We went exploring the Ananta Basudev Temple in Bhubaneswar and it’s kitchen for the famous Abhada (the divine tasting Temple Prasad). Our hunt took us into this 13th century temple premise which has a massive kitchen complex and Prasad market that can feed over 2000 people without any prior intimation. Watch us go ga-ga over the aromatic lipsmackingly delicious Mahaprasad.

AVADA IN SRI ANANTA VASUDEVA TEMPLE
Located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, Ananta Vasudeva Temple is a temple dedicated to Lord Krishna. Constructed in the 13th century, you will see the idols of Lord Balarama and Subhadra in this temple. The temple goes back to the period of Chandrika Devi, the daughter of Anangabhima III, during the reign of the king Bhanudeva. Ananta Vasudeva Temple is the only Vaishnava temple in Bhubaneswar.

Ananta Vasudeva Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Krishna, an avatar of Lord Vishnu located in Bhubaneswar, the state capital of Odisha, India. The temple was constructed in the thirteenth century, and the complete murties of Krishna, Balarama and Subhadra are worshipped there. Balarama stands under a seven hooded serpent, Subhadra holds Jewels pot and lotus in her two hands keping her left foot over another jewel pot, while Krishna holds a mace, chakra, lotus and a conch. The temple dates back to the period of Chandrika Devi, the daughter of Anangabhima III, during the reign of the king Bhanudeva.
It appears that the original image of Vishnu was worshipped on the spot where the great temple of Ananta Vasudeva was built in the 13th century A.D. Thus in the 13th century, Queen Chandrika of Eastern Ganga dynasty was prompted to construct a new temple - the temple of Anata Vasudeva in this place. There must have been an old temple where this Vishnu image was installed. The Marathas, who extended their empire up to river Mahanadi, were responsible for renovating the Vishnu temple at Bhubaneswar in the late 17th Century.

Along with the old town, the region, historically was often depicted as Ekamra Khetra (Temple City). With the diverse ranges of heritage resources, it showcases significant sacred cultural landscape components which have evolved with the support of available natural resource base and cultural trigger.
It is a confluence of Hindu, Buddhist and Jain heritage boasting of some of the finest Kalingan temples. With many 6th-13th century CE Hindu temples, which span the entire spectrum of Kalinga architecture, Bhubaneswar is often referred to as a Temple City of India. With Puri and Konark it forms the Swarna Tribhuja (Golden Triangle), one of eastern India's most visited destinations.
Most of the older temples in Bhubaneswar were built between 8th and 12th centuries, under Shaiva influence. The Ananta Vasudeva Temple is the only old temple of Vishnu in the city. In 1568, the Karrani dynasty of Afghan origin gained control of the area. During their reign, most of the temples and other structures were destroyed or disfigured
The Lingaraja temple is the largest temple in Bhubaneswar. The central tower of the temple is 180 ft (55 m) tall. The temple represents the quintessence of the Kalinga architecture and culminating the medieval stages of the architectural tradition at Bhubaneswar. critic and historian rated the temple as one of the finest examples of purely Hindu temple in India
The temple is active in worship practises, unlike most other temples in Bhubaneswar and Shiva is worshipped as Harihara.

India has a food temple where the Brahmin priests prepare food from age-old recipes in earthen pots over wood fires. They then bless the food and sell it at a market attached to the temple (Ananta Vasudev Mandir).
I'll take you behind the scenes of Ananta Basudev Mandir temples in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha as the priests cook the food (prasad). Then we'll go to the temple's food market and buy the blessed food from the priests and try it out! There are 11 dishes for me to try.
