TRIP TO LONDON, OXFORD STREET, CENTRAL LONDON, OXFORD STREET IN LONDON
TRIP TO LONDON, OXFORD STREET, CENTRAL LONDON, OXFORD STREET IN LONDON
London Listeni/ˈlʌndən/ is the capital and most populous city of England and the United Kingdom. Standing on the River Thames in the south east of Great Britain, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. It was founded by the Romans, who named it Londinium.London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its 1.12-square-mile (2.9 km2) medieval boundaries and in 2011 had a resident population of 7,375, making it the smallest city in England. Since at least the 19th century, the term London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core. The bulk of this conurbation forms Greater London, note 1] a region of England governed by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. The conurbation also covers two English counties: the small district of the City of London and the county of Greater London. The latter constitutes the vast majority of London, though historically it was split between Middlesex (a now abolished county), Essex, Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire.
London is a leading global city, with strengths in the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism, and transport all contributing to its prominence.[It is one of the world's leading financial centresand has the fifth-or sixth-largest metropolitan area GDP in the world depending on measurement.[note London is a world cultural capital. It is the world's most-visited city as measured by international arrivalsand has the world's largest city airport system measured by passenger traffic.[ London is one of the world's leading investment destinations, hosting more international retailers and ultra high-net-worth individuals than any other city. London's 43 universities form the largest concentration of higher education institutes in Europe, and a 2014 report placed it first in the world university rankings. According to the report London also ranks first in the world in software, multimedia development and design, and shares first position in technology readiness. In 2012, London became the first city to host the modern Summer Olympic Games three times. The etymology of London is uncertain.[50] It is an ancient name, found in sources from the 2nd century. It is recorded c.121 as Londinium, which points to Romano-British origin.[50] The earliest attempted explanation, now disregarded, is attributed to Geoffrey of Monmouth in Historia Regum Britanniae. This had it that the name originated from a supposed King Lud, who had allegedly taken over the city and named it Kaerlud

London walk: St James's Park on a summer's evening, via St James's Square, Pall Mall and The Mall
St James’s Park on a summer’s evening with the sun starting to set is the focus of this walk. I start at Piccadilly Arcade making my way along Jermyn Street and then past Christie’s to arrive at St James’s Square (the gardens were closed by the time I arrived). From there I headed down to Pall Mall, the route of a previous walk I had done in the winter, and onto Waterloo Place before crossing The Mall into St James’s Park. Everyone was out enjoying the August sunshine as it started setting providing shadowy views across St James’s Park Lake across to Buckingham Palace from the vantage point of Duck Island Cottage. With Horse Guards Parade to my left and Birdcage Walk to my right, I passed the Churchill War Rooms and headed towards HM Treasury before turning into Birdcage Walk ending the walk at Westminster and Big Ben all covered in scaffolding. At the end of the video, I have included a couple of extra sections – one of the view from Westminster Bridge along the Thames towards the London Eye and the other taking a very quick peek inside Fortnum and Mason. Finally, if you look carefully to the right around 15:40 in St James's Park, you will see some pretty impressive gymnastic moves.

My equipment
DJI Osmo Pocket.
Honestly I’m not that happy with the footage I shot for this video, I seem to be back to my old habits of moving the camera too much. I thought the Pocket had put an end to that, so I’m not quite sure why it came out super-swingy. I’ll try harder next time; I find I work better with the Pocket attached to a phone, so will go back to that again.

London 4K - Monday Morning - Driving Downtown UK
Monday morning drive around the St James District in downtown London. Highlights include the Royal Mall area, Buckingham Palace, Bond Street, Trafalgar Square, and Parliament Street. St James's is a central district in the City of Westminster, London, forming part of the West End.
London is the capital and largest city of both the United Kingdom and England. Standing on the River Thames in southeastern England, 50 miles (80 km) upstream from its estuary with the North Sea, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. Londinium was founded by the Romans. The City of London, London's ancient core − an area of just 1.12 square miles (2.9 km2) and colloquially known as the Square Mile − retains its medieval boundaries. The City of Westminster is also an Inner London borough holding city status. Greater London is governed by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. London is often considered the leading global city exerting a considerable impact upon the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism and transportation. London, the fourth fastest-growing city, is 26 out of 300 major cities for economic performance. It is one of the largest financial centres and has either the fifth or sixth largest metropolitan area GDP. It is the most-visited city as measured by international arrivals and has the busiest city airport system as measured by passenger traffic. It is the leading investment destination, hosting more international retailers and ultra high-net-worth individuals than any other city. London's universities form the largest concentration of higher education institutes in Europe. In 2012, London became the first city to have hosted three modern Summer Olympic Games.
London has a diverse range of people and cultures, and more than 300 languages are spoken in the region. Its estimated mid-2016 municipal population (corresponding to Greater London) was 8,787,892, the most populous of any city in the European Union and accounting for 13.4% of the UK population. London's urban area is the second most populous in the EU, after Paris, with 9,787,426 inhabitants at the 2011 census. The population within the London commuter belt is the most populous in the EU with 14,040,163 inhabitants in 2016. London was the world’s most populous city from c. 1831 to 1925.
London contains four World Heritage Sites: the Tower of London; Kew Gardens; the site comprising the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey, and St Margaret's Church; and the historic settlement in Greenwich where the Royal Observatory, Greenwich defines the Prime Meridian, 0° longitude, and Greenwich Mean Time. Other landmarks include Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, St Paul's Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square and The Shard. London has numerous museums, galleries, libraries and sporting events. These include the British Museum, National Gallery, Natural History Museum, Tate Modern, British Library and West End theatres. The London Underground is the oldest underground railway network in the world.
