At Amelia Adventures, Thomas and Catherine Oliver are proud to practice “Leave No Trace” outdoor ethics. This means that we encourage and teach our guests to leave what they find, take only photos, and leave only footprints. But “Leave No Trace” is much more than that – it is a lifestyle that instills values and respect for our environment and our world.
Part of “Leave No Trace” is about planning ahead and preparing accordingly. We ask our guests to bring refillable water bottles, to cut down on the enormous plastic water bottle problem that is plaguing our environment. We respect our local wildlife and ask that our guests enjoy observing animals, reptiles, and birds in their natural habitat, but always let them be, as nature intended.

Kayak Trip - Kayak Amelia
In this episode of Cheap Family Travel ( Nick, Regan, Maggie, and Kate took a kayak tour to Amelia Island in Jacksonville, Florida. River kayaking trips are popular in Florida, as one can paddle past dolphins and manatees, and out to the island that is home to beautiful beaches and unique wildlife. We joined the Family Tour which is a specifically designed for families with kids. Our guides from Kayak Amelia gave our group a quick lesson in kayaking, and led us to the island, where the kids collected shells and finished a scavenger hunt. Captain Ray even shared his huge homemade chocolate chip cookies! Kayak Amelia also offers many unique paddling trips, stand up paddleboard trips (SUP), bike tours, kayak fishing trips, overnight kayak trips, and kayak and canoe rentals. Florida kayaking trips are a great way to get to less-crowded and more beautiful beaches, and we sure found those on Amelia Island in Talbot State Park. Get more information at kayakamelia.com

Our Downtown Fernandina Beach Amelia River Kayak Tour explores Amelia Island’s harbor’s rich maritime history and aquatic life. On the Amelia River your kayak tour will provide you with an intimate nature experience. You will be eye level to playful dolphins and gentle manatees as squadrons of brown pelicans glide above the water’s surface. The birthplace of the modern shrimping industry, Fernandina’s harbor is still home to a fleet of shrimp boats, along with a real sunken sailing vessel. Your tour guide will relate tales of pirates and privateers, colorful characters that make up Fernandina’s vibrant history.
As you kayak down the river on the Downtown Fernandina Beach Amelia River Kayak Tour you will have a good view of Tiger Island. Tiger Island boasts a safe and deserted white sandy beach, a nice place to pull up a kayak and have a snack while hearing more about the history of this mysterious island.

The Egans Creek Kayak Tour is in an estuary of the Amelia River; its waterway and the Egans Creek Greenway occupy 300 acres of protected wetlands in central Amelia Island. A favorite kayaking spot, the Egans Creek Kayak Tour engages paddlers in a true tidal marsh experience rich in marine life, featuring aquatic grasses and sedges and other native plants, animals, birds, and reptiles. A tidal marsh is a place where fresh water and sea water meet, its environment is driven by coastal tides. This means a slight current for paddlers, and also a breathtaking experience for those interested in wildlife viewing.
Where salt water vegetation flourishes, so do fiddler crabs, snails, and small fish, all providing food for wading birds such as herons, egrets, wood storks, and the extraordinary roseate spoonbill, a pink wading species with a spoon-shaped bill that allows it to sift through mud while feeding. Participants can expect to see many varieties of exotic birds, along with alligators, otters, turtles, snakes, and along the shoreline, perhaps a raccoon or bobcat.
Egans Creek Kayak Tour will take you past the Amelia Island Lighthouse, the state’s oldest, built in 1838 during the Territorial period, even before Florida was a state. It is the only lighthouse in Florida that has survived without any major rebuilding, a beacon that guided ships safely to the port of Fernandina along the Amelia River. It is considered one of Amelia Island’s most visible and beloved historic sites.
