Boston College 2016 Commencement
United States Secretary of Energy Ernest J. Moniz, an alumnus of Boston College, returned to his alma mater to address the Class of 2016 at the University's 140th Commencement Exercises on May 23.
Boston College President William P. Leahy, S.J., presented Moniz with an honorary Doctor of Science degree at the ceremony, which took place in Alumni Stadium.
In addition, the University presented honorary degrees to: St. Boniface Haiti Foundation founding president Nannette Canniff; Deutsche Asset and Wealth Management Managing Director John (Jack) Joyce ’61, M.B.A. ’70, chairman of the Boston College Club; María Eugenia (Gena) McGowan, principal of St. Matthew Catholic School in Phoenix, Ariz.; and Father Emmanuel Mwerekande M.A. ’06, a priest at Our Lady of Fatima parish in Uganda.

More than 150 attendees were on hand to congratulate this year's five recipients of the Boston State College Education for Service Awards. Concordia's group of seven
For the 23rd year, the Concordia University Alumni Association honoured an impressive group of alumni, faculty and friends for their loyalty and generosity to the community. About 100 people celebrated the seven honorees at the Alumni Recognition Awards Banquet, held at Montreal's Sofitel Hotel on May 20. The 2014 recipients are:
· Alumna of the Year: Kahente Horn-Miller, BA 99, MA 03, PhD 09,
· Honorary Life Membership: David J. Azrieli, LLD 75
· Humberto Santos Award of Merit: J. Pierre Brunet, BComm 70
· Benoît Pelland Distinguished Service Award: John Aylen, MA 76
· MBA Alumnua of the Year: Nancy Hammond, BComm 89, MBA 93
· Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching: Marguerite Mendell, BA 72,
· Outstanding Faculty/Staff Award: Saul Carliner
The event was organized by Advancement and Alumni Relations. Concordia President Alan Shepard welcomed honourees and guests, while Bram Freedman, vice-president of Development and External Relations, and Secretary-General, served as master of ceremonies. Jonah Aspler, a student at Concordia's Department of Journalism, prepared this video report that includes some of the evening's many highlights.
