Family Has Been Sailing Around The World Non-Stop For 9 Years
The Gifford family left their home in Washington in 2008 to sail around the world. They have not stopped since. We met up with them in the summer of 2016 in Noank, Connecticut to learn their story and to see how they all live on a 47-foot sailboat.
Follow the Giffords on their journey.

Family of 5 living on a boat || What do we do all day || What is life like on a boat || A Day ||
Our family of five left Texas suburbia to live and travel on a boat! With no experience. Join us as we figure this out…
We sold the house, the business, and all the furniture. We have sold everything we owned. Minus items to take to the boat and a few boxes of keepsakes.
We said goodbye to all the people we love and the only home the boys have ever known.
We are currently in the Florida Keys. We have a plan..ish… to push off to the Caribbean by spring.
Taking the time to see family during the holidays and finish off some much needed projects in the states before we go aboard.
Thank you for following along. We will post updates every Friday. Please subscribe to keep up to date.

Life Aboard a Slave Ship | History
From approximately 1525 to 1866, 12.5 million Africans were forcibly transported across the Middle Passage to serve as slaves in the New World. Life aboard slave ships was agonizing and dangerous; nearly 2 million slaves would perish on their journey across the Atlantic. #HistoryChannel

Seattle Ferry Ride to Bainbridge Island
Riding the Washington State Ferries from Seattle to Bainbridge Island is one of the most scenic and affordable day excursions. Not only do you get amazing views of the Seattle skyline, but Bainbridge Island is also very pleasant to walk around.
The trip takes just thirty-five minutes. The round-trip fare for adult passengers is just $8.50 (2019). It's a great alternative to a Seattle Harbour Cruise! You can take your vehicle if you wish. However, the town centre on Bainbridge Island is within walking distance of the ferry terminal.
There are two routes operating from Seattle Ferry Terminal to Bremerton and Bainbridge Island. The route from Seattle to Bainbridge Island is the busiest in the Washington State Ferry network with 6.4 million passengers annually.
The Seattle to Bainbridge Island route is operated by the MV Tacoma and the MV Wenatchee. They are both classified as Jumbo Mark II class vessels, the largest in the WSF fleet. Each is capable of carrying up to 2,500 passengers and 202 vehicles at a speed of 18 knots. They are also the second longest double-ended ferries in the world, built between 1997-1999 at Todd Pacific Shipyards in Seattle.
One amenity that I truly enjoy aboard the Washington State Ferries is the on-board galley and cafeteria, which serves up popular Washington State products including:
-Molly Moon's Homemade Ice Cream
-Tim's Cascade Style Chips
-Ivar's Acres of Clams Chowder
-Beecher's Mac and Cheese
-Whidbey Island Ice Cream Bars
Overall, the Washington State Ferries operate 10 routes serving 20 points around Puget Sound and Canada. It is the largest ferry system in the United States and fourth-largest in the world with a fleet of 23 vessels carrying 24 million passengers annually.
Enjoy your Bainbridge Island Day Trip! It is without a doubt one of the most popular day trips from Seattle. The Seattle Ferry Terminal is located at 801 Alaskan Way. Be sure to take advantage of the Seattle Free Waterfront Shuttle service that offers a stop within walking distance of the ferry terminal.

USS Constellation arrives in South Texas
The USS Constellation arrived in the Rio Grande Valley on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015. The aircraft carrier will be scrapped for metal at the Port of Brownsville. It made a 16,000 nautical mile journey from Bremerton, Washingto, around the tip of South America, up the Atlantic Ocean and finally into the Gulf of Mexico. Hundreds lined the shores of the South Padre Island Jetty to see the ship make its final journey.
Maritimo Muster - Roche Harbor, Washington
The rugged and beautiful coastline of Washington State near the USA and Canadian border is a long way from Australia, but over the five days in September, 2014 a group of dedicated boaties aboard their Maritimo cruisers have enjoyed some real Aussie hospitality courtesy of leading US boat brokerage firm Hampton Yacht Group (H.Y.G.)
Maritimo Australia's Sales and Marketing Manager Greg Haines had been in Roche Harbour for the previous week helping organise the 'Maritimo Muster' with H.Y.G's Bill King and said it had been a resounding success.
We had a total of fourteen boats attend with a group of forty plus owners and their guests enjoying each other's company and learning more about their Maritimo vessels. As one of them said to me, 'on a scale of one to ten, the Maritimo Muster has been a fifteen', said Mr Haines.
The boats were based at Roche Harbour and then we cruised on from there.
In addition to the social side of things,we've had workshops on Seakeeper Gyro stabilization, Garmin navigation aids, Water makers, onboard cooking classes and even a session with the United States Coast Guard on customs clearance for owners who wish to cross the border into Canadian waters.
Mr Haines said the experience was both educational and enjoyable with all owners reporting that they knew more about their vessels and had improved their confidence as skippers as a result of their participation.
Maritimo Australia's legendary skipper Ross Willaton also took part in the Muster giving USA skippers plenty of operational advice and tips.
Mr Haines said Maritimo's were enjoying growing popularity in this part of the USA where the colder climate made the Maritimo enclosed flybridge a huge bonus for boaties. In many cases with other marques, boating is restricted to the summer months, but with our enclosed flybridge our owners can go boating all year round.
The crew at Hampton Yacht Group did a fantastic job and from the feedback we received from the owners who took part , this is something that we'll continue to do again and again in this beautiful part of the world.
They may be a long way from Australia, but now, through their Maritimo's, they have an affinity with our country and certainly enjoyed some good old fashioned Aussie hospitality compliments of the H.Y.G team.
The Roche Harbor 'Maritimo Muster' was part of a three week Maritimo promotional exercise by the company that also took in events and meetings in Dubai and the Cannes International Boat Show.
USA: US ORDERS AIRCRAFT CARRIER NIMITZ TO HEAD FOR PERSIAN GULF
English/Nat
Defence Secretary William Cohen on Friday ordered the aircraft carrier U-S-S Nimitz and its escorting warships to skip a planned port call at Singapore to get to the Persian Gulf as quickly as possible.
The hurry-up is linked to U-S warnings to Iran earlier this week not to repeat its cross- border air attacks into southern Iraq.
The Clinton administration told Iran that its raids on Monday - and a belated Iraqi air force response - violated a U-S-enforced no-fly zone and could trigger U-S retaliation.
United States Defence Secretary William Cohen ordered the aircraft carrier U-S-S Nimitz to pass-up Singapore and head straight to the Persian Gulf.
The detour is thought to be a reaction to Iranian raids on Mujahideen bases inside the no-fly zone imposed by the United States and its allies since 1992 over southern Iraq.
The Mujahideen Khalq is one of Iran's main opposition groups.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
My understanding is the Nimitz was scheduled to be deployed to the region. The Nimitz cut short a port visit in Singapore and is underway in due course to the Persian Gulf.
SUPER CAPTION: Mike McCurry, White House spokesman
The Clinton administration told Iran that its raids Monday and a belated Iraqi air force response violated the U-S enforced no-fly zone and could trigger U-S retaliation.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
I wouldn't necessarily connect those two. We've got a very active presence in the region and it is related to our ability to carry out our responsibilities given to us by the international community.
SUPER CAPTION: Mike McCurry, White House spokesman
The restricted zone was created after the 1991 Gulf War to stop Iraqi government forces from crushing rebel groups.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
I'm not aware of any new Iranian violation of the no-fly zone. I can assure you that --tell you that the United States intends to enforce the no-fly zone with respect to Iraq and that Iraq has been made well aware of our determination of that no-fly zone , and we will do so.
SUPER CAPTION: James Rubin, State Department spokesman
At the White House, a National Security Council official said the United States suspects the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein might use the Iranian attacks as an excuse to challenge the no-fly zone and to block U-N weapons inspections.

Alaska Ferry System - Marine Highway Ferry System And Station Bellingham Washington
The Alaska Ferry also known as the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry System services over 30 locations and links the great state of Alaska with the lower 48 states with weekly service to Bellingham Washington.
The the Alaska Ferry arrives each friday morning it is greeted by Bellingham Residents at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal in the city's Fairhaven district. The Alaska Ferry can carry 88 cars and approximately 500 passengers. The ferry is more about transportation than luxury but there is still a cafeteria, and cocktail lounge. The Alaskan Ferries that make overnight trips typically have guest cabins available at an additional charge but in summer months many passengers choose to just pitch a tent on the upper decks or sleep under the stars in a sleeping bag.

US expresses concern on China's installation of missiles in West Philippine Sea
WASHINGTON D.C., United States of America - Serious concern is how United States Secretary of State John Kerry described the latest action of China in the disputed territories in West Philippine Sea. China recently installed surface-to-air missiles in the said area. Kerry added that there should be no acts of militarization in the West Philippine Sea.

The Truth About the Titanic Has Been Revealed
Recent findings reveal the truth that has been buried for over one hundred years. Scientists have debunked the theory that the cause of the Titanic sinking was an iceberg. Why did Titanic sink? What's the real cause of the Titanic crash?
HOW TITANIC SANK
On April 14th, 1912 at 11:40 p.m. RMS Titanic had a terrible accident that led to its ultimate demise 3 hours later. By 2:20 a.m. in the early morning of April 15th, the biggest ship of its time had completely disappeared under the ice-cold surface of the Atlantic Ocean. The Titanic took more than 1,500 lives with it as it sank to its watery grave.
TITANIC MYSTERY
The cause of this horrible disaster leading to so many deaths was an iceberg the ship crashed into. Or so we’ve always been told... But scientists’ most recent findings have debunked this theory. In this video, we’ll tell you the whole truth that has been buried for over one hundred years.
TIMESTAMPS
How Titanic sank 0:08
How Titanic was made 1:00
The real cause of the catastrophe 3:04
The interior of the Titanic 5:10
Another tragic coincidence 6:20
Another criminal negligence: the lifeboats 7:23
Some people also blame Captain Smith 8:25
HOW TITANIC WAS MADE
The Titanic had 4 massive smokestacks. Each of them weighed 60 tons, and they extended 81.5 feet above the deck. Such an impressive height was necessary to avoid covering the passengers in 100 tons of soot blown off daily. The smokestacks were placed at a 30° angle to look even more astonishing and imposing.
No less awe-inspiring was the cost of the ship. Its construction demanded $7,500,000. If we take into account modern exchange rates and inflation, in 2016 they would be paying $166,000,000. Surprisingly, it would turn out cheaper than the production of the world-famous movie Titanic in 1997, which cost $200,000,000!
Criminal negligence, tragic and unfortunate chain of coincidences, fire or ice: whatever it was, it took the lives of hundreds of people and still keeps the minds of scientists busy to this day. What theory about the catastrophe do you believe? Share your opinion in the comments below!
