Anderson Ferry can get you around Brent Spence Bridge closure
Have you thought about using the Anderson Ferry, about 10 miles west of downtown Cincinnati, to avoid traffic congestion this summer? Tri-State commuters' biggest headache is about to turn into a migraine, at least temporarily, as routine road repair work on the Brent Spence Bridge is set to begin Friday evening. Beginning 9 p.m. Friday, crews will begin set-up for a 60-day, three-phase project, which will include concrete resurfacing, repairs to some of the steel work, and upgrades to the drainage and lighting systems, among other routine maintenance. Overnight lane closures will follow the third phase's completion for at least another three months. At points throughout the weekend, commuters should expect to see the double-decker bridge reduced to one lane in each direction as crews set up the construction zones. Starting Monday, June 26, motorists will see two-lane closures of varying configurations for the duration of the project. Certain entrance and exit ramps will see closures for the duration, as well. Since the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Ohio Department of Transportation's joint announcement last week about the upcoming work, anxiety has been growing among Tri-State commuters.

DELHI TOWNSHIP, Ohio (Jeff Hirsh) -- One of the coldest spots in the Tri-State has to be the Anderson Ferry.
Despite the below zero wind chills, the ferry remains open to take people across the Ohio River from Delhi Township to Boone County.
Crew member Mitch Hempfling says it's hard to do his job when it's this frigid.
It can get difficult, the main thing is the ice. The boat gets ice on it, you have to clear that, of course. The ropes, they get moisture in them and when it gets down this low they freeze. When we get here at 5:30 in the morning, it takes about half hour just to untie the boat and get going.
The ferry has been running since 1817.

The Brent Spence Bridge is reduced to one lane headed southbound for the weekend of July 15-16, 2017. The ramp from the eastbound Sixth Street Expressway to the Brent Spence Bridge is closed. Drivers in Greater Cincinnati should plan to spend some extra time on the road and consider an alternate route.

TOWNSHIP LOSES $6 MILLION TO FAILED PARKING GARAGE
ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, OH (WXIX) – A Cincinnati-area township’s leader blames the President of the United States for the reason a decade-old parking garage project still isn’t finished. In 2006, Anderson Township leaders voted to give a developer $6 million in tax dollars to build a two story parking garage on land the township doesn’t own.
Construction was supposed to start on the project in July 2007 after Anderson Township officials announced the parking garage-movie theater-condominium project. The township signed a lease agreement with a private developer to spend $6 million on a two-story parking deck under the theater/condominium project.
The total cost was $35 million. Cincinnati developer JFP Group, Inc. would come up with the rest of the funding for the condominium and theater.
Plans show the original structure was designed to be seven stories, would include 50 units and a multiple-screen movie theater.
Anderson Township cut the first check to the JFP Group in November 2007. Through December 2009, records show the township paid a total of $5,876,107.87 to the developer for design, architecture, lawyers, materials, groundwork, construction and consultants.
As of this report, the site is an empty lot with pillars, sections of concrete pre-fabricated slabs and rusted rebar sticking up through part of the foundation for the parking garage.
