Kimono Show at Kyoto's Nishijin Textile Center
A free afternoon kimono show at Kyoto's Nishijin Textile Center. The upstairs of the museum is a work center for crafts people, where you can speak with the artists creating kimono items and decorating them. Taking a look at the effort that goes into their artistry explains why so many kimono and kimono items are as expensive as they are.

Sake Noana 酒の穴 is a sake bar and great budget Japanese restaurant in Ginza, Tokyo. My wife and I had just landed in Tokyo, and we really had no plans for where to eat lunch, so we took a walk outside our hotel, and we found this place just by chance.
It turned out to be an excellent little basement restaurant, and although it’s known to be a Japanese sake bar, they also have some amazing lunch specials, which I thought were a very good deal for Tokyo.

Akihabara
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Akihabara (Japanese: 秋葉原) Field of Autumn Leaves, also known as Akihabara Electric Town (Japanese: 秋葉原電気街 Hepburn: Akihabara Denki Gai), is a district of Tokyo, Japan. It is located less than five minutes by rail from Tokyo Station. Its name is frequently shortened to Akiba (アキバ) in Japan. While there is an official locality named Akibahara, which is also 秋葉原 in kanji, nearby (as part of Taitō-ku), the area known to most people as Akihabara (including the railway station of the same name) also include Soto-Kanda, a part of Chiyoda-ku.
Akihabara is a major shopping area for electronic, computer, anime, games and otaku goods, including new and used items. New items are mostly to be found on the main street, Chūōdōri, with many kinds of used items found in the back streets of Soto Kanda 3-chōme. New parts for PC-building are readily available from a variety of stores. Tools, electrical parts, wires, microsized cameras and similar items are found in the cramped passageways of Soto Kanda 1-chōme (near the station). Foreign tourists tend to visit the big name shops like Laox or other speciality shops near the station, though there is more variety and lower prices at locales a little further away. Akihabara gained some fame through being home to one of the first stores devoted to personal robots and robotics.
The area was just out of Sujikai-gomon city gate (present Mansei bridge) which was one of the city gates (Mitsuke) of old Edo (Tokyo). It was the gateway from inner Edo to northern and northwestern Japan and Kan'ei-ji temple in Ueno. Many dealers, craftsmen and relatively lower class samurai lived there.

Hama Rikyu - Japanese Garden, Tokyo ● 浜離宮恩賜庭園
► Hama Rikyu Garden is located in Chuo-Ku, adjacent to Sumida Gawa river.
It is by no means among my favorite gardens in Tokyo, but still it offers some good spots of its own, which I'm gonna show you in this little feature. Best point about Hama Rikyu is its many bridges, and its sheer size, it is huge - you can spend quite long time walking around there. It also offers a teahouse where you can treat yourself with a real Japanese tea-ceremony. Less good points - and perhaps due to the same reason (its size) - it is somehow too open and lacks the detail and intimacy that other gardens offer, so it's somewhat less inviting for exploration. That said, compare this with any western style garden, and this wins by many lengths - it's a nice place to spend an afternoon in central Tokyo. - Enjoy!

Tokyo Manga Shop & Anime Studio Mega Tour ★ ONLY in JAPAN #29 東京漫画ショップ&アニメスタジオツアー
Anime and manga fans are increasing world wide! Tokyo is at the center of it all so in this episode, John Daub and Patrick W. Galbraith, author of the Otaku Encyclopedia and Moe Manifesto head to Nakano Broadway and Mandarake, a famous manga shop.
This place is otaku heaven!
Here we discuss:
★ Why is manga and anime becoming more popular?
★ Dragon Ball Z GOKU vs. SUPERMAN
★ Anime vs. Manga
Is the book better than the movie?
We also look at some of Mandarake's collectable toys and some of the oldest manga available at the shop.
Next, we go to Asagaya and WAO Corporation's studio where they are making a crowd-funded anime production called Chuya-den.
Chuya-den, directed by Yoshiyuki “Yoshiko” Kaneko who studied animation under Taku Furukawa, the Japanese Animation Guru!
Chuya-den is using a new crowd-funding model for creating original anime. Connecting fans and creators to make original ideas is the key to the success of budding ideas and many young anime creators start in outfits like Chuya-den. Patrick and John look at the process from character creation to digitalizing and coloring in a small indie studio.

In Tokyo, These Trains Jingle All the Way
While most train stations alert passengers with basic dings and dongs, metro riders in Japan are treated to uniquely crafted melodies. Minoru Mukaiya is the mastermind behind these jingles—he’s made around 200 distinct chimes for over 110 stations. For Minoru, there’s no greater joy than bringing a little bit of music to millions across Japan every day.
