Nepal - Dolpo, Shey Phoksundo National Park - Trek Options
Dolpo - Shey Phoksundo National Park - Trek Options
In this video we'll outline the main trekking options in the beautiful and less frequently visited Dolpo region of western Nepal.
The region is about 300kn north-west of Kathmandu, Nepal, and almost the entire region is within the very large Shey Phoksundo National Park.
Most treks require a flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara and then on to one of the few landing strips serving the region. Most treks start and finish at the Jupal airstrip in southern, or lower Dolpo. But the airstrip at Jomson to the east can be another entry or departure point.
There are two regions within Dolpo and the National Park and treks tend to focus on one or the other, or an extended trek can cover both:
• Southern, or Lower Dolpo, comprises huge valleys, scattered small villages, beautiful lakes and challenging mountain passes over 5,000m high.
• Northern, or Upper Dolpo, is more arid and remote and the location of ancient gompa or monasteries, icy peaks and more high passes.
Both regions offer a fantastic and physically challenging trekking experience.
The region is culturally Tibetan and people here practice the ancient pre-Buddhist religion of Bon. The valley and mountain scenery throughout the region is spectacular and also a haven for wildlife.
Most treks require 3 or 4 weeks to complete and there are many opportunities to customise a trek route as the region has multiple entry and exit points and established trekking paths.
But there are three main trekking routes in Dolpo:
• The Lower Dolpo circuit starting and ending at Jupal airstrip.
• The Upper Dolpo region via a circuit from Jupal that also includes part of the lower Dolpo circuit
• And The Upper Dolpo region from the starting point of Jupal and ending at Jomson to the north east.
We'll start with a look at the Lower Dolpo circuit.
From the entry point at Jupal airstrip, treks usually head due north along the deep valley to the village of Ringmo and the stunningly beautiful Phoksundo Lake. Phoksundo Lake is a mystical and scenic gem and very significant to local followers of the Bon religion. Treks then continue over high 5,100m passes at Bagar La and Numla to the next major valley and return to Jupal via Tarakot. Allow about 3 weeks for this trek.
The next trek option is to the Upper Dolpo region closer to the border with Tibet and the home of ancient monasteries at Shey Gompa and Saldang. This trek also starts at Jupal and passing northward along the upper reaches of Phoksundo Lake to reach the tiny monastery perched on a hillside at Shey Gompa. Allow 4 weeks for this life-changing trek.
Another option is to start the trek at Jupal and then end at the Jomson airstrip and fly back to Pokhara. This trek follows much the same route we just mentioned for Upper Dolpo but diverts south-eastward to the major valley to Upper Mustang and the airport town of Jomson. This final eastward leg also includes some remote and high mountain passes. Allow 4 weeks for this fantastic trek.
The Dolpo region is a unique and special part of Nepal. Trekking can be strenuous but the rewards from its spectacular scenery, friendly people and Tibetan-influenced culture are worth the effort.

Climbing peak, Chulu west expedition 2020, Annapurna Chulu west expedition 2020, trekking tour 2020
Ascent of mount Chulu West and mount Chulu Central are best made from a base camp in a small valley north of Manang situated off the main trail to Thorong La pass 5416m. Indeed some of the best views of this peak can be had from that pass. North-West Ridge: Go beyond the hut following the yak pastures and walk up a ridge which leads into a hidden valley where it is possible to find a good site for base camp. From this camp , ascend steep scree slopes to a col 4,900 or 16,076 feet), on a subsidiary ridge that leads down from the main ridge. To the north of the col ascend snow slope for 200 meters to the base of a band of rock at an altitude of 5,100 meters and the site for a possible high camp.
Climb the rock band with some difficulty to the north-west shoulder of Chulu west 5450 meters or 17,880 feet, where another camp can be established or alter-native a camp can be placed on a snow plateau above 5,530 meters or 18,143 feet. On the first ascent and several subsequent ascents rope was fixed on the rock band. From the plateau continue up the progressively narrowing ridge to the summit 6,250 meters /20,505 feet. Descend by the some route. Every season Monterosa Treks and expedition organized this expedition.

EVEREST BASE CAMP (source Wikipedia):
Everest Base Camp is either of two base camps on opposite sides of Mount Everest (It could also be any Everest base camp on a given route, but this is less common since the two main routes became standardized). South Base Camp is in Nepal at an altitude of 5,364 metres (17,598 ft), and North Base Camp is in Tibet at 5,150 metres (16,900 ft). These camps are rudimentary campsites on Mount Everest that are used by mountain climbers during their ascent and descent. South Base Camp is used when climbing via the southeast ridge, while North Base Camp is used when climbing via the northeast ridge.
Supplies are shipped to the South Base Camp by sherpas or porters, and with the help of animals, usually yaks. The North Base Camp has vehicle access (at least in the summer months). Climbers typically rest at base camp for several days for acclimatization to reduce the risks and severity of altitude sickness.
KALA PATTHAR (source Wikipedia):
Kala Patthar, meaning 'black rock' in Nepali and Hindi, is a notable landmark located on the south ridge of Pumori in the Nepalese Himalayas above Gorakshep. Although not a proper mountain, with a prominence of only 10 m (33 ft), the ascent of Kala Patthar is very popular with trekkers in the region of Mount Everest since it provides the most accessible closeup view of Everest. Due to the structure of the Everest Massif, its high summit is blocked by Nuptse from much of the surrounding region. The views of Everest, Nuptse and Changtse are spectacular from Kala Patthar and there are glimpses of the northern flank and summit of Lhotse. The world's highest webcam, Mount Everest webcam, is located here.

Mount Everest Expedition 2019 - What went wrong ? On Summit Climb
This video explains my climb up to 8300 meters and the reason of not being able to summit Mt. Everest. #Everestclimb #Mountaineering #Adventure
We started to climb towards summit from Camp 4 at 9:30 in the evening of 15th May. Everything was perfectly going but unfortunately my guide got sick after we climbed for 2 hours and we got back to Camp 4 and slept. Then we planned to climb next night the 16th May but weather started to freakout so we had to sleep another night at Camp 4 and next day we came back to Base Camp. So we slept two nights at Camp 4 and returned to Base Camp.
