Euros.
Oia is the northernmost town in Santorini. It’s a picturesque village and from here you have incredible views of the caldera. The entire town in pedestrian friendly, there’s tavernas, souvenir shops and boutiques. Now lets explore Oia!
We are here at Ammoudi Port, this is a small port at the base of Oia. It takes around 200 steps to walk down from Oia, you can also drive down. We are eating today at Dimitris Taverna, which was the first restaurant to be established at the port. From here you have the best sunset from Santorini!
Dimitris restaurant is delicious! We had a rock lobster pasta, white wine, Greek salad, meze plates, and a grilled fish!
Next up are two ancient Greek sites! You may be surprised to know there’s a lot of history on this island.
Akrotiri is considered to be the Pompeii of the Aegean because it has been preserved by volcanic ash. What you see is a village that date back to 1650 B.C., which is the middle Bronze age period. They also found artifacts that date back to the 5th millennia B.C., which is late Neolithic period.
The settlement was destroyed in the volcanic eruption around 1627 BC and was completely buried by volcanic ash, which ended up preserving many frescos, artworks and buildings. It will take you around 1 hour to visit the site. Next up is the ancient city of Thera!
The ancient city of Thera was built in the 8th century B.C. about 1000 years after the volcanic eruption that destroyed Akrotiri. It was built by Dorian’s from Sparta, and named after their leader Theras. From here you have incredible views of Kamari Beach and the Aegean Sea.
A few must see’s here are the ancient Agora, the 2nd century Theatre and the public Stoa, or portico that was supported by 10 Doric columns
Santorini is famous for it’s wine, but did you know that they have one of the best micro breweries in Greece? Donkey Brewery was established in late 2011, and they currently produce up to 70 litres of beer. Yellow, Red and Crazy donkey are the three main beers of the company!
At the brewery you can watch and learn about the whole process of beer making! If your wondering about the name of the brewery is because Santorini is famous for its donkey’s.
If you want to experience a typical Santorinian village, head to Pyrgos, which is located at the highest point on the island. Here you’ll get some amazing panoramic views of the island and get the chance to see its traditional archictecture.
Now let’s head to a winery!
We head to Sigalas winery, it’s located right outside of Oia. Next up is Gaia Winery! It’s situated on the beach in an old factory.
We saved the best for last because there’s nothing quite like experiencing Santorini’s unique caldera by sea.
Today we are sailing around Santorini with Santorini Sailing. We’ll be making a few stops at red beach, white beach, sail through the caldera, stop at sulfur springs and end in Ammoudi Port.
Let’s hit those thermal waters. As you approach the thermal spring the water really warms up.
As we make our way closer to Ammoudi port, we sail closer and to disembark.
We stopped at Saint Nicholas Church to jump off the base. Let’s do this!!!
That was our top 10 things to see and do in Santorini Island! Comment below if you have been or want to go!

15 Things to do on Santorini, Greece Travel Guide Video Transcript: (Σαντορίνη / Θήρα Ελλάδα):
We got our first glimpse of Santorini aboard the ferry and it was immediately apparent why this place has been linked to the Lost City of Atlantis.
What was once a single island, was destroyed by a massive volcanic eruption, and all that remains today is the caldera rising out of the Aegean Sea.
The first thing that caught our attention were the soaring red cliffs, and atop these, a collection of villages, all painted white.
We imagined we’d spend our week in Santorini just lounging around, but the island lured us out to hike its trails, get lost in its towns, and look back at its history. So with that in mind, in this travel guide we’re going to share with you a few things to do in Santorini on your visit!
The hike from Fira to Oia turned out to be our favourite activity on the island, but we’ll warn you, it took us closer to 5 hours, so go prepared with lots of sunscreen, plenty of water, and a few snacks to sustain you along the way.
Of course, no trip to Santorini would be complete without spending a bit of time in Oia.
Situated on the northern tip of the island and built on the slope of the caldera, this is probably the most picturesque town on the island, and a very popular spot right around sunset.
We had a leisurely ride out to the island and once we docked, we paid an additional 2 Euros and 50 cents per person for admission to Nea Kameni Volcanic Park.
From there we hiked along a gravel path until we reached the top of the crater, where we did a full circuit around the rim.
There were a few spots where we could even see active sulphur vents.
And that’s a wrap for our time in Santorini! We came here thinking we’d do a whole lot of relaxing and not much else, but as it turns out, this is a great island for an active holiday.
Our week in Santorini was spent village hopping, hiking the trails, learning about the island’s history, and feasting on Greek food.
It was the perfect way to end our travels in Greece, and also wrap up our Eurotrip.
Wishing you happy travels, and we’ll see you in the next video!

Things to do in Santorini -What to do in Santorini in 2019 Travel Guide
Santorini is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece and in Europe, especially among couples. It’s best known for its iconic whitewashed houses and blue-domed chapels that are perched on the cliffside, overlooking the legendary caldera and its world-famous sunset.
What to do in Santorini in 2019?
Here are more bits you should know about the island.
Language: Greek. However, English is widely spoken. Street signs are written both in Greek and English, so going around isn’t a problem at all.
Currency: Euro (EUR, €). €1 = 1.14 USD, SGD 1.6, PHP 61 (as of October 2018)
Modes of Payment: Cash is still the most common, but credit card payments are widely accepted too.
Best Time to Visit Santorini
April to October. This period sees sunny skies and generally pleasant weather.
In particular, the summer months of June to September are the driest and hottest, which is great for chasing the beach. However, it is also the high season, so expect the island to be crowded and the prices to go higher.
What to do in Santorini in 2019 ?
If you want to avoid the crowd and have the island to yourself (and a few others), travel between mid-November and March, Santorini’s off season. This is when the prices of flights and hotels go down drastically. I know because this is exactly how I was able to visit Santorini: cheap airfare and rooms. But there’s a catch.
Santorini is home to several communities spread around the island. The best place to stay depends on your travel style. Basically, the first thing you should ask yourself is whether you want to stay on the beach or atop the cliff. If you prefer the beach, find a place in Kamari or Perissa.[ this is related to Things to do in Santorini 2019 ]
But most tourists visit Santorini for that gorgeous view of the caldera and the sunset. In this case, pick a village that is perched on the island’s cliffs. You have four great options: Fira, Oia, Imerovigli, and Firostefani and that is a best Things to do in Santorini 2019
Fira. The capital and main town of the island. This is where most the action happens. Lots of lodging options and tour agencies. Plenty of cafes, bars, and restaurants around. Nightlife is vibrant too. Almost all bus routes in the island start and end at the main terminal in Fira, which means every part of the island is accessible from here. If you’re a backpacker or budget traveler, stay in Fira.
Firostefani. Situated north of Fira. Just like in Fira, the views here are majestic. It also has the same vibe, with a lot of accommodations and restaurants. The difference is, it’s less crowded.
Imerovigli. Farther north from Firostefani. Built on the tallest part of the caldera ridge at 300masl, this village is often dubbed the “Balcony of the Aegean.” Small hotels and restaurants abound too. It’s less crowded and less busy than Fira, but less expensive than Oia- [ What to do in Santorini in 2019 ]
Oia. The poster village of the island. The photos in most Santorini postcards you see are shot here in Oia. Lying in the caldera edge of the island’s northernmost tip, it also offers a marvelous view of the caldera and the sunset. It is a top attraction so expect it to be heavily crowded with hordes of tourists during the day in peak season. BEst Things to do in Santorini 2019: At night, though, it is pretty quiet since most visitors are here on a day tour and are staying in Fira. In winter, most hotels and restaurants are closed, so it gets even quieter. The catch is, it has the most expensive accommodations. One thing I like about Oia is that it’s extremely romantic. If you’re on a honeymoon or romantic trip, stay in Oia and you will
IMPORTANT REMINDERS for Things to do in Santorini 2019,
Cliffside hotels or suites are not for everyone. The hotels and points of interest are connected by staircases that wind across the side of the cliff. If you choose a place far down, you’re going to have to climb back up every time you want to go elsewhere. Because the sights are spectacular, you probably won’t mind. But I can imagine how difficult it must be if you’re traveling with seniors, young kids, or PWDs and Things to do in Santorini 2019,
Santorini Greece in Winter | The Itinerary for a Perfect Winter Date in Santorini
Last February 2019, we decided to go to Europe with Santorini, Greece as one of our destinations. It was winter in Santorini and I couldn't think of a better time to have a romantic date without the busy tourists that visit this beautiful island during the summer.
Let me share with you my tips on how to have the perfect winter date in Santorini:
1. Book the perfect hotel in Santorini that is overlooking the Caldera. I recommend Genesis Cave Houses in Oia. It has the million dollar view that the rest of the 1000 Euro/night hotels in Oia has to offer.
2. Have breakfast at Vitrin in Oia. The Crepe and the coffee tasted a hundred times better because of the unobstructed view of the caldera. They also have a terrace where you can dine if you prefer.
3. Catch the KTEL bus from Oia to Fira. From this route, make sure to sit on the left side of the bus to enjoy the view. The fare is very cheap at approximately 1.80 Euro per person (the taxi with this route is around 25 Euros)
4. Explore Fira especially around the edge of the cliff where the view is the most scenic. We wanted to do the Fira-Oia hike but (and this is not an excuse) there was a gaping hole along the way. We only lasted until Firostefani. We'll definitely conquer it next time!
5. Have a break at Town Club and say hi to their beautiful cat, Violeta. This is also a good place to warm up, have a bio-break and enjoy a cup of coffee. I recommend you try Greek Coffee. A tip: sip slowly, it's meant to enjoy as slowly as possible and do not eat the grounds! (I like mine sweet and single shot)
6. Continue exploring Fira and if you want to buy souvenirs here since it's less expensive here than in Oia. We really enjoyed the treatment we got at Akron (a store in front of a bank) because the owner was so friendly, accommodating and gave us discounts and gifts!
7. Once ready for lunch, head out to Pelican Kipos. I can't praise this place enough. The moment we entered, the son of the owner greeted us. He even said that he was plucking dead flowers in order to strengthen the other flowers in bloom. The ambiance, the food, the service was 5 star. You have to try their Greek wine. I promise you, it's one of the best I've ever tasted.
8. Head back to Oia and explore the cobblestone streets, domes and say hi to the cats. One of my favorite here is the Atlantis Bookstore where you'll see a rent a cat sign. It's really a joke!
9. Once you've worked on an appetite, head to Thalami in Oia for an early dinner before catching the sunset. You have to try the seafood in Santorini. I ordered octopus and thoroughly enjoyed it. We also had mushroom risotto with graviera cheese. Graviera cheese is very popular in Greece (next to Feta!)
10. Finally, head back to Vitrin where we had our breakfast earlier today to catch the beautiful sunset in Oia. Make sure you hold your beloved's hand and make a wish.
I am very grateful and fortunate to experience this with my soulmate. Santorini, Greece is very new to us and we can't wait to come back and
