About Colorado Springs:
Colorado Springs is one of the greatest cities in America! It's size is small enough to maintain the feel of a connected community, but large enough to offer almost everything residents might need. There are so many things to do within the area that the family could go a whole year without visiting the same place twice. People are always out hiking, fishing, camping, and playing in the area. The endless recreation options ensure that there is always something to do that is fun.
Population:
The population density of Colorado Springs is lower than average, at 2325 people per sq mile. With plenty of room to grow, Colorado Springs is expected to continue it's growth trends for many years to come. Colorado Springs, CO is the second largest city in Colorado, with an estimated population of over 650,000 residents, including all the metro areas. The city offers more amenities than most of the surrounding areas, which is a contributing factor to its rapid growth. It's a fun place to live, work, and play!
National Pride:
Colorado Springs is the heart of the nation’s Olympic movement, where a timeless culture of achievement, national pride and dedication sits comfortably alongside awe-inspiring beauty and unparalleled natural training grounds. We are home to the United States Olympic Committee Headquarters, 21 National Olympic Governing Bodies, over 50 National Sport Organizations, the U.S. Olympic Training Center and the future U.S. Olympic Museum and Hall of Fame.
Diverse Community:
Our diverse community has always reached for the sky, while remaining firmly grounded in the tremendous opportunities that the Pike’s Peak Region affords us every day. Not limited to our manmade facilities, the region boasts incredible natural training ground, inspirational views and vistas, and a commitment to excellence that transcends sports and infuses itself in our educational, medical, technological and cultural assets.
Parks & Entertainment:
When Colorado Springs filed the original town plat in 1871, it included one city block as the first city-owned park. The park, known as North Park or Acacia Square is the site of the present-day Acacia Park. Colorado Springs' city founder General William Jackson Palmer generously donated 1,270 acres of parkland, bridle and foot paths, scenic drives and roadways planted with trees, to establish a significant foundation of the Colorado Springs park system. These gifts included Acacia (North) Park, Monument Valley Park, Antlers Park, Pioneer Square (South) Park, Palmer Park, North Cheyenne Cañon, Prospect Lake and Bear Creek Cañon. In 1909, the Perkins heirs gave Garden of the Gods Park to the City, adding to the beautiful parkland already established.
The wide range of exquisite restaurants in Colorado Springs range from high-end sophistication and superb elegance to rustic outdoor suppers, great wood-fired pizza and casual sidewalk cafes.
Colorado Springs restaurants also make outdoor patio dining a relaxing and inviting experience. During the warm months, you’ll be happy to see casual and family restaurants all over town opening their doors and setting out tables and chairs for al fresco diners. In the winter, cozy up near the fireplaces you’ll find in many international and special occasion restaurants around town.
True Community Involvement:
Unique partnerships between neighborhood associations, churches, schools, non-profit agencies, private businesses, and military installations allows the Colorado Springs Community Centers to create an unparalleled environment for learning, recreation, and personal growth. Additionally, the Community Centers provide comprehensive and integrated community-based services at a single site for youth, families, the elderly, and those with special needs.

At nearly the height of a four story building and weighing in at over 24 tons, Continuum is one of the largest sculptural fountains in the United States. A collaboration between one of the American west's most significant modernist sculptors, Bill Burgess, and the capable architect/landscape designer David Barber, Continuum defies the traditional plodding expectations often associated with large scale public art. 356 water jets line the interior contours of the form, and provide a steady curtain of shimmering water and sound. The entire structure rotates. Effortlessly, even silently, four full revolutions per hour. It's this stroke of genius that places Continuum into a new visual standard. A standard that reflects the generative and ever changing information age.

United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum (USOPM)
Opening in 2020, the 60,000 square-foot state-of-the-art museum will honor the Olympic and Paralympic ideals and document the achievements of American Olympian and Paralympian athletes. A modern pedestrian bridge will connect patrons from America the Beautiful Park to the museum, and eventually the museum will anchor a modern new district of Southwest Downtown Colorado Springs, with apartments, a hotel, shopping, restaurants, and Vermijo Street will be reimagined as an exceptional tree-lined promenade, ideal for festivals or just urban walking.

America's Mountain
America's Mountain
How many know American the Beautiful began on the summit of Pikes Peak when in 1893 Katharine Lee Bates, a visiting English professor at Colorado College, took the carriage road to the top?
There, she penned the first words that led to the national hymn, and what many believe should be the National Anthem.
Her route went up Bear Creek to Jones Park, where CC professors built summer cottages. She stayed with Professor Frank Loud as his guest. From there she went on past Lake Moraine to the carriage road, up the SW slope from Clyde.
Recently the Colorado Springs City Council attempted to sell Jones Park for commercial development, and hopefully that misguided, reckless, and irresponsible effort is ended. Jones Park is the way of America the Beautiful, and is a national treasure.

Colorado Springs
In this episode of Cheap Family Travel, ( Nick, Regan, Maggie, and Kate made the short drive from Denver to Colorado Springs, Colorado, home of the Garden of the Gods and the United States Air Force Academy. We started out by taking the Pikes Peak Cog Railway to the top of Pikes Peak, one of many 14,000-foot mountains in the Colorado Rockies and the inspiration of America the Beautiful. Other fun things to do in Colorado Springs are visiting the U.S. Olympic Training Complex and whitewater rafting in Colorado Springs. The Garden of the Gods is an amazing park of beautiful rock and tree formations, with trails for driving, cycling, or hiking. We were impressed by the U.S. Air Force Academy, where enlisted men and women were arriving for the opening day of their stay. The Air Force Chapel is amazing with its huge windows facing the Rocky Mountains. A highlight for us was rafting on the Arkansas River with Wilderness Aware in nearby Buena Vista. Colorado Springs is a beautiful city, well worth visiting.

Most Beautiful Places In America HD 2014
Europe is great and Asia is awesome, but the song says America the beautiful.
These hidden places prove you don't need to spend big bucks and make a transatlantic trek-- the world's most beautiful wonders have been here all along, right in your American backyard.
1. Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
Fur trappers stumbled upon this boiling lake less than 200 years ago.
2. Kilauea Volcano and Thurston Lava Tube at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
Kilauea has been spewing lava without stop since 1983 in what is one of the longest-lived volcanic eruptions of modern times. Below it snakes a complex cave network that was carved from a river of lava 500 years ago.
3. Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth, Maine
George Washington himself oversaw construction on this lighthouse, which originally burned lamps made with whale oil.
4. Togiak National Wildlife Refuge, Alaska
Snuggled on the tip of Alaska, this Arctic Amazon is bursting with caribou, raptors, wolverines, and... wait for it... baby porcupines.
5. Salt Lake Temple and Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, Utah
Like at other Latter-day Saints temples, you'll need to get baptized and meet with a bishop before you go inside. Once you do, 10 acres of one of Brigham Young's first churches are yours to explore.
6. Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Colorado
We think the indigenous Ute tribe is responsible for the cryptic etchings we've found on this park's red rock walls. We've also found carefully-built fire rings from 3,000 years ago.
7. Gila Cliff Dwellings in Catron, New Mexico
Scholars are fairly certain these intricate caverns were home to American Indian families over 700 years ago. From them, we've unearthed a mummified infant whom researchers call Zeke.
8. Palouse Falls in Franklin/Whitman Counties, Washington
In 2009, kayaker Tyler Bradt ran his kayak -- on purpose -- down the 180-foot drop.
9. Windsor Ruins in Claiborne County, Mississippi
A wealthy landowner used slave labor to build this expansive plantation house in the 1800s. He died a few weeks after moving in, and a freak fire later burned down the building. All that remain are 23 crumbling, solitary columns.
10. Painted Hills in Wheeler County, Oregon
The different-colored bands represent the hills' slow growth over 30 million years. Archeologists have found remains of primitive camels and rhinos here.
11. White Sands National Monument in Alamogordo, New Mexico
This flat is incredibly rare because it's made of gypsum, which is usually dissolved by rainfall.
12. Horseshoe Bend near Page, Arizona
Grand Canyon looky-loos forget to seek out this funky-shaped bend in the Colorado River, which is nearby in Arizona terms.
13. Castle Rock in Gove County, Kansas
Eons ago, an ancient sea covered the Midwest. This chalk deposit 11 miles off the freeway is our souvenir.
14. Mount Hood National Forest, Oregon
Home of the real Oregon Trail.
15. Skagit Valley tulip fields in Mount Vernon, Washington
You don't have to schlep to Amsterdam for fields that burst into bloom-- there's more serenity and space at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, which locals celebrate each April.
16. Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes in Death Valley National Park, California
You've always thought Star Wars was filmed in a galaxy far, far away. It wasn't.
17. Gillette Castle State Park in East Haddam, Connecticut
This estate belonged to actor William Gillette, famous for portraying Sherlock Holmes onstage in the 1900s. Gillette named his cobblestoned castle Seventh Sister and installed a series of hidden mirrors to monitor guests at all times.
18. Canyon de Chelly National Monument in Apache County, Arizona
According to Navajo tradition, Spider Rock's second spire is home to Spider Woman, the creator of the free world.

Day 7 - Goldfield RV Park, Colorado Springs, CO
CANADA Bound - Day 7 takes us on a leisurely 157 mile cruise from northern New mexico to Colorado Springs, CO. We spent 2 nights in town at Goldfield RV Park on 26th St. This is a nice inexpensive Passport America facility with FHU, WiFi, Cable TV, and laundry. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the site was level. The bathrooms and showers were clean. It is situated about 15 minutes from Garden of the Gods and about 30 minutes from the entrance to Pikes Peak Hwy. One of my longtime fantasies was to drive to the top of Pikes Peak and this made Colorado Springs a destination for us on our way to Canada.

The 20 Best Mountain Towns in America
Ouray, Colorado
Believe it or not, more horses than people lived in this former mining town at the end of the 19th century. Today, Ouray is home to around 1,000 residents and a sizable population of tourists. They can often be found cruising down Black Bear Road, chilling out at the world's first ice climbing park, or frolicking on Main Street, a National Historic District chock-full of old buildings. Perhaps the most endearing of Ouray's attractions is its scenic setting in the San Juan Mountains, which has earned the town its nickname, Switzerland of America.
