Vasa and ABBA Museum, Stockholm - Sweden 4K Travel Channel
A highlight for Stockholm visitors is a visit to the Vasa Museum. On the evening of the first conference day in Stockholm, our hosts did not want to miss the chance to show us this impressive ship. Afterward, they had planned a visit to the ABBA Museum, which is just 500 m away.
We take the tram S7 (direction Waldemarsudde) to the Nordiska Museet (Nordic Museum) on the island of Djurgarden. The huge renaissance building houses objects of the history of civilization and from ethnic groups in the north.
But, we pass the building and walk straight to the Vasa Museum lying behind it.
The modern building opened in 1990. The 34 m high hall houses the entire Vasa. On several levels, you can get good insights into almost every detail of the ship. Different objects from those time and pictures of the rescue of the ship round off the exhibition.
The Vasa is a Swedish galleon and was one of the largest and the most powerfully armed warships of that time.
In 1625, she was built in Sweden on orders of the King Gustav II Adolf.
It was the time of the 30-year war when Protestants and Roman Catholics fought each other. Lutheran Sweden wanted to run up the flag against the Catholic Poland to ensure the import of hemp for ropes from the Baltics. But personal reasons also played a role. King Sigismund III Vasa, known as Sigismund III of Poland, was a cousin of Gustav II Adolfs father Karl IX. Karl IX dispossess Sigismund from the Swedish throne. But Sigismund wanted to get back the throne.
The Vasa had 64 guns on two decks. With that, she would have had almost the same firepower like the Polish fleet. The Vasa was 69 m long, 12 m wide and 52 m high.
But already on the maiden voyage, the Vasa sank after a voyage of 1300 m at the port exit from Stockholm, on August 10th, 1628

Ein Highlight für Stockholm Besucher ist sicherlich ein Besuch im Vasa Museum. Am Abend des ersten Konferenztages in Stockholm haben es sich unsere Gastgeber nicht nehmen lassen uns zu diesem beeindruckenden Schiff zu entführen. Anschließend ist noch ein Besuch im 500 m entfernten ABBA Museum geplant.
Mit der Straßenbahn S7 (Richtung Waldemarsudde ) fahren wir bis zum Nordiska Museet (Nordisches Museum) auf der Insel Djurgarden. Der riesige Renaissancebau beherbergt Gegenstände zur Kulturgeschichte und über Volksgruppen im Norden.
Wir lassen das Gebäude aber links liegen und gehen zum dahinter liegenden Vasa Museum.
Das moderne Gebäude wurde 1990 eröffnet. Die 34 m hohe Halle beherbergt die komplette Vasa.
Auf mehreren Ebenen kann man sehr gute Einblicke in nahezu jedes Detail des Schiffes bekommen. Verschiedene Gegenstände aus jener Zeit und Bilder von der Bergung des Schiffes runden die Ausstellung ab.
Die Vasa ist eine schwedische Galeone und war eines der größten und am schwersten bewaffneten Kriegsschiffe jener Zeit.
Sie wurde im Auftrag von König Gustav II. Adolf von Schweden 1625 gebaut. Es war die Zeit des 30-jährigen Krieges, als Protestanten und Katholiken sich gegenseitig bekämpften. Das lutherische Schweden wollte gegenüber dem katholischen Polen Flagge zeigen, um den Import von Hanf aus dem Baltikum für Schiffstaue zu gewährleisten. Daneben spielten auch persönliche Gründe eine Rolle. König Sigismund III. Wasa, auch bekannt als König von Polen, war ein Vetter von Gustav II Adolfs Vater Karl IX. Karl IX verdrängte Sigismund vom schwedischen Thron, den dieser wiederhaben wollte.
Die Vasa war mit 64 Kanonen auf zwei Decks bestückt. Damit hätte sie fast die gleiche Feuerkraft der polnische Flotte gehabt. Sie war 69 m lang und 12 m breit. Die Höhe betrug 52 m.
Doch bereits bei der Jungfernfahrt, am 10. August 1628 sank die Vasa nach 1300 m Fahrtstrecke am Hafenausgang von Stockholm.

ABBA The Museum ist als Dauerausstellung in der „Swedish Music Hall of Fame“ auf der Insel Djurgården zu sehen , die nur einen zügigen Spaziergang oder eine kurze Fahrt mit Bus oder Straßenbahn vom Zentrum der Stadt entfernt ist. Das Museum liegt zwischen dem Vergnügungspark Gröna Lund und der Galerie Liljevalchs und ist nur 5 Minuten zu Fuß vom Freilichtmuseum Skansen und dem berühmten Vasa Museum entfernt.
Warum wurde das neue Museum auf einer Insel in Stockholm errichtet? Nun, weil es die Band so wollte, und wer kann ABBA schon etwas abschlagen? Außerdem ist Stockholm der Ort, an dem die Band ihre ersten Erfolge hatte und wo die meisten ihrer Hits aufgenommen wurden.
Wie ist das Museum konzipiert?
Die Grundsteine von ABBA The Museum bilden die Exponate der ABBAWORLD Wanderausstellung, die zwischen 2009 und 2011 in Budapest London, Prag, Melbourne und Sydney zu sehen war. Es teilt sich die Räumlichkeiten mit der The Swedish Music hall of Fame of Swedish popular music.
Im ABBA The Museum werden die Bühnenkleider, Artifakte, Konzertfotografien, Interviews etc. in einem modernen, interaktiven Kontext gezeigt. Wenn du ein Ticket kaufst, erhältst du eine ID, die eine Seite auf der Webseite des Museums generiert. Sobald du das Museum betreten hast, kannst du mit Hologrammen von ABBA singen und tanzen, dir in einer speziellen Kabine ein digitales Bühnenkostüm (wir empfehlen Anni-Frids berühmtes Tiger-Outfit oder Agnetas Katzentunika) auf den Körper projizieren lassen und das Bild aufzeichnen, indem du dein Ticket einscannst. Danach kannst du die Fotos und Videos deines Besuchs auf Facebook und anderen sozialen Medien einstellen. Die Aufzeichnungen werden nach 30 Tagen von der Seite gelöscht.
Fast wird ein Traum wahr
Nicht nur waschechte ABBA-Fans reden und träumen davon, dass ABBA wieder zusammen kommen und gemeinsame Aufritte bestreiten. Halbwegs ist dieser Traum Wirklichkeit geworden: in Form von Silikon-Figuren in Lebensgröße stehen die berüchtigten Vier nun im Museum. Einer der besten Figurenhersteller Göran Lundström hat fast ein Jahr lang an der Herstellung gearbeitet. Die ABBA-Mitglieder waren selbst äußerst aktiv an der Gestaltung ihrer Ebenbilder beteiligt. Man hat von allen vier Mitgliedern detaillierte Maße genommen, um ihr damaliges Aussehen so gut wie möglich nachzubilden. Nun stehen sie da, für ewig vereint und for ever young.
