Poison Ivy
1. Where is poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac found?
Poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac grow practically everywhere in the United States, except Hawaii, Alaska and some desert areas of Nevada. They are the most common causes of allergic reactions in the United States.
2. What causes the poison ivy rash?
Poison ivy rash is really an allergic contact dermatitis caused by a substance called urushiol, found in the sap of poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac. Urushiol is a colorless or slightly yellow oil that oozes from any cut, or crushed part of the plant, including the stem and the leaves. You may develop a rash without ever coming into contact with poison ivy, because the urushiol is so easily spread. Sticky, and virtually invisible, it can be carried on the fur of animals, on garden tools, or on any objects that have come into contact with a crushed or broken plant. After exposure to air, urushiol turns brownish-black, making it easier to spot. Once it touches the skin, the urushiol begins to penetrate in a matter of minutes. It can be neutralized to an inactive state by water.

⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ Walking NYC (Narrated) : Canal Street, Manhattan in its Entirety from Chinatown to Hudson River
Google Maps Route:
In this video, I walk Manhattan's Canal Street in its Entirety from Chinatown to the Hudson River. I begin my walk by exiting the East Broadway subway station on the F line.
From Wikipedia:
Canal Street is a major east–west street in Lower Manhattan, New York City, running from East Broadway between Essex and Jefferson Streets in the east, to West Street between Watts and Spring Streets in the west. It runs through the neighborhood of Chinatown, and forms the southern boundaries of SoHo and Little Italy as well as the northern boundary of Tribeca. The street acts as a major connector between Jersey City, New Jersey, via the Holland Tunnel (I-78), and Brooklyn, New York City, via the Manhattan Bridge. It is a two-way street for most of its length – from West Street to the Manhattan Bridge – with two unidirectional stretches between Forsyth Street and the Manhattan Bridge.

⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ Walking NYC (Narrated) : SoHo, Manhattan (July 10, 2019)
Google Maps Route:
Join me as I narrate a walk through the SoHo neigborhood in Manhattan.
From Wikipedia:
SoHo, sometimes written Soho, is a neighborhood in Lower Manhattan, New York City, which in recent history came to the public's attention for being the location of many artists' lofts and art galleries, but is now better known for its variety of shops ranging from trendy upscale boutiques to national and international chain store outlets. The area's history is an archetypal example of inner-city regeneration and gentrification, encompassing socioeconomic, cultural, political, and architectural developments.
The name SoHo refers to the area being South of Houston Street, a name coined in 1962 by Chester Rapkin, an urban planner and author of The South Houston Industrial Area study, also known as the Rapkin Report. The name also recalls Soho, an area in London's West End.
Almost all of SoHo is included in the SoHo–Cast Iron Historic District, which was designated by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1973, extended in 2010, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1978. It consists of 26 blocks and approximately 500 buildings, many of them incorporating cast-iron architectural elements. Many side streets in the district are paved with Belgian blocks.
SoHo is part of Manhattan Community District 2 and its primary ZIP Codes are 10012 and 10013. It is patrolled by the 1st Precinct of the New York City Police Department.

Mahalo travel expert Asha K. gives you a few tips on visiting the historic Ground Zero in Manhattan.
Overview
---------------------------------------------------------------------
No trip to New York City is complete without paying your respects to the lives lost during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Located on the former sight of the World Trade Center in the heart of Manhattan's famed Financial District, Ground Zero is being rebuilt with a memorial and six new skyscrapers set to be completed by 2011 and 2014 respectively.
History
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Construction on the World Trade Center complex began in 1966 and was finished in 1972. It was designed by American architect Minoru Yamasaki and developed by the Port Authority of New York City. The complex consisted of seven buildings, but the most notable were the Twin Towers, which were each 110 stories tall (1,350 feet). The complex housed over 500 companies from 86 different nations. On a typical workday, 50,000 people worked in the towers which became a symbol of American capitalism the world over.
September 11, 2001
---------------------------------------------------------------------
On the morning of September 11, 2001, terrorists crashed two U.S. commercial jetliners into the towers, killing 2,982 people. American Airlines flight 11 crashed into the northern facade of the north tower at 8:46 a.m., striking between the 93rd and 99th floors. Seventeen minutes later, United Airlines flight 175 impacted into the south tower, between the 77th and 85th floors. At 9:59 a.m., the south tower collapsed after burning for approximately 56 minutes. The north tower collapsed at 10:28, after burning for approximately 102 minutes. At 5:20 p.m., 7 World Trade Center collapsed due to damaged infrastructure and uncontrolled fires. These attacks marked the beginning of an international War on Terror which commenced with the US-led invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. The attacks' mastermind, Osama Bin Laden, was finally killed by U.S. forces on May 2, 2011 in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
Memorial
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The National September 11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center Foundation began formal operations in the spring of 2005 in conjunction with the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation on the design and construction management plan. The names of the 2,982 victims of the 9/11 attacks, as well as the six victims of the February 26, 1993 bombing, are inscribed on bronze panels lining two reflecting pools. The surrounding plaza is filled with oak trees and a callery pear known as the Survivor Tree, which was nursed back to health after surviving the 9/11 attacks. The Memorial opened on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and the Memorial's Museum will open in September 2012. Visitors must reserve advance passes to both the Memorial and Museum for a specific date and time. Passes are free and will be available through the Memorial's reservation system. The reservation system is made available at 911memorial.org starting in the summer of 2011.
Reconstruction
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Five new skyscrapers (Towers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5), a World Trade Center Transportation Hub, Retail Complex and Performing Arts Center is planned to be completed by 2014, according to New York City and state officials. The site will feature a collection of works by world-renowned architects Santiago Calatrava, David Childs, Norman Foster, Frank Gehry, Fumihiko Maki and Richard Rogers.

New York Travel Destination & Attractions | Visit Niagara Falls Cayuga Park Show
Niagara Falls Cayuga: Gahnawehtaˀ or Tgahnawęhtaˀ[1]) is the collective name for three waterfalls that straddle the international border between Canada and the United States; more specifically, between the province of Ontario and the state of New York. They form the southern end of the Niagara Gorge.
From largest to smallest, the three waterfalls are the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. The Horseshoe Falls lie mostly on the Canadian side and the American Falls entirely on the American side, separated by Goat Island. The smaller Bridal Veil Falls are also located on the American side, separated from the other waterfalls by Luna Island. The international boundary line was originally drawn through Horseshoe Falls in 1819, but the boundary has long been in dispute due to natural erosion and construction.[2]
Located on the Niagara River, which drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, the combined falls form the highest flow rate of any waterfall in the world, with a vertical drop of more than 165 feet (50 m). Horseshoe Falls is the most powerful waterfall in North America, as measured by vertical height and also by flow rate.[3] The falls are located 17 miles (27 km) north-northwest of Buffalo, New York and 75 miles (121 km) south-southeast of Toronto, between the twin cities of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Niagara Falls, New York.
Niagara Falls were formed when glaciers receded at the end of the Wisconsin glaciation (the last ice age), and water from the newly formed Great Lakes carved a path through the Niagara Escarpment en route to the Atlantic Ocean. While not exceptionally high, the Niagara Falls are very wide. More than six million cubic feet (168,000 m3) of water falls over the crest line every minute in high flow,[4] and almost four million cubic feet (110,000 m3) on average,More Info

STORYLINE:
In a deal that saved the tradition of high tea in the Palm Court - along with hundreds of jobs - the new owners of the New York landmark Plaza Hotel and its union reached an agreement that will keep some elegant interior spaces intact and reduce the number of rooms converted into luxury condos in an upcoming renovation.
The agreement was finalised Thursday in a City Hall meeting involving Elad Properties and the New York Hotel Trades Council. It still needs to be ratified by the union membership, but that appears to be a formality.
Elad owner Yitzhak Tshuva and union president Peter Ward were greeted with wild applause when they raised their intertwined hands toward the gilded ceiling of the ballroom where Donald Trump once married Marla Maples.
Since its 1907 opening, the 19-story Beaux Arts building has become an integral part of New York City and its lore. The Beatles stayed there in 1964 while in the city for The Ed Sullivan Show, Trump used to own it, and author Kay Thompson's famous children's books on Eloise are set there.
The agreement comes just two weeks before a USD 350 million (m) renovation is scheduled to begin at the hotel overlooking Central Park. Elad paid USD 675 million (m) for the Plaza last summer.
Elad will still convert part of the building into 150 luxury condominiums, but 348 rooms will remain part of the hotel. Earlier plans called for turning the 805-room hotel into 200 condominiums and 150 hotel rooms.
The union was guaranteed 350 jobs with a good chance that number could increase, and workers who wanted a buy-out received two weeks severance for every year worked, Ward said. The Plaza currently has
900 union workers.
Under the agreement, the hotel's famed public spaces - the ballroom, the Palm Court team room, the Oak Room and the adjoining Oak Bar - will remain an open space for all New Yorkers and visitors to the city, New York mayor Michael Bloomberg said.
While the hotel's exterior was granted landmark status in 1969, its interior did not have that protection. Fears that the hotel would lose many of its famous spots prompted a Save the Plaza movement.
