Ampelmann Shop Berlin
Around since 1961, Ampelmann literally means 'traffic light man' and you can see these little guys all over Berlin.
Prior to the reunification of the city, the two German states had two different traffic light systems. From the 1980's these hatted walking men were used as a kind of 'Guardian Angel' for road safety education for children and became very popular in the daily lives of East Berliners.

„Pop into Berlin“ ist eine neue Initiative von visitBerlin in Kooperation mit Berlin Partner für Wirtschaft und Technologie: Ab September öffnen in fünf europäischen Metropolen (Stockholm, London, Paris, Wien, Amsterdam) Pop-up-Stores und werben für das kreative, innovative und lebenswerte Berlin. Die Stores in Top-Innenstadtlagen öffnen jeweils für einen Zeitraum von einer Woche und laden dazu ein, sich über Berlin zu informieren und sich vom Berliner Spirit mitnehmen zu lassen.

The most popular man in Berlin, even though he was almost lost for good when East German traffic lights were renovated after the fall of the Wall. Now that he’s been saved, he stands as another symbol for a reunified Berlin. Creative product ideas and marketing campaigns from the AMPELMANN company have made the Ampelmännchen a true Berlin ambassador on more than 600 products.
“Pop into Berlin” is a new initiative of visitBerlin in cooperation with Berlin Partner for Business and Technology: Pop-up stores will open in five European cities (Stockholm, London, Paris, Vienna, Amsterdam) starting in September to market Berlin as creative, innovative and liveable metropolis. The stores will open for one week each in top inner-city locations and visitors will be invited to learn about Berlin and catch some of its innovative and entrepreneurial spirit.
