We had a great time on May 5, 2018 at Alex RiverFete in downtown Alexandria, LA. It is ann annual cultural festival full of great food, local arts and crafts and fantastic live music!!! Jason's band, Fall of Isaac, closed the event on the Indie Stage. Great fun!

Other than this officer telling me that I had recorded too much of a federal building and that he needed to confiscate all of my equipment — in this episode I travel to Alexandria LA and meet up first with Wayne of Ugly Mug Marketing (they are hosting the conference that I am speaking at here tomorrow), then Kostas of Opa Greek Taverna, who I interview about the power of vlog style video for small businesses and restaurants, and lastly GK of GK Photography, who I ask about biggest takeaways from uploading over 100 videos. Two cinematic sequences in this puppy - fun for the whole family. Oh we also eat some amazing gumbo and alligator legs.

Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia - 4K
The historic town of Old Town in northern Virginia, just a few miles from Washington DC, was once a frequent social destination for America’s founders. George Washington, whose primary Mount Vernon residence is located roughly a 20 minute drive south of Old Town, owned a townhouse here and was a depositor at a local bank. Old Town was also once a major slave trading hub.

Gadsby's Tavern
Acquired by John Gadsby in the late 18th century, this tavern was frequented by George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, James Madison, James Monroe, and Marquis de Lafayette.
Carlyle House
Completed in 1753, this Georgian manor was home to John Carlyle, a wealthy British merchant, friend of George Washington, and a founder of the city of Alexandria, Virginia.
Bank of Alexandria
In 1792, the Bank of Alexandria was authorized by the General Assembly of Virginia, the legislative body of the commonwealth of Virginia, making it the first financial institution authorized by the state.
George Washington, a frequent visitor to Old Town, was a depositor and stockholder of the bank.
Wise's Tavern
On February 4, 1789, George Washington was unanimously selected president of the United States, receiving all 69 electoral votes. Congress counted the votes and confirmed his victory on April 6th, 1789. And on the morning of April 16, 1789, Washington began the journey from his Mount Vernon home to New York City, then America's capital city. By around noon on April 16, 1789, Washington arrived in Old Town where he sat down for a (very) early dinner with the town's citizens at Wise's Tavern before continuing on his journey to New York where he would be sworn in at Federal Hall.
Washington's Townhouse
Washington used this home when he was in Old Town for business or social reasons and could not make it back to Mount Vernon.
Franklin and Armfield Slave Office
This building once housed the offices of Franklin & Armfield Co., America's largest slave trading firm from 1828 to 1836. Isaac Franklin and John Armfield used this building as a holding pen for enslaved Africans being shipped from Northern Virginia to a life of brutal subjagation in New Orleans, Louisiana or Natchez, Mississippi.

The City will celebrate its 265th and the USA's 238th birthday on Saturday, July 12, from 7-10 p.m. at Oronoco Bay Park. The celebration features music, food, and fun for the entire family. The featured performance of the evening is a concert by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra at 8:30 p.m., culminating with a Grand Fireworks Finale featuring Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture with cannon support by the United States Marine Corps Basic Training School beginning at 9:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, fireworks only will be rescheduled for Sunday, July 13 at 9:30 p.m.

Everything's goin' up in Smoke as the city of Alexandria hosts its 5th annual barbecue festival, Que'in on the Red, March 18 - 19, 2011.
This Memphis Barbecue Network sanctioned festival offers friendly competition in six categories including pork, beef, poultry and sauce.
Teams from across the United States, including Central Louisiana will gather to prove their secret sauces, rubs and grilling techniques have what it takes to be the Grand Champion of the Red.

kalb's mike magnoli had von jennings on their 6 pm broadcast tonight to kinda sorta announce her candidacy for mayor.
you have to stop and wonder though could this be a trick? could ms. jennings be controlled opposition in an attempt to split the black vote to reelect mayor roy?
this could help explain why certain local blogs, websites and media outlets are doing all this fear mongering over the so called levee de-accreditation. are they pretending to criticize the mayor about the levees (as well as cleco) now in order to praise him later this year? will he saved us from the levees become a campaign slogan?
just because right now certain bloggers and news outlets pretend to be fighting with the mayor as well as some with each other -- doesnt mean that they arent secretly working together with the mayor. they have in the past.
besides, no one has explained how a piece of paper filed late or incorrectly will affect the actual levees this spring when all of the heavy snow packs up north begin to melt and drain this way.
doesnt it make sense that if they were really worried about the levees they would be out there working diligently to repair them and not fighting over a piece of paper?
its been nearly a year to the day that it was reported that the administration (mayor roy and his gang) hired his cousin mark gravel with gravel investigation to follow ms. jennings around to get the goods on her supposedly so she would be a blackmailed puppet when the mayor fired her.
wasnt it around the same time that the mayor was investigating ms. jennings that some on the city council suddenly became extremely docile towards the administration?
in june several mysteriously reversed themselves and sustained mayor roy's veto to allow his 100+ million dollar bonded indebtedness sparc wealth transfer scheme go forward.
notice how kalb/mr. magnoli recall the city's private investigator assigned to tail ms. jennings, reporting that documents were made available to kalb -- by the city, newschannel five did not go to air with any of those materials. so kalb admits that they have the private investigator documents -- but are suppressing them! wtf kinda news reporting is that? what other information is kalb suppressing that they arent telling us about?
is kalb really interested in getting to the bottom of this story and reporting it -- or are they more interested in titillating their viewers like a bunch of stupid animals?
