Aloha! Today is day one of my Pride of America Cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line in Hawaii, and the first stop is in Maui!
I have partnered with Valley Isle Excursions and we are going on the stunning Road to Hana Tour. We are treating ourselves with a relaxing road trip to Hana with over 600 turns and over 50 man made one lane bridges.
If you are heading to Maui, I strongly recommend taking this breath taking and scenic tour all through the coast of Maui. I had an amazing time, and our tour guide was so entertaining. I would definitely do it again. Happy Travelling!
Valley Isle Excursions has been providing tours of Maui for almost 20 years and in that time the Aloha we share has only increased. Our tours, led by local guides in our custom cruisers are full of interesting stories that immerse the visitor into the culture of Maui. During this full circle tour we hear stories in their settings, sample the food and touch the plants that made all the difference to the Hawaiian people. During a tour experience the beauty of a rainforest waterfall, amazing coastal cliffs as well as an enchanting beach, all before your picnic lunch in Hana. After lunch, there is so much more to explore including waterfalls, pools, windswept ranch lands and peaceful churches. We provide pickup / dropoff at your hotel or condo and cruise ship too (on-time with no stress)!
Valley Isle Excursions was awarded Tour Operator Of The Year for 2016 by the Hawaii Ecotourism Association .

Hawaii - Driving Maui - Road to Hana in 30min
(5/19/2015)
This video provides a full accounting of driving conditions from the small town of Pa'ia along the the narrow, winding Hana Highway 360 to the southeast side of the island, several miles past Hana. Multitudes of narrow roads, 1 lane bridges, switchback and blind curves make this trek an all day affair as well as a hair raising adventure. Renting a convertible allows you to get the full experience, but be sure to you can manually shift the transmission in low gear for engine braking on those downhill stretches. If you are an overly cautious driver, please remember to pull off when possible to let locals and other faster traffic pass. Please be sure to mind yield signs identifying one-lane traffic zones and 5-7 car limit local courtesy to one-lane crossings.
BE WARNED: There are many hazards along this road besides the road itself, including but not limited to:
- Distracted Tourist Drivers - These drivers are not familiar with the road nor the hazardous driving conditions. They may drive slow, stop unexpectedly and not yield at one-lane crossings as required. Try to be patient with their ignorance.
- Frustrated Locals - Some locals have very little patience for tourist drivers. They tend to drive fast, loose, tailgate and will notify you to get out of their way. I recommend to let them pass as soon as possible and try to forgive with a smile.
- Random Pedestrians - Waterfall enthusiasts, photographers and other random pedestrians may find their way on bridges and in the middle of road. Watch out as they are unpredictable and do not always yield to traffic.
- Vegetation - Trees, grasses, brush and other plants may obstruct your view of opposing yield stops and other hazards. Limbs and other debris may find their way onto the road as the road is typically under a heavy canopy.
- Water and Falling Rocks - I've never come across falling rocks, but as the road is cut into the side of old volcanic rock and it rains a lot, both may find their way on the road.
LASTLY: This road can be a wonderful experience, however please know before you go. Be safe and a kind driver.
Mahalo for viewing. Aloha!

Cruising in Hana Maui - Day 3 of our Maui Westy Adventure
Waking up to a beautiful Hāna sunrise is surreal, especially from the back of a Westy. Day 3 marked the halfway point of our van life week on Maui. We spent it on the east side of Maui swimming at the black sand beaches of Waiʻānapanapa and Hāna Bay, playing on pink sand beach of Kōkī, and hiking through the ʻOheʻo Gulch in Kipahulu. Some say that the drive to Hāna is all about the trip and not the destination, but we would have to disagree. It is gorgeous on this end of the island - and the best part was the lack of a cell signal. Living truly unplugged.
Thank you for watching! We are a family from Hawaiʻi sharing our adventures and the things we love. Please subscribe to follow along our adventures in paradise and around the world!

Sit back and enjoy the sights along the famed Hana Highway without having to navigate the twisting, curving road yourself. An expert driver takes the wheel, while you take in the incredible scenery: lava cliffs, tumbling waterfalls, the rugged northern coastline, and tropical hillsides. You'll visit various sites along the way to 'heavenly Hana,' the wonderfully isolated, unspoiled region between the eastern slopes of Haleakala and the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy lunch on your own at Hana Ranch before heading to the Kipahulu District of Haleakala National Park. There you'll have the chance to photograph the glistening pools formed by several waterfalls cascading down the side of Haleakala. Before heading back to your ship, indulge your taste buds and try some local wine at the Tedeschi Winery. Note: Participants must be at least 6 years of age. This tour is not recommended for those guests who are prone to motion sickness or suffer from back problems, as part of the road traveled is unpaved. You will be given time to purchase your own lunch.
KOKI BEACH | Road to Hana | Adventures in Maui
After coming in on the backside of the road to Hana we stopped at Huli Huli Chicken for a quick lunch before visiting Koki Beach. This is a beautiful beach close to Hana that is a must see if you plan on visiting a beach on this side of Maui. Enjoy!

Hana, Maui, Hawaii
Hana town on Maui is one of the most remote and beautiful places in the Hawaiian Islands. Here we focus on the town itself, the friendly people of Hana, Hawaii, beaches, food, shops and amazing scenery. Unlike so many videos about Hana that only look at the Road to Hana, we show you what happens once you get to Hana itself. This village on the scenic east end of Maui is worth a closer look. You would enjoy spending a few nights here to soak up the scenery, meet the people, treat yourself to excellent foods, and explore the nearby attractions. Maui nō ka ʻoi

► Shaka Guide for Road to Hana:
Best Things to do in Maui
► The Road to Hana! The Road to Hana was our favorite single day in Maui, it was a day absolutely PACKED with adventure! Our two biggest tips for the Road to Hana are to get and early start, and to use the Shaka Guide. When you start early, you'll beat a lot of the traffic and have more of the sites to yourself. Using the Shaka Guide will make sure you don't miss any amazing sites and waterfalls!
► Snorkel with Sea Turtles! There are snorkeling opportunities all around Maui, and the best part is that there are Sea Turtles at most of the spots! Honolua Bay & Black Rock are two places you can drive to and snorkel for free, where we saw 4-5 sea turtles at EACH PLACE! Molokini Crater is the most beautiful place to snorkel on Maui, however you can only get here by boat on an excursion.
► Haleakala at Sunrise! Haleakala at sunrise is one of the most stunning views you can imagine. You are above the clouds and get to see the sun rise over that horizon of clouds! It is an inverted sunrise people... You need a permit for this, which costs $1, but you have to get it at 7am 2 days before you are planning on going. Don't be late because they sell out fast!
► Pride of Maui Excursions. We took the Pride of Maui to Molokini Crater for snorkeling and for their dinner cruise! We had a blast on each trip, and highly recommend these tours. The guides were awesome, the food was great, and we got to experience a side of Maui that we wouldn't have been able to experience otherwise!
► Nakalele Blowhole. This is what it sounds like. There is a hole in the rocky coast North of Lahaina where water periodically shoots out of like a giant blowhole! It is super cool, and pretty incredible how high the water sprays!
► Farmer's Markets! You have to love fresh fruits and vegetables, and Maui has some of the best tropical fruits in the world. Head to a farmer's market (there are many on the island, we went to the one in Lahaina) and sample the local fruits and veggies, and bring some home to enjoy on your trip!
Where to Stay in Kauai
We recommend getting an Airbnb or hotel in the Lahaina area of Maui. We loved that area and felt like we were right in the middle of everything we wanted to see and do in Maui!
If you have any questions, we would love to hear from you in the Comments or on our About Us page. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi, we are Julie & Zach, a couple who sold everything in 2018 and took off an adventure around the world! So far, this journey has taken us in a van ALL ACROSS the United States and Canada, from snorkeling with manatees in Florida to camping in the Grand Canyon to climbing glaciers in Canada, and everything in between! We were both working and going to school while living in Chicago in 2017 and 2018, and to be honest it really wore on us. We were exhausted, unfulfilled, and ready for an adventure. So, we made it happen! We saved up AS MUCH as we could over those 2 years - all homemade meals, no shopping, walk or bike everywhere, etc - and sold almost all of our belongings! With that money, we bought a renovated a van that we have been living in ever since! We started our YouTube channel a few weeks ago and have been loving creating videos! When we started, we were SO SO SO SO bad at it, and to be honest we still kinda suck, but we want to get better! What videos do you want to see? Let us know and we will make it happen!
We believe that travel is truly a life-changing experience, it certainly changed ours! When you get out of your everyday world and experience new cultures, foods, places, people, sights, sounds, and take an adventure, you grow as a person and you become a better version of yourself! You are WAY stronger than you know, and stronger than you give yourself credit for. You have the ability to do anything, so make it happen! BE FOREVER FREE!
