Taste & Tribute San Francisco 2010
The 10th Annual Taste & Tribute San Francisco 2010
~ A benefit dinner for the Tibetan Aid Project ~
On Friday, November 19th, 220 guests joined us at the Four Seasons Hotel, San Francisco for an evening of fine dining, camaraderie, and shared commitment to a project that has supported the free distribution of nearly 3 million traditional texts -- an unprecedented effort to rebuild and preserve Tibetan culture. Twenty-two celebrated chefs worked in pairs to prepare exquisite four-course tableside creations. This year we were pleased to offer a unique vegetarian option created by acclaimed chef James Syhabout. Carefully selected fine wines accompanied each course. Live and silent auctions offered the chance to bid on unique getaways, Tibetan art, and other one-of-a-kind items. All proceeds support the distribution of texts at the upcoming World Peace Ceremony in Bodh Gaya, India, February 2011.
San Francisco Chinatown with Martin Yan | 100 Days: Drinks, Dishes, & Destinations | KQED
San Francisco’s Chinatown is home to barbeque pork, steamed bao, dragon beard candy, and enough dim sum to fill the table. There’s no one better than local celebrity chef Martin Yan to show Leslie Sbrocco around and discover hidden gems tucked in these busy streets. These two are quite the duo singing and laughing their way through the labyrinth of shops and eateries. But she couldn’t leave the enclave without a lesson in tea and a visit to famed Chef George Chen’s elegant Shanghai Retreat.
Episode 102: Chinatown, San Francisco, California
About The Series:
Pack your bags and join Leslie Sbrocco, beloved host of Check Please! for 100 days of cultural and culinary adventures around the globe.

Urban Halibut Fishing!! - San Francisco, California
Changing it up from the usual ocean Rockfish, Surf Perch, Striper and Salmon videos. Met up today with Zico, Bay and Beyond Fishing, to explore my home town of San Francisco. Fished all new waters to me and had a great time. There is so much water to fish in the bays and lots to explore and learn. Check out your city too (if you have Bays or other water ways) with Google Maps and see what you can find! Should I go out for another Urban fishing trip? LMK in the comments!

Jane Zhang 张靓颖《Feel the USA》(爱乐之程) documentary - tidbit from ep. 4: Jane meets George Chen chef
Jane Zhang 张靓颖《Feel the USA》(爱乐之程) documentary - tidbit from ep. 4: The secret recipe of the Dongpo's braised pork that meets the sea cucumber
Jane visits the Eight Tables restaurant of Chen family to talk about Chinese flavors and let the world know about Chinese culture.
Eight Tables Restaurant is located in 8 Kenneth Rexroth Pl, San Francisco, CA 94133, US.
The chef and entrepreneur George Chen, owner of Eight Tables, listed in the Time collection The World's Greatest Places 2018, wrote on Instagram: Jane Zhang! Hottest Superstar Singer in China and beyond...hanging with the Eight Tables team and Cold Drinks too. Her first love...Food! She’s super-nice!
Internationally, this documentary, directed by Zhesi Wang and commissioned by the government tourism agency BRAND USA is called Feel the USA.
Watch the episode at
#JaneZhang #张靓颖 starts the Journey of Love and Music #爱乐之程 , a rich, limited-time exploration tour that, from the point of view of the famous singer, shows the experiences with the cities, the music, the cultures and the food of the places where she traveling. A pleasant and exciting experience that follows the rhythm of love.

Brand USA recruits Chinese pop star to bring back tourists
(Reuters) - Chinese pop star Jane Zhang will front Brand USA’s biggest ever campaign on the Weibo social network next month as the part-public body strives to turn around a drop in Chinese tourists during an increasingly acrimonious trade war.
Mandopop star Zhang, who is nicknamed the “Dolphin Princess” for her high vocal register, has been filming in Las Vegas, New York and San Francisco for the campaign, set to be called “Feel the USA”, the organization told Reuters.
Brand USA, which markets the United States as a travel destination, hopes the move will lead some of her 42 million Weibo followers to visit after a year marked by falling Chinese tourist numbers that has alarmed hoteliers and retailers.
“(It is) the biggest consumer initiative we’ve had with Sina Weibo since we began working together five years ago,” marketing chief Tom Garzilli said in a statement.
Brand USA declined to say how much they were investing in the campaign, but the most recent numbers show Zhang’s task is daunting.
After growing 16% or more annually in recent years, Chinese arrivals to the United States fell 6% in 2018 and another 3% in the first six months of this year as changes in visa policy, government warnings on gun violence and the trade conflict discouraged travelers.
San Francisco Travel, one of the industry-funded bodies involved in the campaign, says U.S. firms and agencies are working harder to understand how to target China’s increasingly prosperous middle class.
It will spend about 10% to 15% more on marketing the city’s attractions like the Golden Gate Bridge in China this year, marketing chief Howard Pickett said.

We’re looking for the most mind-blowing, mouth-watering tacos our $5 can buy! Join host Nicole Wilhelm as she takes us to find the most delicious tacos our 500 pennies can buy. We’re going to a local gem that will tingle your taste buds. La Casita in Oakland is serving up authentic Mexican cuisine, featuring some of the best tacos in town and we’ll show you why. That is, after all, why Thrillist is your go-to for all food recommendations. You know the rules: We’ve only got $5, so we need to make every penny count... and we’ve definitely got you covered.
Thrillist is bringing back its popular cheap-eats show, but bigger and better than ever with three new hosts. Every week, we’ll explore all the best places to eat (that actually taste good) for under $5, and not a penny more. This season, we’re taking it beyond just New York City and traveling to Washington, DC and the San Francisco Bay Area to show you where to get the best bang for your buck. So if you need a break from the expensive, from the chains, or you’re just looking for new places to try in your city, this is the show for you. Welcome to “5 Buck Lunch.”
Nicole Wilhelm was born, raised, and still lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. A food-obsessor and serial entrepreneur, she works alongside her husband as the co-founder of a multi-million dollar real estate business. Whenever she gets a chance, she still loves to play like she’s a tourist and explore the city’s ever-changing hoods. You may find her in Japantown at Ramen Yamadaya slurping up some of the best ramen in the city or eating cornbread out of a cast-iron skillet at the little restaurant that could, the Brown Sugar Kitchen.

My 28 photographs at Cheung Hing Restaurant in South San Francisco
Don't forget to hit the CC button to display the text... I wanted to make available some original prints so that folks could easily come and view what I consider to be very good black and white photographs printed from film. As I state in a couple of my videos I have photographs that I printed in the 1970s that have been on the wall every day and they look as good as the day I printed them, and these prints at Cheung Hing Restaurant will also stand the test of time.
This is a permanent display which will remain on the walls here as long as the restaurant is in business, and although I may replace some of the images for new ones the Ansel Adams print will remain as the standard by which all the others can be compared.
If you are ever in the San Francisco Bay Area please come to 333 Grand Ave. in South San Francisco (it’s only minutes away from the City) and see these photographs for yourself. Real fiber based silver gelatin prints are becoming more and more rare as digital printing begins to dominate the production of “photographs.” The prints on the walls are well lit, even at night, and they are all printed onto sheets of 20” x 24” paper (mostly Ilford Classic Multigrade - a couple are printed on Foma paper).
BTW – I have been eating at Cheung Hing for years now and I can attest to their fine offerings. I, personally, like the traditional selections that I enjoyed in San Francisco’s Chinatown of the 1950s and 60s (Chow mein, won ton, chow fun, rice soup and the Chinese donuts).
