A Soldier has fallen
He will not be forgotten
His spirit dwells in those
Whose lives he touched
He has lead us
He has taught us
He has shown us the way
He gave us all of himself
Because he was made that way
He gave birth to an idea
That will never go away
He did this all
To save us some day
As all heroes...

Julianna visits Fredericksburg, TX! :: Vacation Day 3 :: March 15, 2013
We slept in this morning and decided to take a trip to Fredericksburg, TX. Fredericksburg is about an hour and 45 minutes from Garner State park and the drive there from Garner is BEAUTIFUL! You literally drive through the rolling hills of Texas. Once in Fredericksburg we had lunch, enjoyed some shopping on Main St (where Miss J announced that she needed a CUTE outfit) and then spent the rest of the afternoon visiting three vineyards : Becker, Pedernales Cellars and Grape Creek. Unfortunately, our camera battery died before we arrived back to Garner State Park and all you missed was us relaxing, going for a bike ride during sunset, roasting more marshmallows and gazing at the stars. It was another great day on our spring break trip!

LYRICS Hotel California - Eagles
On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself
'This could be heaven or this could be Hell'
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say
Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year (any time of year) you can find it here
Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes Bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget
So I called up the Captain
Please bring me my wine'
He said, 'we haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty-nine'
And still those voices are calling from far away
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say
Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face
They livin' it up at the Hotel California
What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise), bring your alibis
Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said, we are all just prisoners here, of our own device
And in the master's chambers
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives
But they just can't kill the beast
Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back to the place I was before
Relax, said the night man

But you can never leave!

Barbara Hudson Powers Memorial Biography Pictures
BARBARA HUDSON
February 2, 1921~January 16, 2014
Barbara Hudson left her beloved Conejo Valley on Thursday morning. She passed away after a period of decline, but she never stopped wanting to be a part of all that she loved so much.
Barbara moved to Thousand Oaks in 1959. She became a member of the founding faculty of California Lutheran University in 1961 and taught speech and drama there until 1975.
She was born in St. James, Minnesota on a cold winter's day, and then moved with her family to a grapefruit ranch in Brownsville, Texas. When she was 8, the beginning of the Great Depression sent them back home to Iowa. Her family moved from Knoxville, to Anamosa, to Algona. Eventually, at Fort Dodge High School, she became the Iowa State Debate Champion at 14 and graduated at 16. She attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, and received her B.A. from the University of Iowa in 1942. She was the only girl in her Civil Air Defense class and got her pilot's license before The War. She worked at WHO Radio in Des Moines where she wrote and hosted two shows. It was at the radio station that she was recruited to be in the very first Officers' Class of the U.S. Marine Corps Women's Reserve and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. She served at Cherry Point, NC, and the San Diego Naval Base. The end of the war found her in Hollywood, CA.
Barbara continued her education at the University of Southern California, receiving her Master's Degree in Theater and starred in many mainstage productions of the drama department under the direction of William DeMille, most notably as Joan of Arc in Maxwell Anderson's Joan of Lorraine.
Barbara became the Director of Youth Ministries at the First Presbyterian church of Hollywood under her mentor, Dr. Henrietta C. Mears. (Barbara's biography of Dr. Mears was published in 1958.) Barbara married J.W. Bill Powers in 1946 and together they worked for Great Commission Films that produced the first movies for Billy Graham's association. For five years she produced and directed a major Memorial Day pageant at the Forest Home Christian Conference Center. She also appeared on TV in popular dramatic series.
After moving to Thousand Oaks, Barbara became active in the Conejo Players, acting in and directing more than a few shows. Her touring drama group at CLU, The King's Players, traveled and performed all over the southwest. In 1967, she wrote, produced, and directed a pageant for the 450th anniversary of The Reformatio; it broke all attendance records at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. She was also a prolific contributor to the Editorial page of the Conejo News: News Chronicle: Ventura County Star.
At the age of 62, she wrote a series of dramatic monologues based on women of the Bible. For the next 25 years, she performed her program at churches, schools, prisons, and conferences throughout California, across the U.S., in Canada, Europe, Israel, and served as a missionary for Calvary Community Church in Westlake Village. This one-woman dramatic presentation captured the hearts of her audiences and was her most satisfying and important accomplishment. Above all, Barbara desired to serve and glorify her savior, Jesus Christ.
Barbara is survived by her two daughters, Jean Powers Cross, son-in-law, Dan Cross, and Cathy Colleen Powers; her most beloved grandsons: Ben Hudson Kallas; Matthew Cross and his wife, Jeannie Miller Cross; and Steven Cross; also, her twin great-granddaughters, Matt and Jeannie's Maggie Lou Cross and Phoebe Jane Cross, to whom the torch has been passed.

Commerce was named the Bois d'Arc Capital of Texas” (pronounced bow-dark) by the Texas Legislature because of its location in the geographic center of the indigenous range of the bois d'arc tree. The second largest bois d'arc tree in Texas, Big Max, recognized by the National Forests Famous and Historic Trees, is located within the city limits. Held every September, the annual Bois d'Arc Bash pays homage to the native trees which played a vital part in the frontier days, providing foundations, fences and weapons of the Native Americans. The Bash celebrates with arts & crafts vendors, food, parade, kids' game area, pageant, wine, musical entertainment, 5K run, and car & truck show.

Today we explore Albuquerque, New Mexico. Being a Breaking Bad fan I started my day by visiting some of the show's locations, including Twister's also known as Los Pollos Hermanos, Walter Whites house, the Car Wash, and Hank's home. Then I went to Old Town, had lunch at the oldest house Church Street Cafe. Then I visited the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History, and finally took a ride on the Sandia Peak Tramway.

H1N1 Prompts Modifying Kissing Of The Torah
On this Jewish New year a centuries old tradition is adjusting for the H1N1 virus.
There is a custom that the Torah, when it is walked around, removed from the arc that people kiss the Torah. Someone asked me if that's sanitary, I said, well if you have a problem with it, you can wave at the torah, I think the Torah will understand, said Rabbi Moshe Waldoks at the Temple Beth Zion in Brookline, Mass.
Beth Zion Temple in is recommending hand sanitizer and dropping the handshake, reports CBS News correspondent Hari Sreenivasan.
I'm proposing a pleasant Buddhist bow which acknowledges the person in front of you or the good old fashioned Obama fist bump, Waldoks said.
These are just some examples of the changes taking place in religious services this year. The CDC estimates there have been more than a million cases of H1N1 across all 50 states. Twenty-one states have already seen widespread outbreaks.
In Allen, Texas, at St. Jude's they are no longer sharing wine from the same chalice, one of the centerpieces of any Catholic service. The handshake that signals a sign of peace is replaced with a bow and a smile, and after every mass, each pew gets wiped down.
At first when we asked them not to shake hands anymore, they all looked at each other said, 'What do I do?' said Robert Halladay. But they all did it because they understand it.
Mosques maybe best positioned to fight the spread of the H1N1 virus because before any Muslim begins their prayers, they are required to wash their hands at least three times.
We believe that God is the creator, said Chernor Sa'ad Jalloh, Imam of the Islamic Cultural Center of New York. If you are standing in front of him, you need to be pure, you need to be clean.
At Manhattan's largest mosque, worshippers are celebrating the end of their holy month of Ramadan this weekend and consider their cleansing rituals as a blessing. Some see their mosque as a safe haven even from the flu.
I feel safer here inside than outside, said Iftikhar Ahmad, a congregant. I feel safer shaking hands here with you rather than going out at a party and shaking hands there with a person.
Regardless of faith, the CDC says if you have any flu like symptoms is best to avoid large gatherings altogether

Commerce is a city in Hunt County, Texas, United States, situated on the eastern edge of North Texas, in the heart of the Texas Blackland Prairies, and the far northeastern part of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. The town is 66 miles (106 km) northeast of Dallas and 45 miles (72 km) south of the Texas/Oklahoma border. Commerce is the second largest city in Hunt County, with a population of 8,078 at the 2010 census[4] and an estimated 9,091 in 2016.[5] The city is home to Texas A&M University–Commerce, a four-year university of over 12,000 students that has been in the town since 1894. Commerce is one of the smallest college towns in Texas.
The town of Commerce was formed when two merchants named William Jernigan and Josiah Jackson established a trading post and mercantile store where the present-day downtown area is. The rural area just to the northeast was an open prairie originally known as Cow Hill. The town was established in 1872 and named Commerce due to the thriving economic activity among the cotton fields and ideal farm and ranch lands between the Middle and South Sulphur rivers on the rich, black gumbo prairie in northeast Hunt County. The town incorporated in 1885. Two years later, a railroad was built through Commerce to transport merchandise from Fort Worth, and nine years later, William L. Mayo, a college educator, moved East Texas Normal College from the northeast Texas town of Cooper to Commerce after the original school in Cooper was destroyed in a fire. Mayo continued as president of the college, now known as Texas A&M University–Commerce, until his death in 1917 and is buried on the campus grounds.
Bois d'Arc Bash 2015
