The biggest profit is made by the cloister's brewery. Each year, it brews about 1 million 200 thousand liters of wheat beer and dark beer and sells it in all over the world. Die Suche nach Gott und unternehmerischer Erfolg - im Benediktinerkloster Andechs in der Nähe von München ist das kein Widerspruch. Die Mönche zwischen 36 und 80 Jahren leben nach den Grundsätzen der Bibel. Gleichzeitig führen sie ihr Kloster als Unternehmen - mit über 200 weltlichen Mitarbeitern.
Den meisten Gewinn erzielt die Klosterbrauerei. Rund 120.000 Hektoliter Weiß- und Schwarzbier werden hier jedes Jahr gebraut und gehen nach Deutschland, Italien, Spanien, Frankreich, Russland oder Japan. Neben der Brauerei betreiben die Mönche noch eine Metzgerei, brennen Likör und bewirtschaften die Felder der Umgebung. Und dann kommen auch noch jede Menge Besucher - rund eine Million jährlich, Touristen genauso wie sinnsuchende Pilger. Das Kloster Andechs ist seit dem Mittelalter ein wichtiger katholischer Wallfahrtsort. Bleibt bei so viel Unternehmertum noch Zeit für innere Einkehr? Zumindest im ältesten Wallfahrtsort Bayerns. Kloster, Wallfahrt und Gastfreundschaft haben in Andechs Jahrhunderte lange Tradition. Jedes Jahr lockt der Heilige Berg über eine Million Wallfahrer und Touristen an! Neben der Klosterbrauerei, Metzgerei und Brennerei, gibt es auch Tagungen und ein reichhaltiges, kulturelles Angebot. A photo slide show from our trip to Germany. What a wonderful place this was. Great sights. And great food and beer. Look up the history of Andechs and you will be amazed.
Quick history: It is a municipality in Germany and it is in Bavaria. They have been brewing beer there since 1455. The monastery offers it to the public to help with running the church.

Travel Note: I wish I took more video of the biergarten but both the food and beer were so amazing I was completely emotionally distracted.
Brauerhandwerk im Kloster Andechs
Das Brauerhandwerk hat in Andechs eine lange Tradition. Im Jahre 1455 wurde das Kloster gegründet. Und seitdem gibt es auch die Brauerei. Heute wird das Bier bis nach Russland und Japan ausgeliefert. Allein das Bräustüberl auf dem Klostergelände hat über eine Million Gäste im Jahr.
