Aix en Provence arrival and intro
Arriving at the TGV station of Aix and then there is a convenient shuttle bus that will take you right into town. Or if you're arriving from Marseilles, for example, at the older train station, no problem, it's actually right in town, so you can easily walk from the station into the Aix town center. It's only about four blocks away along Boulevard Victor Hugo, so it's only going to take five minutes to walk from the train station into the center of Aix.
It is worthwhile stopping at the very friendly and efficient Tourist Information Office here for an excellent free map of the city and other brochures. The workers here speak English and can answer your questions, provide sightseeing tips, find accommodations and point you in the right direction. Here you can also get information about hotels, restaurants and shopping areas, and find out if there is any special entertainment scheduled during your visit.
It is always helpful to do some research, especially if you are only in town for a few hours on a day-trip as we are today, with limited time that you don't want to squander by getting lost or going the wrong way. However, while it is good to develop a plan for your visit and locate the various attractions and pedestrian lanes on a map to make sure you find the right neighborhoods, you also want to leave time for the aimless wander, follow your nose and stroll about casually, turning here or there depending on which twist looks good at the moment. The Old Town is small enough you will not get lost for long. This mystery of discovery is always a big part of the travel adventure.

A Walk Around the Beautiful City Of Marseille, France
is the prefecture of the department of Bouches-du-Rhône and region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. It is located on the Mediterranean coast near the mouth of the Rhône. The city covers an area of 93 sq mi. and had a population of 870,018 in 2016. Its metropolitan area, which extends over 1,225 sq mi. is the third-largest in France after those of Paris and Lyon, with a population of 1,831,500 as of 2010.
Known to the ancient Greeks and Romans as Massalia. Marseille was an important European trading centre and remains the main commercial port of the French Republic. Marseille is now France's largest city on the Mediterranean coast and the largest port for commerce, freight and cruise ships. The city was European Capital of Culture in 2013 and European Capital of Sport in 2017; it hosted matches at the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2016. It is home to Aix-Marseille University.
Marseille is the third-largest metropolitan area in France after Paris and Lyon. To the east, starting in the small fishing village of Callelongue on the outskirts of Marseille and stretching as far as Cassis, are the Calanques, a rugged coastal area interspersed with small fjord-like inlets. Farther east still are the Sainte-Baume 3,763 ft. mountain ridge rising from a forest of deciduous trees, the city of Toulon and the French Riviera. To the north of Marseille, beyond the low Garlaban and Etoile mountain ranges, is the 1,011 m 3,317 ft Mont Sainte Victoire. To the west of Marseille is the former artists' colony of l'Estaque; farther west are the Côte Bleue, the Gulf of Lion and the Camargue region in the Rhône delta. The airport lies to the north west of the city at Marignane on the Étang de Berre.
The city's main thoroughfare (the wide boulevard called the Canebière) stretches eastward from the Old Port to the Réformés quarter. Two large forts flank the entrance to the Old Port—Fort Saint-Nicolas on the south side and Fort Saint-Jean on the north. Farther out in the Bay of Marseille is the Frioul archipelago which comprises four islands, one of which, If, is the location of Château d'If, made famous by the Dumas novel The Count of Monte Cristo. The main commercial centre of the city intersects with the Canebière at Rue St Ferréol and the Centre Bourse (one of the city's main shopping malls). The centre of Marseille has several pedestrianised zones, most notably Rue St Ferréol, Cours Julien near the Music Conservatory, the Cours Honoré-d'Estienne-d'Orves off the Old Port and the area around the Hôtel de Ville. To the south east of central Marseille in the 6th arrondissement are the Prefecture and the monumental fountain of Place Castellane, an important bus and metro interchange. To the south west are the hills of the 7th and 8th arrondissements, dominated by the basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde. Marseille's main railway station—Gare de Marseille Saint-Charles—is north of the Centre Bourse in the 1st arrondissement; it is linked by the Boulevard d'Athènes to the Canebière.
A Walk Around The Beautiful Town of Cassis, France
Cassis is a commune situated east of Marseille in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, whose coastline is known in English as the French Riviera, in Southern France. In 2016, it had a population of 7,265.
It is a popular tourist destination, famous for its cliffs and the sheltered inlets called calanques. The wines of Cassis are white and rosé, and not to be confused with crème de cassis, a specialty of Burgundy which takes its name from blackcurrants (cassis), not the commune.
The town is situated on the Mediterranean coast, about 12.4 miles east of Marseille. Cap Canaille 394 metres (1,293 feet), between Cassis and La Ciotat is one of the highest maritime bluffs in Europe, a sailor's landmark for millennia. It is east of Marseille and in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône. One of its main beach, called Bestouan is made cooler by a karstic source.
The site where Cassis now sits was first occupied between 500 and 600 BC by the Ligures, who constructed a fortified habitation at the top of the Baou Redon. These people lived by fishing, hunting, and by farming.
During the Roman times, Cassis was part of the maritime route made by the Emperor Antoninus Pius. It was a small village, established mainly around the Arena and Corton beaches. The principal livelihood was fishing and maritime trade with North Africa and the Middle East. Several archaeological discoveries attest to this.[citation needed]
From the 5th to the 10th century, invasions by foreign tribes led the population to seek refuge in the castrum, a fortified city that, in 1223, became the property of the Seigneurie des Les Baux-de-Provence.
In the fifteenth century, Cassis was ceded to the Counts of Provence, then René of Anjou gave the town to the Bishops of Marseille, who ruled the town until the Revolution of 1789.

The glued 'exciter' the local name in France, it means the water is rich or good. Aix-en-Provence, too, it is well known as the city of fountains that sprayed a cool stream. It is more than that every corner, the different shape of the opening 100 Fountain city, it seems to ssolssol also fun to browse. Past the fountain, he saw people walking down the alley of the unusual attire stood out. It's tradition for everyone to wear specially for the carnival once a year. You can watch the street parade with decorated cars and enjoy the music and dance, which forms a street in the center of Aix-en-Provence Mirabeau early because of phosphoric acid. Pounding excitement while full occupation of road with a look, make-up and costumes are fun indeed, of people, festival participants waiting for something. All the people dress up in traditional carnival and wear distinctive clothing that was followed for a long time. I finally climbed film of the carnival. But from past religious events, festivals lower threshold and now all citizens can participate. By simply wearing unique costumes, visitors can enjoy a new adventure and freedom is what I see. Aix-en-Provence (France) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Aix-en-provence in France.
Hot springs once inspired the Romans to settle in a valley below the Celtic Oppidum that they had just destroyed. However, today’s Aix-En-Provence and its numerous lanes offer far more than simply water.Aix is one of the most beautiful cities in France and its numerous fountains and majestic squares highlight the city’s unique ambience and romantic character. Indeed, more than forty spectacular fountains cool down this ancient town in the hot months of summer when both foreign and French tourists visit the city. Nearly all of its splendid buildings and wonderful avenues date back to the 17th and 18th centuries, the Golden Age of Aix-En-Provence. As a centre of education and fine art this elegant city continues to be a rich source of creative inspiration.

Troublemaker Interview Series - Episode 13: Denis Gankine in Aix-en-Provence, France
We meet you in every city that we travel to, magicians – likeminded souls that we want to portrait as The Troublemakers.
We connected with our beloved Troublemaker Denis Gankine two years ago online, shortly after we had been robbed in Montpellier. He came to our concert at Le Modjo in Aix-en-Provence and instantly connected to our group and fell in love with the music. Since than he has helped us organize shows around Provence and even self-organized a show in his village - Saint-Marc Jaumegarde. We have grown very close to Denis and his wonderful family over the years and have become close friends. Whenever we spend time in the South of France we have nice family meals at his house or go on great adventures in the mountains. Denis we love you and your family.
Our mission with these Troublemaker Lose Your Ties Series is to give each one of you a voice. Life is about exchange and sharing a picture. We believe all of you have a unique and individual connection to The Trouble Notes and therefore we want to digitally bring you a bit closer together, even though you all are spread around the world. We believe we can grow together and help each other overcome troubling moments. This project is the brainchild of our manager Stefanie Tendler, who is responsible for connecting our troubled universe. Since Stef’s main interest has always been cultural and artistic movement, she made Berlin her new home in 2011 and has been involved in numerous projects ever since. She has worked on photo exhibitions, music video shoots, film productions, experimental theatre as well as writing for the transatlantic blog station-station.com. This is how we met and layed the foundation for our relationship. As many of you the Lose Your Ties Theme also resonates with her, as she gave up her old career working in business travel to get a Bachelor of Arts in Publication and Communication and to eventually start her career as a photographer and tour manager for our group. Always attracted by the various forms of art and means of expressing oneself, she chose photography as a her own medium to capture the multi-facetted environments she encounters. She is now also responsible for documenting our tourlife.
