NORWEGIAN GETAWAY Baltic Cruise - 2017 Day 5 St Petersburg
16 June 2017.
First of two days in St Petersburg, Russia. Norwegian Getaway Baltic Cruise. We booked a two day Grand Tour with Alla Tours.
Today we visited the Yusupov palace, Catherine Palace, the Peterhof Fountain Park and returned to the city via hydrofoil. In the evening, we saw a Russian Folkloric Show in the Getaway Theater, involving local artists from St Petersburg.

I cannot thank you enough for scheduling Lana (Svetlana) to be my guide in St. Petersburg. Her English language skills are outstanding, as is her provision of general information and very specific knowledge about all my art and cultural interests. I have seen such wonderful things, more than I expected. It cannot have been easy to look after an old lady for such an intensive programme but at all times Lana made me feel really well cared for and very secure.

Our guide, Svetlana, exceeded all expectations. Besides being a wealth of knowledge, she was a pleasant and kind young woman. Another important feature was her excellent command of the English language and extensive English vocabulary. She also had a pleasant British accent and a melodious speaking voice which made it easy and enjoyable for us to listen to.

Saint Petersburg (Russian: Санкт-Петербу́рг, tr. Sankt-Peterburg, IPA: [ˈsankt pʲɪtʲɪrˈburk] (About this sound listen)) is Russia's second-largest city after Moscow, with five million inhabitants in 2012. An important Russian port on the Baltic Sea, it has a status of a federal subject (a federal city).
Situated on the Neva River, at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea, it was founded by Tsar Peter the Great on May 27 [O.S. 16] 1703. On 1 September 1914, the name was changed from Saint Petersburg to Petrograd (Russian: Петрогра́д, IPA: [pʲɪtrɐˈgrat]), on 26 January 1924 to Leningrad (Russian: Ленингра́д, IPA: [lʲɪnʲɪnˈgrat]), and on 7 September 1991 back to Saint Petersburg.
