We didn't see monkeys and exotic birds, but we did learn tips on surviving in the Amazonian Jungle; starting a fire, finding water, avoiding poisonous bites, and trapping food. The best part though was learning how to make a Caiparinha!

Amazon Jungle Camping Adventure on the Urubu River
In October of 2015 I had the opportunity to fulfill a lifetime wish of visiting and exploring the Amazon. I arranged a two-day, two-night tour with Amazon Antonio Jungle Tours and myself along with five guys from Denmark traveled by boat from the lodge up the Urubu River and then we hiked on foot for the following two days carrying all our gear, camping primitively and sleeping in hammocks under the tree canopy.... We observed wildlife such as elusive spider monkeys, noisy macaws and huge creepy tarantulas.... Super high humidity and heat kept us in a constant sweat but cool freshwater streams provided much needed relief.... Our guides introduced us to several species of trees and plants with important medicinal properties.... Thanks to our guides and Amazon Antonio Jungle Tours for a amazing experience!

FAR TO THE NORTH, IN THE LUSH FOREST OF BRAZIL'S
NORTHMOST REGION,THE SAME COMFORTS
AWAIT THE TRAVELER AT THE FAMOUS HOTEL
TROPICALE IN MANAUS, A PLACE WHERE THE MYSTERIOUS
WORLD OF THE AMAZON WAITS JUST BEYOND THE GATE........
THE AMAZON FOREST, WHICH BLANKETS 40% OF BRAZIL'S
TERRITORY, IS MORE THAN JUST AN EXOTIC TRAVEL DESTINATION.
IT PLAYS A VITAL ROLE IN THE HEALTH OF OUR PLANET.
ITS GREENERY GENERATES 50%
OF THE WORLD'S SUPPLY OF OXYGEN, AND THE LIVING
JUNGLE HELPS MAINTAIN THE CRITICAL BALANCE OF
GASSES IN THE EARTH'S ATMOSPHERE.
THIS TROPICAL RAIN FOREST IS THE HOME TO MORE THAN
18OO SPECIES OF BIRDS AND SEVERAL HUNDRED
SPECIES OF MAMMALS.
AND MORE THAN 1500 SPECIES OF AQUATIC CREATURES fish from furnas?
INHABIT ITS COUNTLESS MILES OF WATERWAYS.
TO MEN TRYING TO CONQUER THE JUNGLE
THE RAIN FOREST APPEARS ALMOST INDUSTRUCTIBLE--
BUT THIS OVERWHELMING FOREST
IS ACTUALLY A MOST DELICATE AND FRAGILE ECO-SYSTEM. .........
THE LIFE OF THE FOREST IS PROTECTED BY THE HEAVY
LEAFY CANOPY, AND THE DENSE MAT OF ROOTS BELOW.
THESE ROOTS ARE ALL THAT HOLDS THE THIN LAYER OF SOIL tilt down
THAT NOURISHES AND HOLDS THE JUNGLE.
WHEN LARGE SECTIONS OF FOREST ARE DESTROYED FOR SHORT
TERM AGRICULTURE OR GRAZING, THE THIN LAYER OF TOP SOIL
WASHES AWAY IN THE FREQUENT RAINS,
LEAVING ONLY BARREN ROCK.
AND THOUGH THE JUNGLE IS SO LARGE THAT IT SEEMS LIKE
A LIMITESS RESOURCE, THOUSANDS OF ACRES ARE BEING
LOST THIS WAY EVERY DAY.
THE THREAT TO THIS VAST ECO-SYSTEM PLACES EVERY SPECIES
THAT LIVES HERE IN JEOPARDY, AND
BY IT'S EFFECT ON THE WORLDS CLIMATE AND THE VERY AIR WE BREATHE,
JUST MAY BE A THREAT TO LIFE ON EARTH ITSELF!
AS MORE AND MORE PEOPLE BECOME AWARE OF
THE FRAGILE BEAUTY OF THIS LARGEST OF ALL JUNGLES,
THERE APPEARS A NEW HOPE THAT THE
UNRIVALED PAGEANT OF RARE ANIMALS,
BRILLIANT BIRDS, AND STRANGE CREATURES
THAT MAKE THEIR HOMES AMONG THESE EXOTIC PLANTS
WILL INDEED CONTINUE..........
DESPITE THE STAGGERING SIZE OF THE JUNGLE,
ONLY ABOUT 5% OF BRAZIL'S TOTAL POPULATION
LIVES IN THE AMAZON REGION. OF THE ORIGINAL INHABITANTS,
THE INDIANS OF THE FOREST, ONLY A FEW THOUSAND REMAIN.
ALTHOUGH THEY ARE NOW PROTECTED BY A GOVERNMENT
AGENCY, INCURSIONS INTO THE FOREST, DISEASE,
AND OUTRIGHT SLAUGHTER HAVE MADE THEIR
CONTINUED EXISTENCE HERE PROBLEMATIC.
THE DESTRUCTION OF THE FOREST WOULD MEAN
NOT ONLY THE LOSS OF AN ECO-SYSTEM, BUT THE LOSS
OF THE HOME FOR THE PEOPLE WHO
HAVE LIVED HERE FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS.
