America on Wheels Museum - Allentown, Pennsylvania
Our visit to America on Wheels Museum in Allentown, PA.
Vehicles from the Transformer Movies and a Mack Truck simulator were the highlight for the kids but there were tons of cars, trucks, motorcycles and specialty vehicles on display. Definitely a great half day stop if you are in the area although I could have spent an entire day there. The HubCap Cafe on the upper floor is a cool spot to check out, too!
More from Wikipedia:
America on Wheels is an over-the-road transportation museum in Allentown, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania in the United States.
The 43,000 square feet (4,000 m2) museum offers over 23,000 square feet (2,100 m2) of exhibit space divided into three main galleries and several smaller exhibits. The museum houses rotating exhibits on the second floor. Also on the second floor is the HubCap Cafe, and a vehicle art gallery featuring artists such as Bill Bravo.
The museum's collection features over 75 bicycles, motorcycles, automobiles and trucks in exhibits telling the story of people and products on the move from the days of the carriage to the vehicles of tomorrow.
The museum also houses the archives of Mack Trucks.
History
As early as 1989, Allentown city officials had announced plans to revitalize an old industrial area, which included the abandoned Arbogast & Bastian meat packing plant, along the Lehigh River. This redevelopment, which was to be known as Lehigh Landing, was to include a museum, a brewery, walking trails, a footbridge across the river, and a promenade for festivals. Development was hindered by fundraising problems, environmental remediation issues, and even a national debate on pork barrel government spending. After three separate groundbreakings (2001, 2004 and 2005), the museum, which cost over $17 million to build, was officially opened to the public on April 12, 2008.
Collection & exhibits
1889 Nadig Gas-Powered Carriage
A historically important part of the museum's collection is the 1889 Nadig Gas-Powered Carriage, one of the first gas-powered vehicles driven in America. Henry Nadig, a German-born mechanic living in Allentown, built his gas-powered carriage in 1889, two years before Charles E. Duryea's first gas-powered automobile. Police forced him to drive the carriage at night, because during the day it scared horses. The vehicle was discovered rusting in a collapsed shed in Allentown, and restored.
General collection
The collection of the America on Wheels is minimal as the majority of the vehicles on display are on loan. The West Gallery changes every six months based on a new theme. A number of the vehicles are on loan from the Mack Truck Museum of Allentown PA.

WATCH OUR DAM VIDEO! - Lehigh River Dam - Allentown, Pennsylvania
A quick stop on our way to Long Island. We stopped to check out the America on Wheels Museum in Allentown, PA but we were a bit early. We took a look at the dam on the Lehigh River out back. It was neat to see the power of water as it sharpened a large log to a point.

If it looks like I didn't put much effort into this, I didn't. I was actually debating on uploading this video for a few reasons.
This was from back in April, and I figured that now it's September, I really don't think I should upload something from 5 months ago. But I took the pictures for a reason, and that was to make a video. I also know that all you guys (my subscribers) mostly like horses, sugarland, etc.. so if you aren't interested in this, I totally understand. I thought all this stuff was pretty cool because I grew up around cars like this, so if your like me and are facinated with old cars and stuff like that, then you'll love this vid! So like I said, it's from a long time ago and I did not put much effort into it. But I hope you all enjoy it! :)

Government Auto Auctions In Knowledge by Shirley Higgs
Repossessed cars are those vehicles taken by some lending or financing providers from their previous owners because of two factors: late payments or failure to settle their month-to-month amortizations.
But did you know that there's an entire untapped market of cars in exceptional condition getting sold for actual pennies around the dollar? What's extra, the present economic crisis has created the number of repo cars for sale peak and prices go down for your
last year.

When you attend government auctions, you'll correctly be getting from a government agency. Again, this could save you thousands of dollars using the auto mechanic.
A very good auction should have a period for preliminary inspection and you ought to unquestionably go there to be confident that the auction will be worth going to.
Automobiles sold after becoming repossessed are sold as-is, so it is ideal to do some research beforehand and inspect the car or truck cautiously before purchasing.
If there is no longer any likelihood with the person being able to reclaim the car, then it is usually sold by means of a seized car or truck auction, which the agencies choose to perform as quickly as you can to lessen their storage costs.
Sometimes you may be capable of find repo cars at public auto auctions but this really is hugely unlikely. You may also need to look up the advertisement placed by auctioneers frequently inside the neighborhood newspapers or by means of online ads.
Shopping to get a repossessed vehicle tends to make sense since it is possible to effortlessly choose up an automobile for just ten and even twenty % of its true price.

Reading and Northern's 4-6-0 225, formerly owned by the late George Hart as Canadian Pacific 1098, beautifully restored with a great blue paint job.
Under the Whyte notation for the classification of steam locomotives by wheel arrangement, 4-6-0 represents the configuration of four leading wheels on two axles in a leading bogie, six powered and coupled driving wheels on three axles and no trailing wheels. In the mid 19th century, this wheel arrangement became the second most popular configuration for new steam locomotives in the United States of America, where this type is commonly referred to as a Ten-wheeler. As a locomotive pulling trains of light weight all wood passenger cars in the 1890-1920s, it was exceptionally stable at near 100 mph speeds on the New York Central's New York to Chicago Water Level Route and on the Reading Railroad's Camden to Atlantic City, NJ, line. As passenger equipment grew heavier with all steel construction, heavier locomotives replaced the Ten Wheeler.

Century of the Car Nicola Bulgari' NB Center for American Automotive History
This is the introduction to a new web-series created by carculture.tv.
The NB Center for American Automotive Heritage in Pennsylvania is an institution dedicated to preserving America’s automotive heritage through its commitment to craftsmanship, education, and good stewardship.
Created by Nicola Bulgari, curated by Keith Flickinger and the restoration process managed by Kris Flickinger, The NB Center saves, preserves and restores many of the “every-day-cars” that put America on wheels from the early 1920s to the late 1950s.
A lot of those marques no longer exist and have mostly been forgotten. Other brands that built cars in great numbers still exist but many of these models have all but disappeared. Because these vehicles were so available, they were not deemed valuable at the time.
Among its many endeavors, The NB Center works to emphasize the historical and societal relevance of these vehicles through its active partnerships with schools of all levels.
By preserving for posterity the cars that changed the lives of millions of Americans over generations, the NB Center does an immeasurable service for the socio-cultural heritage of the United States.
We look forward to delving further into the projects of The NB Center, in future episodes of this exclusive web-series. Watch this space!

1989 Mack Superliner and 1977 Kenworth W900A Out of Hibernation - Old-School V8 Diesel Power!
Spring is finally here, so it's time to get Ryan's two trucks out of hibernation and get them on the road. He just recently got them registered for antique/historic use, so now they can be used as toys (and tractor haulers). Everyone seems to like cold start videos, so here are a couple cold starts (around 45-50°, and they had both been started a couple weeks prior). We took both trucks down the road just to wake them up. Both trucks are V8-powered, which makes them very collectible.
The first truck is a 1989 Mack RW613 Superliner with an E9-450 HP V8, Mack 12-speed, Mack rears, Neway air ride, air ride cab, and Dayton spoke wheels all around. It was a lowboy tractor for Pennsy Supply company back in the day, and has 203,000 original miles (don't mind his shifting...the Mack 12-speed takes a learning curve).
The second truck (shown in previous videos) is a 1977 Kenworth W900A with an 8v92 Detroit Diesel (an earlier green one, non-turbo, 380 HP), an RT12513 Roadranger 13-speed, and air leaf suspension. This truck has 196,000 true original miles.
These two trucks need some TLC here and there, but they're both low-mileage survivors and will be a lot of fun to take to local shows and tractor pulls each summer. Turn up your speakers and enjoy the ride!

It was a warm day in February 2017 and I decided to run the scratch built doodlebug inspired by the PRR doodlebug on the Auburn & Allentown. We rode this in November on the Club's annual 'Turkey Trot' trip. The model isn't complete but it is far enough along to test run.
