A Dream Come True: Cullman Connected Playground
A Dream Come True: Cullman Connected Playground
Can a new playground embody the uncanny foresight, unwavering focus, flexible tenacity, raw entrepreneurial spirit and the sheer, unbreakable will of generations of citizens steadily accumulated through decades of selfless, visionary civic leadership?
If you live in Cullman Alabama, the answer to that question is an absolute ‘yes’.
On the surface, Friday afternoon’s ribbon cutting and dedication at the four-years-in-the-making Connected Playground in the newly renovated Ingle Park on Lessman Street Southwest was a simple thing. It was the opening of new, very nice city park.
Just below the surface, however, lies a decades-long tale of visionary city planning, community-wide commitment (and support of) recreational venues and physical fitness … for literally every citizen.
Ingle Park and the Connected Playground is the culmination of countless small (and big) accomplishments over the years that makes Cullman unlike most any city in the United State with a population of only 15,000 or so people.
Cullman Parks, Recreation and Sports Tourism Director Nathan Anderson summed the visionary tale up perfectly during his short time on the Ingle Park stage Friday afternoon:
“This park is truly amazing. And you know, we are the exception to the norm. This park is an example .. proof … that we do things in Cullman, we do them big, and we do them right!
We have a dream come true today in this park.”

NYC Christmas Tree Lighting
I don't think Sarah and I had any real sense of what we were getting ourselves into here. But for about 2.5 hours we were in a massive crowd, slowly pushing ourselves closer and closer to the front.
We watched it all on a big screen, but we were lucky enough to sneak through a barricade and get some photos of the actual tree.

Amazing Beautiful and Expensive Coromandel Retreat Return Home over $2 Million
Amazing Beautiful and Expensive Coromandel Retreat Return Home over $2 Million
Price: New Home over $2 Million
Region: Auckland/Northland
When the New York-based owners of this Coromandel retreat return home, they leave a little piece of themselves behind. Known as the DNA house, this build features a series of bifolding perforated metal screens which serve to filter light and provide an element of privacy. The apparently random perforations are in fact based on the coded patterns of the family’s DNA, bringing a truly unique touch to the home. The screens are also reminiscent of Manhattan’s iconic skyscrapers. Hovering above the site, the house appears to defy gravity. It opens to the north for sun and idyllic views. The lower level contains two bedrooms, each with a bathroom. Open-air soaking can be enjoyed from the comfort of a freestanding tub. Timber-lined walls provide warmth, softness and a feeling of enclosure. A floor hatch with rope ladder provides a direct and energetic connection between the levels, or head up to the living zone via suspended timber stairs. Open-plan living is sheltered thanks to generous roof overhangs over the expansive decks. The level of craftsmanship so impressed the judges, the home won the Craftsmanship National title, as well as a Special Award, awarded at the judges' discretion for having such a wonderful DNA story attached to it.

Abandoned Springfield Hospital Center 2 - Running into other people
So I had just walked up the steps to the second floor when some other people I didn't know entered the first floor. I heard them and ducked into a closet. It turned out just to be some old guy and his two grandkids, but it still scared me. Also, I didn't want to reveal my presence to them because I knew it would have scared them.
There are a fair number of urban explorers like myself (though I'm one of the very few who explores solo), and it's not uncommon for us to bump into each other. It's always scary because you never know if the other person is crazy and/or armed. The thought of them being security guards or police is also scary.
Living in Virginia: Slow Train
This special explores the relationship between the railroad and residents of the Shenandoah Valley in the twentieth century, with a few flashbacks to the nineteenth century. Residents and railroad employees describe their deep connection with and daily dependence upon the railroad as it connected mountain communities to the Shenandoah Valley. For the rural resident, the railroad became a friend that brought communication, commerce and transportation. Personal experiences, archival documents, film and video, slides, photographs, posters, and artifacts chronicle the history of railroad development in Winchester, Harrisonburg, Staunton, Charlottesville, Lexington, Clifton Forge, Elkton, Luray and Swoope.

New York City Food Tour : HUGE Pastrami Sandwich at Katz’s Deli and The Halal Guys!
Join me on this delicious New York City food tour!
►Check out my NYC food guide:
►Get a t-shirt here:
New York City is an incredible food city because of the diversity of the food available. On this New York City food tour we started off the day by going to one of the most famous restaurants in NYC, Katz's Delicatessen to eat pastrami. Next, we ate at a restaurants in New York City Chinatown called Spicy Village for an amazing pan of “Spicy Big Tray Chicken,” and for dinner I had chicken over rice from The Halal Guys, one of the most popular New York City street foods.
1:21 Katz's Delicatessen - There are few places in New York City for food as famous as Katz's Delicatessen, an absolute legendary deli in the city. Although it’s well overpriced, because it’s such a heritage NYC institution, it’s one of the must eat restaurants in the city. I arrived early in the morning, hoping to beat the crowds, which I did (go for breakfast if you want to avoid lines). After a little contemplation, I decided to go for the reuben with pastrami and a half of corned beef. The corned beef was alright, but the reuben with pastrami was incredible. Total price - $48.56
13:32 Spicy Village - Next up on this New York City food tour my wife and I walked around New York City Chinatown and eventually found our way over to a restaurant called Spicy Village (thanks to Monty for this recommendation). The one dish I mainly wanted to eat at Spicy Village was the Spicy big tray chicken, a pan of fried chicken parts and noodles in a spicy and mouth numbing broth. It was everything I had hoped for and more, and it was one of the best foods I ate in New York City! Total price - $22 - But along with the spicy big tray chicken we had an extra dish as well.
18:32 Times Square - One of the busiest and most recognized squares in the world is Times Square in New York City. So in the afternoon, happy and full of Spicy Village and Katz’s Deli, we walked over to Times Square to enjoy the people watching and the ridiculous amount of lights and action.
20:19 The Halal Guys - While walking through Times Square I remembered that one of the most popular New York City street food stalls wasn’t too far away. So we walked over to The Halal Guys, and I ordered chicken over rice. The chicken over rice itself is prepared pretty plain, but the flavor in The Halal Guys is all in the white and red sauce, both of which are incredibly flavorful and delicious. It was my first time to eat at The Halal Guys, and I’m pretty happy I did. Chicken over rice - $7
It was a great first full day in New York City with some incredibly delicious food. Probably my favorite dish of the day was the spicy big tray chicken from Spicy Village, but all the food was so food.

Living in Virginia: Route 11
Arising from the dust of Indian ponies, wagon wheels, and SUVs, Route 11 is more than just a highway. Route 11 carries a story that predates the arrival of European settlers. Once called The Indian Trail and The Wagon Road, early settlers followed the Indian path as they forged their way into the valley. This presentation features interviews with tourists, entrepreneurs, and historians about life along the single-lane roadway and also visits historic sites, institutions of higher learning, and communities by the side of the historic road.
