Zapata Falls and Alamosa Wildlife Refuge || Colorado
If you are looking for things to do around Great Sand Dunes National Park, Zapata Falls and Alamosa Wildlife Refuge are a couple amazing adventures to check out.
The trip to Zapata Falls was definitely the coldest my feet have been in a while! We had to stop and rest on dry walks on the way up to Zapata Falls.
Zapata Falls may not be the largest falls, but having to hike back through a cave like structure to see it just adds to the adventure!

This secluded 25-foot waterfall sheltered in a rocky crevasse is a sight to behold! Read about it at:
Biking North River Road in Alamosa, Colorado April of 2016
North River Road boasts an early design bike, hike, jog lane that is only on one side of the road. Mount Blanca is the peak most commonly referred in the background. Blanca is the tallest of four 14,000 foot peaks clustered in the background Sangre de Cristo Range. Out of sight on the left is Great Sand Dunes National Park.. The other three 14,000 foot peaks are Ellingwood, Little Bear, and Lindsay. Climbers bag the four in one expedition. In the foreground is one of many national wildlife refuges in the San Luis Valley. Important flyway for geese, ducks, other migrating animals of flight. Lane works well. A simple stripe marks it separate from the motorized roadway. The intersections are primitive, everyone for themselves. No markings except the single stripe. Used by Adams State School jogging team as well as the connecting levee paths. I do not like pedaling facing traffic. At least something is there. I think more modern markings is helpful if installed, like a hatched set of lines instead of a single stripe. Symbols on the path showing it is for non motorized use. The ducks are in a golf course pond by the lane.
