⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ Walking NYC : New York City Hall Area & Civic Center, Manhattan
Google Maps Route:
A walk through New York's Civic Center, walking through streets such as Centre Street, Broadway, Chambers Street, Duane Street, Worth Street, and Foley Square.
The Civic Center is the area of lower Manhattan, New York City, that encompasses New York City Hall, One Police Plaza, the courthouses in Foley Square, and the surrounding area. The district is bound on the west by Tribeca at Broadway, on the north by Chinatown at Worth Street or Bayard Street, on the east by the East River and the Brooklyn Bridge at South Street, and on the south by the Financial District at Ann Street.
Although government-related activities are predominant, other pursuits also occur within the district, including entertainment, industrial activity, residential dwellings, and warehousing. For example, there are Chinese restaurants near Civic Center's border with Chinatown, in addition to some museums and some residential buildings in the Civic Center area. The area is roughly 10 blocks long and 5 blocks wide, but is far less dense than most of Manhattan, where the average number of residents for an area that size is 35,000; the Civic Center has approximately 20,000 residents.
The Jacob K. Javits Federal Building is located in the area. It includes the Federal Bureau of Investigation New York field office.
Non-government buildings include the 387 feet (118 m) 15 Park Row, an office and residential building which was the city's highest from 1899 to 1908. 150 Nassau Street, a 21-story granite building, was once a publisher's building, as were many in the area, but is now a residential building, as is 38 Park Row. The 76-story 8 Spruce Street is among the world's tallest residential buildings. Southbridge Towers, once Mitchell-Lama affordable housing, is now market-rate housing.

The Beauty of the world around us.
The City of New York, usually referred to as either New York City (NYC) or simply New York (NY), is the most populous city in the United States. With an estimated 2018 population of 8,398,748 distributed over a land area of about 302.6 square miles (784 km2), New York is also the most densely populated major city in the United States. Located at the southern tip of the state of New York, the city is the center of the New York metropolitan area, the largest metropolitan area in the world by urban landmass and one of the world's most populous megacities, with an estimated 19,979,477 people in its 2018 Metropolitan Statistical Area and 22,679,948 residents in its Combined Statistical Area. A global power city, New York City has been described as the cultural, financial, and media capital of the world, and exerts a significant impact upon commerce, entertainment, research, technology, education, politics, tourism, art, fashion, and sports. The city's fast pace has inspired the term New York minute. Home to the headquarters of the United Nations, New York is an important center for international diplomacy.
Situated on one of the world's largest natural harbors, New York City consists of five boroughs, each of which is a separate county of the State of New York. The five boroughs – Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, The Bronx, and Staten Island – were consolidated into a single city in 1898. The city and its metropolitan area constitute the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. As many as 800 languages are spoken in New York, making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world. New York City is home to more than 3.2 million residents born outside the United States, the largest foreign-born population of any city in the world. As of 2019, the New York metropolitan area is estimated to produce a gross metropolitan product (GMP) of US$1.9 trillion. If greater New York City were a sovereign state, it would have the 12th highest GDP in the world. New York is home to the highest number of billionaires of any city in the world.
New York City traces its origins to a trading post founded by colonists from the Dutch Republic in 1624 on Lower Manhattan; the post was named New Amsterdam in 1626. The city and its surroundings came under English control in 1664 and were renamed New York after King Charles II of England granted the lands to his brother, the Duke of York. New York was the capital of the United States from 1785 until 1790, and has been the largest US city since 1790. The Statue of Liberty greeted millions of immigrants as they came to the U.S. by ship in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is an international symbol of the U.S. and its ideals of liberty and peace. In the 21st century, New York has emerged as a global node of creativity and entrepreneurship, social tolerance, and environmental sustainability, and as a symbol of freedom and cultural diversity. In 2019, New York was voted the greatest city in the world per a survey of over 30,000 people from 48 cities worldwide, citing its cultural diversity.
Many districts and landmarks in New York City are well known, including three of the world's ten most visited tourist attractions in 2013; a record 62.8 million tourists visited in 2017. Several sources have ranked New York the most photographed city in the world. Times Square, iconic as the world's heart and crossroads, is the brightly illuminated hub of the Broadway Theater District, one of the world's busiest pedestrian intersections, and a major center of the world's entertainment industry. The names of many of the city's landmarks, skyscrapers, and parks are known internationally. Manhattan's real estate market is among the most expensive in the world. New York is home to the largest ethnic Chinese population outside of Asia, with multiple distinct Chinatowns across the city. Providing continuous 24/7 service, the New York City Subway is the largest single-operator rapid transit system worldwide, with 472 rail stations. The city has over 120 colleges and universities, including Columbia University, New York University, and Rockefeller University, ranked among the top universities in the world.

Lady Liberty (Ch60) New York - USA
Lady Liberty (Ch60) New York - USA
In this chapter i hop onboard one of New York City's famous ferries and head over to The Statue of liberty located to the south of Manhattan island, its truly a magnificant sight to see and also gives you a good change to get a great view of the NYC skyline.
One of the best ways to get to the statue is to catch the 1 train head south all the way to the end at South Ferry Station, from here head out of the station into The Battery Park and towards Castle Clinton National Monument where you can purchase the ferry and island ticket for around $19 (Sept 2015). Included in that price is the ferry to The Statue of Liberty Monument and Ellis Island, you can pick up a free audio guide for both locations just past the main entrances.
The ferry first stops at Lady Liberty and then goes onto Ellis island which is where immigrants would be processed before heading into America, between 1892 and 1954 over 12 million future Americans passed through this island. Over the years the island has doubled insize an now largely resides in the state of New Jersey yet remaining federal property.
Both islands could happily be seen in either a morning or afternoon giving time for a coffee and snack in-between.
NB: Be prepared for airport style security before boarding the ferry, that means no large bags, liquids or weapons.
All footage filmed using an iPhone 5s and edited using Final Cut Pro and occasionally GoPro Studio.
Occasionally use a GoPro Hero 3.

St. Patrick's Day parade in New York 2017: Unedited VIDEO
saint patrick's day 2017 filmed in Manhattan New York City in the United States of America, Four hours and 42 minutes . St. Patrick's Day Parade New York,
The NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade is one of New York City’s greatest traditions. The first parade was on March 17, 1762 — fourteen years before the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence. The first NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade was comprised of a band of homesick, Irish ex-patriots and Irish military members serving with the British Army stationed in the colonies in New York. This was a time when the wearing of green was a sign of Irish pride but was banned in Ireland. In that 1762 parade, participants reveled in the freedom to speak Irish, wear green, sing Irish songs and play the pipes to Irish tunes that were meaningful to the Irish immigrants of that time.
Today, the NYC Parade marches up 5th Avenue and is reviewed from the steps of St. Patrick’s Cathedral by His Eminence, Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York. Since it began, this tradition of marching past St. Patrick’s Cathedral has remained unchanged with the exception of the address. In the early years, the Parade would march past the Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral (now Basilica) located at the corner of Mott and Prince Streets in SoHo.
Today, the Parade starts at 44th Street and 5th Avenue at 11am and proceeds up the avenue to 79th Street. Throughout the day along the Parade route, millions of spectators come to celebrate.
For the first few years, the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade was organized by military units. However, after the War of 1812, Irish fraternal and beneficial societies took over the duties of hosting and sponsoring the event. Around 1851 the “Irish” 69th Regiment began to lead the marchers. Also at that time, the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) became the official sponsor of the Parade as the individual societies merged under a single Grand Marshal. Today the 69th Regiment is still the first group to lead the Parade up 5th Avenue.

Moving to New York VLOG Williamsburg, Brooklyn NYC
// FOLLOW US:
The beautiful soundtrack is by 'We Don't Eat' by Irishman James Vincent McMorrow:
@Threadtherapy and I moved to New York City back in February of 2012. We were flat broke and didn't know a thing about the city. Over the past 7 years, we've learned so much about this amazing city and discovered our favorite restaurants, bars, and things to do in this city, and honestly are discovering more and more every day.
This VLOG is a compilation of our favorite moments from living in New York City for seven years. We moved from Manhattan to Brooklyn and since moving to NYC we never plan on leaving. The city is expensive, hectic, dirty, but also beautiful, inspiring and always offering you something new and exciting to do that makes us feel alive. Oh and the weather stinks in Winter.
// Moving to New York City Guide [New York VLOG]
When we first moved to NYC we lived next to City Hall, we found our building based on watching a Youtube video on New York by Gehry
At the time, we were drawn to the beauty of the building and had no idea what people were talking about when they talked about New York neighborhoods. We had been living in Florida our entire lives and didn't care about neighborhoods. We had a car, and if we wanted to go to a restaurant, bar or shopping we just hopped in a car and went.
In New York, you don't have a car, and are basically limited to a 4-5 block radius in any direction of available shops in your neighborhood. I remember in the City Centre we had no grocery store, no great restaurant, no bars, no good coffee shops, pretty much anything we wanted we had to take a cab or a subway, which really stunk.
Why did we live in Financial district? First of all, it was relatively affordable and they had a ton of new construction. You paid that low price because the 'hood stunk.
Luckily, the more we explored New York, we learned about neighborhoods and where we felt at home. They had amazing restaurants, bars, coffee shops and shopping all close-by. Also, the housing was affordable and offered tons of new construction. The neighborhood we love in New York City that has everything is Williamsburg.
// Williamsburg, Brooklyn City Guide
Having lived in Williamsburg BK for the past 5 years we've found some amazing bars and restaurants and these are our favorites:
Lilia - for the best pasta in the city
Maison Premiere - for amazing cocktails, absinthe and crab claws

Manhattan Rooftop Bar View (5th Avenue) - In A Brooklyn Minute (Week 99)
RE-PUBLISHED (original date: March 22, 2012) -- --
Views of 5th Avenue and surrounding buildings from Salon de Ning, the rooftop bar above the Peninsula Hotel (at 55th Street).
When I first dreamed of moving to New York City (at age 14) I always had the vision of living in a Penthouse with amazing views of skyscrapers, water towers and rooftop gardens. Instead I've always been living in Brooklyn on the ground floor with gardens for my cats and friends to hang out.
So it's always a special treat to enjoy an evening on a roof with a view - especially with interesting company and a Vodka Collins.
This week was an especially crappy one; with the death of our cat Jarmo, which is more heart-breaking than I had expected, and other bad changes, which will hopefully turn around again real soon. The only exception was that escapist Wednesday when I joined two celebrations in Manhattan - one which I'm not allowed to disclose yet and then the birthday of Maxx Klaxxon at Salon de Ning.
Throughout the week and today I've been collecting video for a bright and beautiful video. But in the end the dark, moody and foggy views of the nighttime city from an unusual perspective and distance seemed most fitting.
Next week for the 100th episode you can expect something more lively again. I think.
The featured song was again (in a surprisingly different genre) written and performed by Jason Matherne of Goonygoogoo Productions.
