Road to 150: Best Things To Do In The Yukon
In this video, we share some of the best things to do in the Yukon, including Whitehorse, Dawson, Kluane National Park, and more!
Welcome to the Yukon!
Known for its dramatic landscapes, vast wilderness, and the famous Klondike Gold Rush, the Yukon has been capturing people's imaginations for years. With four-legged creatures far outnumbering humans, Canada's tallest mountain peaks, and the world's largest non-polar glacier, the Yukon is a true paradise for adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts.
We started our journey in Whitehorse, the Yukon's capital city. From here, we toured the SS Klondike, ate some delicious food in Whitehorse's oldest buildings, saw heaps of wildlife, and caught a glimpse of the Northern Lights. We then went to Dawson, the worlds most famous gold rush town. While walking around the old boardwalk streets was incredible enough, we also went gold panning, toured the massive dredge #4, watched a Cancan show at the oldest casino in the country, and took a river cruise on a paddle-wheeler. We then drove up the infamous Dempster Highway all the way to Eagle Plains, past the Arctic Circle and into the Northwest Territories. After coming back and spending another night in Dawson, we drove to Kluane National Park for one of the most epic flightseeing tours we've ever experienced.
We explored the Yukon from August 16 - September 6th, 2017!

Alaska Tour - Watson Lake, Yukon Terr. - Stop #4
Today we continued our Alaska Tour towards Watson Lake in the Yukon Territory of Canada!
During our drive, we stopped at the Cassiar Mountain Jade Store where 90% of the world wide Jade is mined! This place was quite large, and busy. It just so happened that the Discovery Channel was there filming for an upcoming special on Jade to be aired sometime next year, and we were all asked to sign waivers just in case we were viewed during the show!!
We then continued our drive to Watson Lake and arrived just in time to put up the retired NH 'JEANNIE' license plate in the Sign Post Forest! I helped Jeannie put it up on a post at the top, near the front for all passersbys to see!

RV ALASKA Highway: Teslin to Whitehorse Yukon & Surprise Visit
I drove the Alaska Highway from Teslin to Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory in my Hymer Aktiv camper van. To my surprise, my oldest nomadic friends, Eric and Rachel Wiser, randomly showed up in Whitehorse at the coffee shop I was at in Whitehorse! As a digital nomad, I needed WiFi and my hotspots aren't working well in the Yukon Territory so off to Starbucks to work until it's time to continue on the Alcan Highway to Alaska.

EP 20: Atlin Adventure
Atlin is one of the most beautiful places yet mostly untouched from commercial tourism. This was another hot tip recommended by our mechanic friend in Vancouver.
Situated at the most northern tip of British Columbia Canada, access is only possible from a connecting highway in Yukon Territory thats winds it way through yet another spectacular road. The town itself is very quiet with mainly locals going about there business, but surrounding the area you can find hiking, fishing and plenty of lake side camping.
We chose a great FREE open grassy spot located right next to a warm spring bubbling away. Going for dip in the spring wasn't the most appealing but putting aside the shrimp and moss it really wasn't that bad (Josephine).
We highly recommend Monarch mountain trail as it was 5/10 difficulty and once your up on the peak you can continue walking the ridge with alot of area and other peaks to explore once your up.
Over all its a excellent trip out making for a relaxing week or weekend away.
HOT TIP: Travel to Atlin when its music festival is on. As you walk around the town there's bench seats painted from each year of the festival. Talking to locals and friends from Carcross it sounds like the town lights up for the weekend so highly recommend it !!!!!

ALASKA Highway Road Trip & Crazy Construction in Yukon Territory
I'm RVing to Alaska on the Alaska Highway, or Alcan Highway, but first you have to go through Canada. I'm in the Yukon Territory in this episode and it's so beautiful! You have to stop by the Sign Post Forest in Watson Lake. It's a touristy thing, but it's kind of fun.

2019 08 15 UPPER YUKON FLATS FINAL
Watch the season wrap up for the Chalkyitsik and Cornucopia Complexes. This twelve minute wide ranging summary brings you to the front lines.
In mid-July storms passed through the Yukon Flats with thousands of lightning strikes. Drought conditions left the trees and duff layer very dry allowing fires to grow and difficult to contain. The rest of Alaska was also experiencing an extreme fire season and resources were limited. The BLM Alaska Fire Service (AFS) requested the assistance of the Alaska Interagency Incident Management Team and a National Incident Management Organization to oversee fires burning east of Chalkyitsik and west of Fort Yukon. The highest priority for fire personnel was to ensure the protection of the Gwich’in villages of Chalkyitsik, Beaver and Venetie in addition to Native allotments.

Fire Map for All Fires in the Upper Yukon Area (created August 12, 2019)
Resources such as equipment and personnel have completed their missions and have been transported to Fairbanks for release to their home units. Fire managers have built a plan to support a proactive response should fire activity increase in the weeks and months ahead. The BLM AFS will regularly conduct reconnaissance flights to monitor fire activity and possible growth.
Firefighters protected valuable assets including the villages, cabins and allotments by using point protection measures, saw lines around allotments, and nearly 18 miles of controlled containment line from Ohtig to Chahalie Lakes east of Chalkyitsik. Many of these fires will continue to burn, but the intensity will depend on several factors: the increasingly shorter days, the lower angle and intensity of the sun, and the possible onset of cooler, damper weather between dry spells. It will take a significant amount of rain over a long time frame to put fires out completely. Due to extreme drought conditions across the Yukon Flats, pockets of peat may carry fire through the winter. Reconnaissance flights in the spring will be conducted with this possibility in mind.
Residents in the area are asked to remain vigilant both in the short and long term when re-entering areas or allotments that have been impacted by fire activity. The fire has burned underground in many areas of the tundra, into deep duff and through tree root systems. Fire weakened trees can fall with very little wind. White ash on the ground may indicate deep pockets of hot ash where roots and ground vegetation have burned and may continue to burn below ground level. Sever burns may occur by stepping or falling into these pockets of hot ash. Walking through burned areas is not safe.
Chalkyitsik Complex: Tractor Trail 2 Fire (#348), 92,628; Frozen Calf Fire (#367), 240,543 acres; Bearnose Hill Fire (#407), 130,768 acres; Tettjajik Creek Fire (#424), 41,300 acres; Small Timber Lake Fire (#687), 34 acres. The complex total is 505,273 acres.
Cornucopia Complex:, Hadweenzic River Fire (#337), 62,068 acres; Chandalar River Fire (#349), 13,114 acres; Tony Slough Fire (#493), 7,961 acres; East Fork Chandalar Fire (#572), 190 acres; Pitka River Fire (#573), 1,260 acres; Thazzik Mountain Fire (#594), 4,992 acres; Coal River Fire (#601), 2606 acres; The Woodsman Fire (#602), 0.1 acres; Trail Creek Fire (#621), 2,742 acres; Sixty-One Mountain 1 Fire (#622), 22 acres. The complex total is 95,335.1 acres.

Claire Lake - Wilderness Fishing Yukon
Claire Lake lies 85 air miles north of Whitehorse in Canada’s Yukon. This lake is 15 miles long, up to one mile wide and has sheltered areas near the camp. This lake has many great drop offs for casting. It also offers excellent opportunities to sight cast for Arctic Grayling and Northern Pike. The deepest spot in Claire Lake is 350 feet deep.
Claire Lake has fishing for Lake Trout, Northern Pike, Arctic Grayling, White Fish and Burbot. To date, the largest Trout out of Claire weighed 35 pounds and the largest Pike measured 52 inches. Grayling average 1-2 pounds.
Finally Made it to ALASKA RVing the Alaska Highway in my Campervan
This is my last day RVing the Alaska Highway to the Alaska border Canada crossing. Traveling through Canada on this Alaska road trip has been breathtaking and incredible beauty. I hope Alaska can live up to this type of beauty. My Hymer campervan did well except for the windshield breaking which I kind of expected.
