A couple of novice Midwestern MTBer's take on Alpine Ski Hill at Alpine Valley Resort in Elkhorn, WI.
We get lost, tackle a double black diamond section of the trail and end up skipping more than half the trail on accident. :facepalm:
However, this video will give you a pretty good idea of the variety of terrain, features, and views available at Alpine Valley. Located about an hour and a half north of Chicago, and 30 mins from Milwaukee this place features a ski hill and lodge during the winter with an outdoor concert shell playing host to many popular artists and events. There is also about 8.5 miles of singletrack open during the spring/summer/fall that crisscrosses the slopes while ski season is on hiatus. The address for the resort is W2501 Co Rd D, Elkhorn, WI 53121. To get to the trailhead, drive under the big red sign that says Alpine Valley, follow this road until you see a blue sign that says Mountain Bike Trail. This will take you down a gravel maintenance road to a little parking lot with a pat station. It's $2 to ride. The singletrack starts there.

Alpine Valley Skiing Black Diamonds
I went to Alpine Valley Ski hill with my friend and we skied all the black diamonds and terrain parks while we were there. It was a great time, and we were able to hit all of the runs in a couple hours. It was $80 for rental and a lift ticket, which isn't too bad. I would say it was worth every penny.
