The Alamo Mission in San Antonio Texas
The Alamo Mission in San Antonio Texas , commonly called The Alamo and originally known as the Misión San Antonio de Valero, is a historic Spanish mission and fortress compound founded in the 18th century by Roman Catholic missionaries in what is now San Antonio, Texas, United States. It was the site of the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. Today it is a museum in the Alamo Plaza Historic District and a part of the San Antonio Missions World Heritage Site.

Relocating? If you are, you’re probably trying to decide where to live in San Antonio TX. There are great neighborhoods for you to put down roots. While San Antonio is the seventh most populous city in the United States of America… not to mention the second most populous city in the state of Texas, San Antonio still has a small town friendly vibe. San Antonio is home to about 1.3 million people and has enjoyed growth for most of the past decade. San Antonio tops the list of the 10 largest cities in the United States from 2000-2010, and was noted as second for growth from 1990-2000. Situated in south–central part of Texas, San Antonio is just north of the Eagle Ford Shale- the largest national oil discovery in the past 40 years.
San Antonio is Military City USA. Home to Joint Base San Antonio, the military is an active part of the San Antonio economy. San Antonio has many active duty and retired military service members in its community. Many people look for homes near Fort Sam Houston or houses near Randolph Air Force base when they are deciding where to live in San Antonio TX. Homes near Lackland AFB in the far northwest side of San Antonio are also popular.
Commonly referred to as Greater San Antonio, the metropolitan area has a population of just under 2.2 million based on the 2011 U.S. Census estimate, making it the 24th-largest metropolitan area in the United States and third-largest in the state of Texas.
Because of its friendly folks, famous landmarks like the Spanish missions, the Alamo, the River Walk, the Tower of the Americas, SeaWorld and Six Flags Fiesta Texas theme parks, the city is visited by approximately 26 million tourists per year according to the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau. The city is home to the four-time NBA champion San Antonio Spurs and the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the largest in the country. In April, San Antonio comes to a virtual standstill during Fiesta, celebrating with parades and community festivals.
San Antonio has a strong military presence — it is home to Fort Sam Houston, Lackland Air Force Base, Randolph Air Force Base- now commonly referred to as Joint Base San Antonio. Brooks City-Base, with Camp Bullis and Camp Stanley outside the city. Kelly Air Force Base operated out of San Antonio until 2001, when the airfield was transferred over to Lackland AFB and the remaining portions of the base became Port San Antonio, an industrial/business park. San Antonio is home to five Fortune 500 companies and the South Texas Medical Center, the only medical research and care provider in the South Texas region.
There are so many great neighborhoods to choose from when you’re trying to decide where to live in San Antonio TX. A few neighborhoods within close proximity to Ft. Sam are Alamo Heights, Olmos Park, and Terrel Hills. This area is located inside Loop 410 is particularly desirable because it is centrally located to shopping, including Lincoln Heights and the Alamo Quarry Market.

My husband and I have two fur babies, a Beagle named Casey and a Lab Mix named Sandy that keep us entertained. We also enjoy motorcycle riding in the hill country in our spare time.
