Between ticket prices and concessions, movie theaters are expensive. But movie theater chains like AMC and Regal only keep around 50% of the revenue from ticket sales each year. But theaters are able to keep over 80% of concessions revenue as profit. So most theaters are designed to get you to spend money on food. And it works, AMC reports that more than 71% of attendees spend money on concessions.

Screech Owl Info:
Identifying Marks: Wingspan 21 inches; length 8.5 inches. This is the only small eastern owl with ear tufts. The surface of the upper wings is marked with white spots. This owl comes in different colors, ranging from red to gray.
Habitat: Forests and woodlands across the eastern half of the U.S. Also found in wooded cities and suburbs. Both red and gray screech-owls can be seen in northern Illinois.
Diet: This raptor that will consume whatever prey is readily available including moths, beetles, earthworms, cicadas, crayfish, spiders, lizards, mice, rats, bats, chipmunks, toads, doves, jays, robins, and sparrows.
Barred Owl Info:
Identifying Marks: Wingspan 38-50 inches; length 16-24 inches. Large, dark-eyed, gray-brown owl with a barred chest and striped belly. Lacks horns or feather tufts on its head, unlike the somewhat larger great horned owl.
Habitat: Year-round residents in mature woods ranging from lowland swamps and bottomlands to upland forests. Found throughout the eastern United States including all of Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana.
Diet: Mice, chipmunks, voles, shrews, insects, snakes, lizards, frogs, toads, birds, and even an occasional fish.
Stillman Nature Center is an 80 acre non-profit nature center which serves the public. We are always open to drop-in visitors on Sundays from 9:00AM - 4:00PM. You can find us on Penny Road in S. Barrington, between Bartlett and Algonquin Roads. During the week we are available to groups by reservation. You can visit the Center or we can bring our raptors to your meeting place.
