Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) Trail Ridge Road - Alpine Visitor Center - Day 4 of 5
Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) Trail Ridge Road - Alpine Visitor Center - Day 4 of 5. Recorded on May 31st 2018. This video shows the The Trail Ridge Road leading up to the Alpine Visitor Center. We share some of the educational displays in the Visitor center. The Alpine Visitor Center is at elevation of 11,796 feet. Also shared some of the Trail Ridge Road Medicine Bow Curve leaving the Alpine Visitor Center.
“Rocky Mountain National Park's Alpine Visitor Center is located at 11,796 feet (3,595 m) above sea level at Fall River Pass, one mile west of the highest point on Trail Ridge Road and four miles east of the Continental Divide at Milner Pass in the U.S. state of Colorado. It is the highest visitor center in the National Park System.[1]
The Alpine Visitor Center includes restrooms, exhibits on the alpine tundra ecosystem, and a gift shop operated by the park's non-profit partner organization, the Rocky Mountain Conservancy. The visitor center opens around Memorial Day and closes around mid-October due to snow and the extreme winter environment. In mid-summer, the visitor center is also usually accessible by Old Fall River Road, a 9-mile dirt road open to one-way, uphill vehicle traffic.
Views from the Alpine Visitor Center include the Mummy Range, the Fall River Valley, and Trail Ridge to the east and the Never Summer and Medicine Bow ranges to the west and north. Hiking opportunities include the 1/4-mile round-trip Alpine Ridge Trail, commonly referred to as Huffer's Hill, and the 8-mile round-trip Ute Trail to Milner Pass. Park Rangers provide park orientation and interpretive programs on the alpine tundra.
Additional gift and food services at Fall River Pass are provided at the concession-operated Trail Ridge Store and Cafe.“

Rocky Mountain Nation Park Snow Removal on Trail Ridge Road
Every year, Rocky Mountain National Park snowplow operators begin plowing Trail Ridge Road in mid April. Crews from the west side of the park and crews from the east side of the park move along the road and eventually meet near the Alpine Visitor Center. This happened yesterday! Trail Ridge Road is the highest continuous paved highway in the United States reaching an elevation of 12,183 feet.
This year, snowplow operators have encountered less snow on the west side of the Continental Divide and average snow pack on the east side. Park plow operators have dealt with days of low to no visibility, wind, drifting snow and icy road conditions
Weather permitting, we are continuing to work toward opening the road on Friday, May 22, but we'll see what the next week brings. Sunshine makes a big difference in helping plow operators tackle the road!
Enjoy the following photos and video taken by park staff on this year's operations to open the road!

Rocky Mountain National Park | Hike Sky Pond | Camp Estes Park Colorado
Rocky Mountain National Park was the focus of this trip. We began our trip by driving from Little Rock, Arkansas to Boulder, Colorado. There we picked up food for the weekend at Trader Joe’s. Once done there we drove on to Mary’s Lake Campground in Estes Park, Colorado. The next morning we had a quick breakfast before heading to Rocky Mountain National Park. There we drove to hike at a trail that we have done once before, and really wanted to experience the amazing trial again. That trail is the Sky Pond Trail. It is such an amazing place. After we finished the Sky Pond Trial in Rocky Mountain National Park, we drove back to Mary’s Lake Campground in Estes Park. There we cleaned up before driving to Boulder, Colorado to hang out on Pearl Street. For dinner, we had an amazing meal at The Post Brewing. The next morning we cooked pancakes for breakfast. After that, we left for downtown Estes Park to do a little shopping. After a short time there, we drove back to Rocky Mountain National Park. We drove up the Old Fall River Road to the Alpine Visitor Center. We spent some time touring the area then left to drive the rest of Trail Ridge Road. We then left the park thinking we were going to explore some of the National Forest in the area. However, we ended up driving to the Wild Basin Entrance to the Rocky Mountain National Park. We were not aware that when we turned down this dirt road that it would be another area of the National Park that is not as well known. We found a great place on the St. Vrain Creek to put up some hammocks and relax. We left there to go back to Mary’s Lake Campground to cook dinner. The next morning packed up camp, and drove to Boulder, Colorado where we had breakfast at Tangerine.
America's beautiful Rocky Mountains - Part 1 of Denver Trip
We are bringing you a video on our trip to Denver-Rocky Mountains. This video contains 1.5/3 days of our trip. Our itinerary looked like this:
Stay at Estes Park, CO
Day 1: Beautiful off-road (not scary when compared to previous experience at Utah) on Old Fall River Road to Chasm Falls, then taking Trail Ridge Road to do River Rafting with Rapid Transit Rafting. Great people and this is our first time doing River Rafting. We had dinner at a place called Thai Kitchen @Estes Park and that was terrible. So do not recommend food from there.
Day 2 (half): All day Trail Ridge Road to Alpine Visitor Center. We did a small hike called Alpine Ridge Trail, at the top has amazing view of Rocky Mountains. This day we blend with the mountains and enjoyed the twisties, we wish we had our motorcycle! On the way back we saw wild life at the Rockies. Wild horses, Yellow bellied Marmots and Big Horn Sheeps. We got some snaps on the video but not so clear.
So this is Part 1, enjoy the views! Part 2 will have Estes Park Downtown (small town with nice people), Denver Downtown and Garden of the Gods..
About us: We are Malayalees (born state of Kerala, India with mother tongue as Malayalam) and trying to share things we learn living in USA. For all videos we will come up with English subtitles so that everybody can follow it. Our contents include Motorcycles, Health, Travel and more. Alpine Visitor Center
11,796 feet above sea level at the visitor center in the Rocky Mountain National Park. Just below us was a herd of 20 Mountain Elk and a family of 2 moose. Was a really cool setting to be there in person and to see the snow and the VERY FAST wind.
Scariest drive of our life @ Rocky Mountain National Park
One of the scariest roads I've ever driven on! Just don't look down...
Some clips from Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado! Since we only had 1 full day there and didn't give ourselves time to adjust to the altitude we weren't able to do as much hiking as we had hoped. So we did a scenic drive up Old Fall River Road to the Alpine Visitor Center and then back down via Trail Ridge Road. We did short hikes here and there to see water falls and then one longer hike to the top of a ridge where we got an amazing view of the mountains.

We are Anja and Bob and we have been together for 28 years, we both have been born with the Wanderlust Gene and can't get enough of wandering and exploring this beautiful world. We have lived in California, New Mexico, Colorado and Hawaii, but have wandered many states and countries. We are Full-Time RV-ers and travel and work camp in a 2010, Winnebago View 24A Diesel Sprinter. We like to bring our 2012 Jeep Wrangler unlimited with us to explore where the RV can't go. We are not retired yet so we have to work on the road, we work camp at National parks, Forest Service and State parks and design some t-shirts and stickers and make some jewelry that are inspired by our travels. We will be selling those on our new website soon. We enjoy boon docking in nature or dry camping off grid along the ocean, in deserts and in the mountains. Our other passion is searching for treasures, one of those is a real Treasure Chest hidden by a fascinating gentleman named Forrest Fenn. We have been searching since 2013 and have filmed a few of our searches for you, so you can come along for the Thrill Of The Chase.
