Skiing for Christmas in Beijing teaching abroad during the holidays.
There isn't much of a Christmas celebration in China, so Ti and I decided to go skiing for Christmas. It was a great experience and I have a feeling we will be going back often. When teaching in China, it is easy to get homesick, especially around the holidays, so you need to find ways to take your mind off of it. This is a great way to do it.
If you are interested in teaching in Guangzhou, China, send me your information at mylifeabroadchina@yahoo.com.

SUGGESTED LEAD-IN:
Beijing's ski season got off to an early start this month, even before much snow had fallen on the Chinese capital.
On the far outskirts of the city, about two hours drive to the northeastern Huairou district, a new ski resort has opened.
In the past, winter sports in Beijing amounted to no more than ice skating over frozen lakes and rivers, but now skiing and snowboarding have been added to the list of recreational pastimes.
VOICE-OVER:
0003 Overlooked by the Great Wall of China and nestled among the mountains of Huaibei County, the new ski resort was opened with the usual loud and colourful ceremony that comes with the launch of a new business.
0015 UPSOUND (Official announces the opening of Huaibei International Ski Resort)
0020 The resort, on the far outskirts of Beijing, uses machines to provide the artificial snow which lines the pistes.
0027 The Chinese capital already has a handful of ski resorts built on the wave of the sport's increasing popularity.
0034 The new resort hopes to attract two-thousand visitors a day and has already lined up three-thousand sets of skis and boots for hire.
0042 Most people are novice skiers who appear a little nervous - just using the button lifts seems to be a skill in itself.
0049 But the operative word is fun, with a day here providing a welcome break from the bustle of Beijing.
0054 UPSOUND (Man shouting Get out of the way!)
0057 The difficulties involved in creating and maintaining the snowy track are evident in the brown hills surrounding the resort.
0104 But the middle-class Beijing clientele seems to justify the investment.
