Our Accessible Rooms | Lake District Calvert Trust
We will do our best to give you the rooms which are best suitable for your needs and requirements.
We can take up to 60 residents at any one time with us able to cater for profound and complex disabilities. Our rooms are mainly twins, with some larger rooms available on request or for use by larger groups,
We take safeguarding issues very seriously, so our accommodation is over 3 separate areas, the Farmhouse, the Lower Byre and the Upper Byre, with each of these split down into 2 lockable corridors. This enables larger groups to have their own areas of accommodation areas not used by other residents.
Our bedrooms are all en-suite with level entry wet-room and toilet facilities. A number of the bedrooms also feature electric raisable beds which can be allocated if required. In rooms we can also place portable electric hoists, free-standing shower-chairs and medical fridges, with our intention being that with the exception of wheelchairs*, you don’t need to bring any specialist equipment.
(*we do not have oxygen or airflow mattresses on site, which you would need to book in advance with an outside supplier)

Lupton family
The Lupton family are of Yorkshire origin and first achieved prominence in ecclesiastical and academic circles in England in the 16th century through the fame of Dr Roger Lupton, provost of Eton College and chaplain to Henry VIII. By the Georgian era, the family's fame was cemented in the Northern English city of Leeds. Described in the City of Leeds archives as landed gentry, a political and business dynasty, they had become successful woollen cloth merchants and manufacturers who flourished during the Industrial Revolution and traded throughout northern Europe, the Americas and Australia.
As Members of Parliament – Arnold Lupton – and local politicians, the Lupton family contributed to the political life of both the UK and to the civic life of Leeds well into the 20th century. Several members were close to the British Royal Family and particularly philanthropic. Many were Mayor and later Lord Mayor of Leeds and were progressive in their views. They were associated with both the Church of England and the Unitarian church in England. The Lupton Residences of the University of Leeds are named after members of the family and the world's largest law firm, DLA Piper, was established by solicitor Sir Charles Lupton as Dibb-Lupton.

Slovene for beginners
We've been learning Slovenian in Sedbergh for about a year now - mostly from books. So this summer we invited a teacher from Slovenia to help us with some of the trickier aspects of the language. Darja Mihelj from Branik came and helped us for a weekend. We decided to make a video of some of the simplest words and phrases which someone visiting Slovenia for the first time might need - the sorry, thankyou, and can I have some beer please? sort of phrases. I hope you find it useful. If you would like to read about how our town Sedbergh has been getting on with its twinning with a town in Slovenia (Zrece) you might like to visit the Sedbergh website and look under town twinning and music. We are in the Yorkshire Dales in the north of England and have had over 30 exchanges with Zrece in Slovenia between our school children, singers, town bands, cyclists, footballers and friends who go back and forth as if we were two parts fo the same town.

An English Jumble Sale
The English love a good jumble sale: a bunch of stuff piled on tables, available at rock-bottom prices. It could be trash, it could be treasure. John Kelly captured this jumble sale in the English village of Wolvercote, outside Oxford.

Places to see in ( Reeth - UK )
Places to see in ( Reeth - UK )
Reeth is a village about 11 miles west of Richmond in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire, England, located within the civil parish of Reeth, Fremington and Healaugh. Historically part of the North Riding of Yorkshire, it is considered to be the principal settlement of upper Swaledale.
In Saxon times, Reeth was only a settlement on the forest edge, but by the time of the Norman conquest it had grown sufficiently in importance to be noted in the Domesday Book. Later it became a centre for hand-knitting and the local lead industry was controlled from here, but it was always a market centre for the local farming community.
The origin of the name Reeth is unclear. It is possibly derived from the Germanic for 'place by the stream'. While this claim can neither be confirmed nor denied, Reeth could also have been derived from the Cumbric rith (cf. ryd in Modern Welsh, rys in Cornish ) meaning 'Ford'. Both would make sense as Reeth is located near two shallow rivers.
Reeth is located on the B6270 road that crosses the entirety of Swaledale, linking Richmond with Kirkby Stephen in Cumbria. Nearby settlements to Reeth include the fellow parish villages of Fremington 0.5 miles (0.80 km) east and Healaugh 1.4 miles (2.3 km) to the west, as well as Grinton, 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the east. Reeth is situated at the meeting point of the two most northerly of the Yorkshire Dales: Swaledale and Arkengarthdale. It is also near to Reeth that Arkle Beck from the north joins the River Swale. The village is overlooked by the surrounding fells of Harkerside Moor, Fremington Edge and Calver Hill. Alfred Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk, an unofficial but popular long-distance footpath from Saint Bees to Robin Hood's Bay, passes through Reeth.
Primary education is provided by Reeth Community Primary School, which is engaged in a confederation with nearby Gunnerside Methodist Primary School. Pupils then receive secondary education at Richmond School & Sixth Form College. In May and June every year, Reeth becomes the hub of the Swaledale Festival, a two-week celebration of small-scale music and guided walks. Additionally on the final Wednesday of August, the Reeth Show, an agricultural event, is held, in 2012 it celebrated its centenary year. Reeth is also home to the Swaledale Museum, which covers rural history including life and work in the local area of Swaledale and Arkengarthdale within the Yorkshire Dales national park.
( Reeth - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Reeth . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Reeth - UK
