This video is the first part in a response to Gregory in Croatia. He asks what would be the right teas to buy and re-sell in 10 years. Before I can answer that it's important to explain the different tea factories and producers and their pros and cons. I give a background on some the different tea factories, their history, classic brands and products. I also talk about which pu-erhs I prefer to get from each factory.

Yunnan Six-Famous-Tea-Mountain Tea Industry Inc. is an enterprise specialized in production and sale of pu’er tea, black tea and green tea. The company has set up “six-famous-tea-mountain” scholarship and grant-in-aid to award excellent students and aid impoverished students in South China Agricultural University and cooperated with Yunnan University Biology scientific college, Yunnan Tea scientific Research Facility in conducting pu’er tea microorganism germ research. Set up a “Six-Famous-Tea-Mountains” ancient tea Researcher Facility. Du Xi ( 杜溪 ) is a talented Chinese artist from Kunming, Yunnan. We partnered with him to put some of his artwork on our sheng puerh tea cake. This collaboration is our 2017 Jinggu Bàng.
We sit down with Du Xi in his Kunming studio and have a session with this tea. We chat about who he is, his work and inspirations. This is a long video and is full of ambient rain and baby noises. We appreciate you watching.

Scott & Xiao Yao Drink the 2018 Yunnan Sourcing Queen of Yi Wu Ripe Pu-erh Tea Cake
We are proud to announce our second Yi Wu area ripe pu-erh tea cake produced under the Yunnan Sourcing Brand! We used spring 2018 plantation and wild arbor Yi Wu area tea leaves that were expertly wet piled in Menghai to press this tea cake.
This is a medium-lightly wet piled ripe tea, so it's one that will age very gradually and will take somewhat longer to lose it's wet pile taste. That being said it's an excellent candidate for longer term aging due to it still having alot of sheng greenness to it.
It's not a graded ripe pu-erh, but rather just all the the different grades mixed together with only the coarsest leaves removed. The result is a rich, thick and textured tea that is both totally unique and very complex in taste, aroma and cha qi.
The dog featured on the wrapper (a Doberman) is my lovely Lucy who has traveled to Yi Wu twice in her life! Naturally she is the Queen of this fine tea producing area!

Scott Drinks 2017 Yunnan Sourcing Da Mao Shan Raw Pu-erh Tea Cake
Da Mao Shan 大帽山 is a remote area in the farthest souther section of Jinggu County right near the border of Jinggu and Lancang counties (both in Simao). Da Mao Shan (lit. Big Smoky Mountain) is known as such as it's often clad in mist and appears to be smoking like a volcano. Our Da Mao Shan area tea garden is accessible only by motorcycle track and is comprised of 50-150 yer old trees growing naturally. Due to the remoteness of the area, the entire process from picking to mao cha is done by hand (kill-green is done with wood-fire).
The tea is very strong.. with alot of bitterness. Thick mouth-feel and a very long lasting taste and feeling in the mouth. There is a slight smokiness due to wood fired kill-green frying process.

Blang people: Millennium tea farmers
As one of the oldest peoples in Yunnan Province, the Blang ethnic group mainly lives in the mountainous area of Menghai County in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture. The Blang people have been tea farmers for thousands of years as they live in areas abundant in tea groves.

Xishuang Banna (西双版納) as a famous pu-erh tea production area
Xishuang Banna is situated on the Southern end of Yunnan and it is located at the borders of Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos. The name of “Xishuang Banna” is originated from Thai language. The ancient route of Tea and Horse started from the Southern end of Xishuang Banna, a town called Yiwu (易武), and it continued up to the North. Tea was once stocked and gathered at a town called pu-erh (普洱) which is the hub for pu-erh tea trading and logistics. This is why the minorities’ tea was named as pu-erh.

Yiwu Zhengshan tea cake
Yiwu Zhengshan Pu Er tea cake is produced from tea leaves harvested from Yi Wu Zheng Shan,in southeast Yunnan province. The word Zheng means original, and only tea leaves harvested from Yi Wu town (only a few sq km in size) can be considered as such. The infusion yields a strong liquor that is slightly bitter but finishes with a sweet aftertaste. Aged in the Shou, cooked style, this pu-erh has already settled into a rich and versatile flavor profile.
