Alaska Travel Adventures: Rainforest Canoe Adventure and Nature Trail in Ketchikan
The adventure begins with a scenic motorcoach tour to a secluded mountain lake, where you will board Indian-style 37-foot, 20 passenger canoes which are fast, stable, and easy to maneuver. Paddle under the direction of an experienced guide, scan the shore for wildlife and learn the unique natural and Indian history of the Ketchikan area. The lake, part of a lush rain forest, is ideal for canoeing and is surrounded by the Tongass, the largest National Forest in the United States.
Stop ashore for a native-style snack including smoked salmon, clam chowder, rolls with wild berry jams and beverages. A knowledgeable guide will lead a short nature walk highlighting the flora and fauna of the rain forest, including a carnivorous plant, the Sundew, which uses tentacles with an adhesive dew to ensnare small insects. Paddle back to the canoe dock and reboard your motorcoach that returns to the cruise ship pier.
This adventure is a rare opportunity to comfortably explore Southeast Alaska in the manner of its original explorers and early culture.

Let's talk about the Tongass
The Tongass National Forest in Southeast Alaska is the largest national forest in the U.S. at roughly 16.7 million acres - that makes it slightly larger than the state of West Virginia.
The Tongass is a temperate rainforest - a place of dramatic beauty - where mountains rise out the sea and reach thousands of feet into the sky, where the lush green forest is home to towering coniferous trees, and where healthy populations of wildlife still roam.
But Southeast Alaska is remote, sparsely populated, and relatively unknown to much of the world. So when reports of the the current political effort to repeal long-standing environmental protection regulations hit the news cycle, they don't make the splash they deserve.
The renewed effort to increase resource extraction in the Tongass is at odds with the reality of the moment we inhabit. We live in a resource-hungry paradigm in an increasingly resource scarce world.
This is where we draw the line. We have to shift our collective relationship with the natural world and the time is now.
If we allow an increase in the amount of logging, road building, and resource extractive industry in the Tongass we are placing ourselves on the wrong side of history and doing a profound disservice to future generations.
This is one of the last truly wild and intact ecosystems on Earth. We have an obligation to protect it.
May we find the courage to live in alignment with the truth.

► Stop 1 - Ketchikan, AK
In Ketchikan, you have to take a trip down Creek Street! This is a beautiful part of town full of awesome tourist shops and restaurants. You may even spot a sea lion or a few otters! After that, check out the salmon run if you are there during the late Summer or Fall!
► Stop 2 - Juneau, AK
In Juneau, by FAR the best excursion is to hike Mendenhall Glacier. We used Above and Beyond Alaska (ABAK) and loved every minute of our tour! We canoed on Mendenhall Lake and then got to trek ON THE ACTUAL GLACIER!

Skagway is home to the White Pass Summit and Yukon Trail train ride! This is an incredible train that takes you up a mountain pass and even into Canada! This is a must-do excursion during your time in Skagway
Hi, we are Julie & Zach, a couple who sold everything in 2018 and took off an adventure around the world! So far, this journey has taken us in a van ALL ACROSS the United States and Canada, from snorkeling with manatees in Florida to camping in the Grand Canyon to climbing glaciers in Canada, and everything in between! We were both working and going to school while living in Chicago in 2017 and 2018, and to be honest it really wore on us. We were exhausted, unfulfilled, and ready for an adventure. So, we made it happen! We saved up AS MUCH as we could over those 2 years - all homemade meals, no shopping, walk or bike everywhere, etc - and sold almost all of our belongings! With that money, we bought a renovated a van that we have been living in ever since! We started our YouTube channel a few weeks ago and have been loving creating videos! When we started, we were SO SO SO SO bad at it, and to be honest we still kinda suck, but we want to get better! What videos do you want to see? What do you want to know? Let us know and we will make it happen!
We believe that travel is truly a life-changing experience, it certainly changed ours! When you get out of your everyday world and experience new cultures, foods, places, people, sights, sounds, and take an adventure, you grow as a person and you become a better version of yourself! You are WAY stronger than you know, and stronger than you give yourself credit for. You have the ability to do anything, so make it happen! BE FOREVER FREE!

Alaska Family Multi-Adventure Tour Video | Backroads
Alaska was made for multisport. Hike on an ice field for the experience of a lifetime. Bike on one of the region's few roads. Kayak along the coast amid volcanoes and glaciers. Move through the landscape quietly and locals may show their faces: eagles, moose, sea otters, bears. Even if they don't, you know they're there, and somehow that's enough.
