Palermo: Italy Vlog 2016
Sicily is truly amazing, in the summer of 2016 I had the opportunity to travel around Palermo with my best buds. Although I managed to break all my cameras the trip was one for the books, we met an extremely lovely family that welcomed us into their home and showed us around the beautiful Mondello. Here is what we got up to after fighting with the YouTube copyright regulations I managed to finally make it to the other side. I would definitely recommend the trip I hope you enjoy x

Places to see in ( Palermo - Italy ) Giardino Garibaldi
The Garibaldi garden , also called Villa Garibaldi , is a public garden in Palermo. The garden was built between 1861 and 1864 by architect Giovan Battista Filippo Basile in Piazza Marina in Palermo , in the historic district of Kalsa and was named after the national hero Giuseppe Garibaldi just to celebrate the birth of the Italian nation , recently .
The villa has the entrances in correspondence of the main roads that converge in the square and is limited by a valuable cast-iron fence dating back to the same period of the creation of the green space produced by the Oretea Foundry . In the villa there are sculptural busts including the one by Giuseppe Garibaldi, Rosolino Pilo , Giovanni Corrao , Raffaele De Benedetto , Luigi Tukory , stolen in 2015 and soon found again, and Nicola Bălcescu as well as fountains and chalets. During recent excavations, parts of a paving consisting of pebbles have come to light.
Among the many exotic plants found inside the majestic Ficus macrophylla is certainly the main attraction being considered one of the oldest and largest in Italy, with a height of 30 meters, a circumference of the trunk that exceeds 21 meters and a foliage with a diameter of 50 meters. Among the plants present detaches the presence of a specimen of podocarpo dell ' Himalaya ( Podocarpus neriifolius ), a rare of Mexican origin oak ( Quercus polymorpha ), an imposing arborea gardenia of South Africa ( Gardenia thunbergia ). In spring you can witness the multicolored blooms of Sophora secundiflora, from the very fragrant violet flowers, which alternate with the yellow inflorescences of Roldania petasitis , the orange ones of Leonotis leonurus and the white ones of Sparrmannia africana .

palermo summer school 2016/2017
Palermo Summer School of Contemporary Art
a project by Daria Filardo, Stefania Galegati Shines and Davide Ricco.
The Summer School of Caffè Internazionale (despite the closure of the club, where the school was born), will hold its fourth edition in the summer of 2019, at Bottega 1 at Cantieri Culturali della Zisa in Palermo, 14th to 28th of July.
2019 visiting professors are Valentina Bonizzi (I)/ Driant Zeneli (AL) and Helen Cammock (GB)
The focus of the school remains a reflection on the idea of Counter/Production. Artistic counter-production is a device of disruption and poetic retrieval of reality in artistic language. The participants, together with the chosen tutors and curators, question themselves through the languages of art on possible strategies toward the necessity of rethinking the object, the process, the role of the artist and his function. Counter/Production works through the active participation of the students in identifying, analyzing and reproducing the idea of cultural production as a counter-production. The work done together becomes a substantial part of the city's texture, its particular spaces, its critical aspects and resources. The school proposes the participation of two / three very interesting personalities of the global contemporary art system. Their alternate presence as tutors contributes to a collective work aimed at building a process and/or stimulating the counter-production of a final project. Moreover the summer school offers the contributions of other 4-5 intellectuals with additional public meetings. The summer school has the character of an individual and collective workshop. Each participant will have a time for himself and a collective time. The workshop is structured in several moments: presentation of the students works, excursions to special places of the city, practice and theory with curators and invited artists, final event and party (if necessary). There are no limits of age, gender and nationality, but given the strong experimental character of the school, all participants are asked to be willing to get involved and follow an open and variable program. The summer school of Palermo does not promise shortcuts for the single artist career, but develops and experiments real poetic and political tools centered on the intentions of the group. Lessons are mainly held in English. The School has a cost of participation of 200 euros per student. The lessons usually take place in half a day, but sometimes they can lengthen to feeling/necessity. The cost does not include hospitality and meals, but the school can recommend very cheap accommodation. Summer school offers a scholarship to one bilingual student, who knows the city well, in exchange for help as a local referent/assistant to the group. Each participant must send a motivational letter and a selection of recent works in PDF format no later than midnight on March 31st , 2019 (UTC + 1). The final selection will be announced by April 18th, 2019. The cost of the school needs to be covered by April 28th, 2019. The application must be sent to the following email address: palermosummerschool@gmail.com Subject: Application Past editions have seen the participation as visiting professor / tutor of important figures of the international art scene that critically reflect on the production mechanisms such as: Jesal Kapadia (artist, NY / Bombay), Diego Perrone (artist, Milan), Aneta Mona Chisa (artist, Czech Republic/Berlin), Chiara Camoni (artist, Italy), Julieta Aranda (artist, NY/Berlin), Raimundas Malasauksas (curator, Lithuania/Paris), Dora Garcia (artist, Spain), Cesare Viel (artist, Italy). And, in addition: Maria Rosa Sossai (critic,Rome/Palermo), Giulia Crisci (curator, Palermo), Fabio Ciaravella (architect/artist, Palermo/Florence), Alessandro Librio (artist/musician, Palermo), Luca Cinquemani (artist/philosopher, Palermo), Marcello Carriero (critic/teacher, Palermo), Antonio Catelani (artist, Berlin/Milan), Domenico Mangano and Marieke Van Roij (artists, Palermo/Amsterdam), Cecilia Guida (critic/director of public program Art Line, Milan), Leone Contini (artist, Florence), Simone Frangi (curator, Milan), brought their contribution with interventions and lectures during the school period.

Salvo's rescue - vigil in Ciminna, Palermo, May 2019
Every day we fight against a system of traditions and beliefs based on the normalization of violence as a necessity for finding a job or producing food.
Every day we fight against what is considered normal.
We try to break the walls of these places of death with our words and actions, to demonstrate to those who are employed that there is always an alternative and that what they call work is not normal.
We try to show what we do to remind consumers that they are paying someone to do something they would never do. They are responsible even if their hands are not stained with blood.
We try to encourage change through dialogue and example, even in places and territories where change seems impossible and blood is a habit.
It is like throwing a seed every day, and our seed today is called Salvo.

PALERMO Città d'arte millenaria - Sicilia - HD
© CLAUDIO MORTINI™◊
