The House of the First President of the Philippines - 18th Century Aguinaldo Shrine | VLOG 30
Emilio Aguinaldo was the first and the only official president of the First Philippine Republic (inaugurated in 1899 at Malolos, Bulacan).
In April 1898, when the United States declared war against Spain, they had high hopes that Aguinaldo would grant his troops to its effort against the Spaniards. Hence the U.S. Navy transported Aguinaldo back to the Philippines after being exiled in Hong Kong; Aguinaldo then conceived the probability that the Philippines may perhaps achieve its liberty from Spain therefore he declared the Philippine Independence on June 12, 1898.
The Philippine Declaration of Independence took place in Aguinaldo's ancestral house in Kawit, Cavite which was later on proclaimed as Aguinaldo Shrine. It was donated to the Filipino people in 1963, a year before he passed away.
It exhibits the luxurious life of the late general; the bowling alley depicts that his family belonged to the ruling class of colonial times. The mansion has seven levels with the combination of Hispanic and American Colonial design that was renovated and refurbished in 1920's- a far cry from its humble beginnings as a nipa hut in the 1840's.
The whole place is overflowing with works of art and historical artifacts. It is also a house of many secrets: a hat rack that can be turned around that leads to a passageway; a window concealed as a closet; a secret door to the swimming pool; and a bomb shelter with a secret passage underneath a table.
In a nutshell, you don't have to be a history nerd nor a museum frequenter to appreciate this site. Who knows, you might be the one who uncovers another hidden chamber in this abode.

The Emilio F. Aguinaldo Shrine is a national shrine located in Kawit, Cavite in the Philippines, where the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain was declared on June 12, 1898.[3] To commemorate the event, now known as Araw ng Kalayaan or Independence Day, a national holiday, the Philippine flag is raised here by top government officials on June 12 each year. The house is now a museum.

The Aguinaldo Shrine Comes to Life!
More than one hundred years ago, the Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite, Philippines was a witness to one of the most crucial junctures in Philippine history—the declaration of a free Filipino nation. This national heritage site is a living reminder of the freedom that the Filipino people fought and longed for, and the monument of the successes that the country has achieved since then.
And in celebration of 117 years of Philippine Independence, a spectacular video-mapping show was projected on the Aguinaldo Shrine to retell the history of the Filipino people, from the arrival of Magellan to Philippine shores in 1521 to the liberation of the Filipino people in 1898. The show was on a special run from June 11 to 15, 2015.
The video mapping of the Aguinaldo Shrine is a project of the Philippine Department of Tourism through the initiative of the LGU of Kawit, Cavite and implemented by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) and OptimumShow Philippines, Inc.
The project is also supported by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP).
