The Modoc War
The Modoc War was one of the most dramatic American Indian wars in U.S. history.
The Modoc War began in November 1872 when the military tried to force a small band of Modoc Indians, led by Captain Jack, to a reservation.
The Modocs took refuge in an ancient lava flow that became their stronghold. Today it is a part of the Lava Beds National Monument.
The Modocs knew the land and used it to their advantage. Twisting lava tubes and hidden caves created the perfect hideout for fifty-five Modoc warriors and their families.
Indian policy was the subject of national debate and many humanitarians sided with the Modocs. Then the Indians attacked a peace commission, resulting in the only U.S. General killed in an Indian conflict. The government cracked down hard, calling for swift punishment.
By the end, the Modocs were fighting off a force of nearly 1,000 men, made up of both military soldiers and civilian volunteers.
Again and again, the small band of Indians overcame incredible odds to protect their way of life. But it could not last. Their world was about to change forever.

Inside Colombia's Temple of Lucifer
Víctor Damián Rozo claims to be the very son of the devil and has built a temple in Colombia dedicated to worshiping Satan. More than ten years ago, Rozo renounced his Catholic religion to give his life to Lucifer, who he considers to be the only true god. Since then, his mission has been to recruit Luciferian parishioners, congregate them in his temple, and link their souls with the devil.
On this episode of 'VICE INTL,' we traveled to Rozo's temple to be initiated in a bombastic ceremony of satanist purification.

More information about the video content bellow:
1. While the British originally established Carolina as one settlement, they divided it in 1729 into North and South Carolina to make governing easier. To this day, surveyors walk through the landscape to figure out exactly where the lines are.
2. South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union, and after striking out on its own the state actually printed its own money and created its own postage stamps. South Carolina was the first state to ratify the Articles of Confederation. The state was later readmitted to the United States on June 25, 1886.
3. On April 12, 1861, the Civil War began at Fort Sumter in South Carolina when Confederate soldiers opened fire on the Union soldiers guarding the sea fort. The conflict that followed has been called the “bloodiest four years in American history.” The fort is now a national monument and popular tourist destination.
4. Columbia is the capital of South Carolina. Named for Christopher Columbus, it is 100 years older than the United States of America. It is known for its beautiful old buildings and its azaleas.
5. Charleston has earned the nickname “The Holy City” because there are more than 400 places of worship representing several denominations across the city. At 297 feet tall, St. Matthew's Lutheran Church is the tallest structure in the city of Charleston. At one point, it was also the tallest structure in the state.
6. South Carolina is home to the world’s hottest chili pepper, Smokin’ Ed’s “Carolina Reaper,” grown by Ed Currie of the PuckerButt Pepper Company. Currie’s peppers are so hot that often people who eat them will spasm and vomit.
7. The South Carolina state flag dates back to 1775 and is full of symbols from the Revolutionary War. The blue background matches the color of the colonial soldiers’ uniforms. The crescent is borrowed from the soldiers’ hats. The palmetto tree represents a successful stand against a British attack. South Carolina is called the Palmetto State, named for the distinctive tree that grows along its coast. Additionally, palmetto trees are historically important because they were used to build Fort Moultrie, the site of the American colonists’ first victory during the Revolutionary War. Reportedly, British cannonballs would just bounce off of the soft Palmetto walls.

Chinese Railroad Workers Memorial
During the 1860's, it's estimated about 1200 Chinese died while building the Transcontinental railroad through the treacherous Sierra Nevadas. 2015 will mark the 150th year since the first Chinese was hired to help finish this monumental task. To commemorate this event, Steven Lee is trying to raise $300,000 to have a monument built to honor these workers.

Louisiana Law system is so different that the Rest of the United States because it maintains the French Style of Law. French King Louis XIV decreed Royal legislation in 1685. If you practice law in Louisiana you must re-certify if you plan on moving to another state. The King of France made it a Law that the Jews could not own Slave! Whether those Jews were [Negro] or Ashkenazi [Germans], the French Monarch prohibited it. Question is, who were the true Jews in 1685, and who were the converts to that Culture? Does the States of Louisiana itself, disregarded the 1784 Louisiana Code Noir which expelled Jews from the Colony?
