Cidade de Albufeira - Algarve - Portugal

A Cidade de Albufeira, sede do Concelho de Albufeira, situa-se junto ao Oceano Atlântico, no centro da região do Algarve, entre o Sotavento e o Barlavento.
Albufeira é uma das cidades mais antigas do Algarve. A origem da povoação de Albufeira remonta à pré-história e está relacionada com o seu nome. Uma albufeira é uma espécie de lago. No local onde hoje é o centro da cidade, na parte mais baixa, existia um lago enorme que era alimentado pela Ribeira de Albufeira. Com a descida do nível do mar o lago foi secando e a Ribeira de Albufeira com o crescimento da cidade foi canalizada. Assim, a povoação iniciou-se no neolítico, à volta do lago uma vez que este lhe fornecia alimento.
Albufeira foi ocupada pelos romanos que lhe chamaram “Baltum”, e posteriormente pelos árabes que, devido à sua privilegiada posição numa arriba debruçada sobre o mar e a foz da ribeira, lhe chamaram “Al-Buhera”, que significa “Castelo do Mar”. O atual topónimo de Albufeira provém da denominação árabe.
Os árabes instalaram-se no topo do antigo Cerro da Vila e dominaram esta região desde 716 até 1249. Construíram sólidas fortificações defensivas que tornaram Albufeira quase invencível. Consequentemente esta foi uma das praças que os árabes conservaram durante mais tempo em seu poder. A cidade árabe era muito importante, tinha uma próspera agricultura e um ativo comércio com o norte de África.
Após a primeira ocupação cristã, em 1189/1190, Albufeira foi integrada no reino do Algarve com a conquista definitiva pelo rei D. Afonso III, com a ajuda da Ordem Militar de Santiago, em 1249.
A conquista do ocidente árabe pelos cristãos causou uma considerável diminuição da população e interrompeu as relações comerciais com o norte de África. Consequentemente, Albufeira entrou em decadência.
Segue-se a dinamização económica no período dos Descobrimentos (sécs. XV/XVI).
D. Manuel I concedeu-lhe Foral a 20 de Agosto de 1504.
No séc. XVIII, vários sismos, que culminaram com o terramoto de 1755 seguido de maremoto, destruíram Albufeira de forma drástica.
No final do séc. XIX e 1ª metade do séc. XX, surge um grande renascimento devido à abundância de peixe e consequente crescimento da indústria de pesca e da conserva de peixe.
Por volta de 1930, começou a escassear o peixe e a fecharem as fábricas de conserva. Voltou assim a haver um período em que a população desceu para menos de metade.
Na década de 60, o Turismo despertou Albufeira. Consequentemente, a então vila de Albufeira expandiu-se e foi elevada a cidade em 1986.
Atualmente, a cidade encontra-se cheia de recordações dos mais de 500 anos da presença árabe mas também de edifícios modernos. No centro histórico, por entre o pitoresco casario branco, disposto em anfiteatro sobre as praias, predominam ruas estreitas e íngremes.

Albufeira is a city, seat and municipality in the district of Faro, in the southernmost Portuguese region of the Algarve. The municipality population in 2011 was 40,828, in an area of 140.66 square kilometres. The city proper had a population of 13,646 in 2001. It is 250 kilometres (160 mi) from Lisbon, and is within close proximity of Paderne Castle. Lagos is located 30 kilometres (19 mi) to the west, and Faro 45 kilometres (28 mi) to the south-east. A tourist destination (due to its coastal conditions), Albufeira expands to approximately 300,000 residents during the summer and during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, owing to the number of hotels and lodgings in the district, that includes marina facilities, golf courses, restaurants and bars for the annual flood of visitors.

Albufeira befindet sich in der Zentrale der Algarve und ist auch Mittelpunkt neben der Hauptstadt der Algarve, Faro.
Vom Flughafen Faro aus, ist Albufeira gut eine halbe Autostunde entfernt. In Albufeira findet Ihr viele Shopping Möglichkeiten, sowie etliche Ausgehmöglichkeiten, nebenbei habe ich Albufeira auch als Partyhochburg kennengelernt. Die Party und Feiermöglichkeiten, befinden sich meist in der Neustadt, mit Clubs und Bars, sowie etwas weniger Clubs dafür aber deutlich mehr Restaurants und Bars in der Altstadt von Albufeira.
In diesem Video könnt Ihr Aufamhen aus der Altstadt, sowie dem Yachthafen und von den Stränden in Albufeira sehen.
