Pigeon Forge, a mountain town and vacation area in eastern Tennessee, is the home of Dollywood, country singer Dolly Parton’s Appalachian-themed park consisting of rides, an adjoining water park and a museum of her costumes and memorabilia. The city’s other attractions include country music revues like the Smoky Mountain Opry, dinner theaters such as Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede and outlet malls.
You can step aboard the Titanic, ogle OJ Simpson's white Ford Bronco, ride a 200ft-high Ferris wheel and plunge toward the earth on America's first 'wing coaster' in Pigeon Forge, a sprawling cacophony of excess and traffic burning bright in the shadow of the Great Smoky Mountains. With liquor by the drink available since 2013, the city has also loosened up a bit at night. Pigeon Forge is named in part for the Little Pigeon River, which flows through the action. Its banks were once a roosting spot for passenger pigeons – now extinct. Best known today as the home of Dollywood, Dolly Parton's namesake theme park, the city is packed tight with hotels, restaurants and family-friendly attractions, most of them lining Parkway, the main thoroughfare. Pigeon Forge is just 8 miles from Great Smoky Mountains National Park, but traffic and stoplights can make that 8 miles seem a mighty long way.
The West Fork of the Little Pigeon River flows north from its source high on the slopes of Mount Collins through Sevier County before linking up with the Middle Fork in Sevierville. Pigeon Forge occupies a narrow valley along this river between Sevierville and Gatlinburg. High ridges surround Pigeon Forge on three sides, with Pine Mountain to the west, Shields Mountain to the east, and Cove Mountain to the south. A bend in the Little Pigeon provides the city's northern border with Sevierville, and a narrow gorge cut by the river between Cove Mountain and Shields Mountain acts as the city's boundary with Gatlinburg.

NEW Documentaries 2016 || Alcatraz Prison [Truth] Documentary 2016 HD
Full Documentary 2016 about ALCATRAZ ! FULL and NEW ! ! !
Alcatraz Island is located in the San Francisco Bay, 1.25 miles (2.01 km) offshore from San Francisco, California, United States. The small island was developed with facilities for a lighthouse, a military fortification, a military prison (1868), and a federal prison from 1933 until 1963. Beginning in November 1969, the island was occupied for more than 19 months by a group of aboriginal people from San Francisco who were part of a wave of Native activism across the nation with public protests through the 1970s. In 1972, Alcatraz became a national recreation area and received designation as a National Historic Landmark in 1986.Today, the islands facilities are managed by the National Park Service as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area; it is open to tours. Visitors can reach the island by ferry ride from Pier 33, near Fishermans Wharf, San Francisco. Hornblower Cruises and Events, operating under the name Alcatraz Cruises, is the official ferry provider to and from the island. It is home to the abandoned prison, the site of the oldest operating lighthouse on the West Coast of the United States, early military fortifications, and natural features such as rock pools and a seabird colony (mostly western gulls, cormorants, and egrets). According to a 1971 documentary on the History of Alcatraz, the island measures 1,675 feet (511 m) by 590 feet (180 m) and is 135 feet (41 m) at highest point during mean tide.[6] However, the total area of the island is reported to be 22 acres (8.9 ha).

The Ugly Truth of Wildlife Poaching with Janine Vaccarello from the Alcatraz Museum East
On the podcast today we tackle a sensitive subject: wildlife poaching. We don’t go into detail, but it may be a subject for you or your kids. If it is a sensitive topic, please feel free to skip this episode.
Our guest today is Janine Vaccarello of Alcatraz East, a crime museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where they’ve been working on a new exhibit called ‘Ivory, Tortoise Shell & Fur: The Ugly Truth Of Wildlife Trafficking.’
You might wonder why, if you’re not a hunter, you should be concerned about wildlife poaching. But, as Janine explains, there are reasons to be concerned, especially if you travel and buy souvenirs. Do you know what you’re buying or where it came from?
Janine talks us about her time in South Africa, Cecil the lion, dangers of poaching, and what they’re hoping to accomplish with the new museum exhibit.

MORE ABOUT ALCATRAZ EAST EXHIBIT From capture to trade, there is an international crisis concerning protected species in the wild. Poachers are abusing and killing innocent animals and turning their fur, bones, or shells into products such as purses, medicines, and jewelry. When traveling, tourists are often not aware that these souvenir products are illegally manufactured, and even in the U.S., black bears are being killed for use in Asian medicines.
This exhibit is made possible by the collaborated efforts of the following organizations: Freeland Foundation, International Fund for Animal Welfare, INTERPOL, Kashmir World Foundation, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, WildAid, Wildlife Trust of India, and the Center for Conservation Impact. Illegal wildlife trafficking is a multi-billion dollar a year industry, and has recently been linked to funding various terrorist organizations, threatening national and global security.
This exhibit will explore how endangered species are effected by poaching, and what you can do to help stop the practice.
Other Ways You Can Help- Reduce The Demand! Want a New Pet? Be informed before you buy! Research the type of animal and related laws, and only buy from reputable companies that do not remove protected animals from the wild. Hungry for Exotic Cuisine? No thanks! Take a pass if your delectable dish comes from endangered wildlife and try something else instead. Buying Antiques, Jewelry, Clothing or Souvenirs? Ask questions! Where is it from? How was it made? Just because something is for sale, doesn’t mean it is legal. Be cautious if it is made from an exotic animal. Photo Opportunity? Not this time! It is hard to resist paying to feed or take a photo with a cute exotic animal, but many of them have been taken from their mothers and the wild. Supporting these activities just encourages poachers to remove more animals from the wild. See Something Suspicious? Report it! Contact your local state wildlife agency or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (1-844-FWS-TIPS). Help educate others about the issue & volunteer with organizations that work to combat wildlife trafficking and rescue confiscated or seized wildlife.
