KeysDiveGuide Vol.15-Geiger Key / Pelican Shoal Light Tower / The Sambos
Join Shoal Master Don Ferguson and jam out of Geiger Key Marina for easy access to 7 underrated Lower Keys dive sites! Hit the first target, PELICAN SHOAL LIGHT TOWER 26, for a quick dive through the Old Light Tower Ruins in 20 feet of water. Two miles to the west of the Light Tower, Pelican Shoal is marked by a large rocky island and several mooring buoys. A little over one mile to the west-southwest is the seldom dived and little known Speculator Shoal, truly unspoiled, wildcat diving at its finest! A little over one mile to the west-southwest is Eastern Sambo, marked by unlit red dayshape 28. Eastern Sambo is another less crowded site, home to a magnificent stand of Elkhorn Coral and millions of friendly fish in about 25 feet of water. 1/2 mile to the west-southwest is Middle Sambo, marked by a small spit of an island. The smallest of the Sambos in about 20-25 feet of water, Middle Sambo has great coral definition and a cavalcade of fish with little dive traffic! Two miles away to the west-southwest, the next and final dive site of the day is Western Sambo, marked by red dayshape 30. Actually two reefs separated by a sand channel and served by over 30 Mooring Buoys, Western Sambo is often super crowded with divers and snorkelers from Key West Dive Boats.
The Dive Odyssey Continues.......Tomorrow in Key West.......only 11 miles away!

KeysDiveGuideVol.27(GalleonHunter9)Ghost Ships-1733 Fleet
Meet Treasure Salvor Captain Finley Ricard and delve into the mysterious Ghost Ships of the 1733 Fleet! A Ghost Ship is a vessel that has not been relocated by modern salvors, her secrets entombed in the sands and coral of time. Check out a few recoveries Finley made near the Bahia Honda G-Marker 49A, that lead him to believe a Ghost Ship, possibly from the 1733 Fleet, rests hidden seaward of the old Bahia Honda Bridge. The only ship of the 1733 Fleet to make it back to Spain was SENOR SAN JOSEPH, nicknamed El Africa, a newly built Galleon displacing 500 tons. The Coffins Patch Wreck Trail, the focus of the upcoming Vol. 28 of KeysDiveGuide, is briefly discussed along with the final 3 wrecks documented on the old Spanish Chart, #18 - SAN FERNANDO, #19 - SAN IGNACIO, and a Situado (Supply Ship) LA FLORIDANA, which was bound for the growing Spanish Colony of St. Augustine. Two other ships on the manifest of registered vessels, LAS DELORES and EL ROSARIO were lost and never seen or heard from again. In addition, some reports state that over one dozen smaller undocumented ships departed Havana with the Armada for Spain. Without a doubt, there are still numerous undiscovered vessels, containing billions of dollars in treasure, cleverly concealed in the waters of the Florida Keys.

Coast Guard: Cuban Migrants Come Down Off Keys Lighthouse After Standoff
CBS Miami’s Rudabeh Shahbazi reports.
Maine
Maine (/ˈmeɪn/; French: État du Maine) is a state in the New England region of the northeastern United States, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and south; New Hampshire to the west; and the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the northwest and New Brunswick to the northeast. Maine is both the northernmost and easternmost portion of New England. It is known for its scenery—its jagged, mostly rocky coastline, its low, rolling mountains, its heavily forested interior, and picturesque waterways—as well as for its seafood cuisine, especially lobsters and clams.
For thousands of years, indigenous peoples were the only inhabitants of the territory that is now Maine. At the time of European encounter, several Algonquian-speaking peoples inhabited the area. The first European settlement in Maine was by the French in 1604 on Saint Croix Island, by Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Mons. The first English settlement in Maine, the short-lived Popham Colony, was established by the Plymouth Company in 1607. A number of English settlements were established along the coast of Maine in the 1620s, although the rugged climate, deprivations, and conflict with the local peoples caused many to fail over the years.
