Corey Barksdale Atlanta Georgia Art Gallery Online Fine Art Paintings
If you live in Atlanta, you might have already come across Corey Barksdale's paintings in art festivals, galleries, and more recently on some of the walls of the city. This bright African American artist brings life to his designs with great textured colorful elements and creativity. His work reflects his many sources of inspiration, with a focus on music and dance - Jazz music in particular -, urban city life and the love and strength present within the African-American community.
Corey has carried out numerous projects for businesses and individuals throughout Atlanta, and he has participated in art shows all over the United States.
Over the last few years Corey has developed his skills as a mural artist. One of the major projects he recently completed was a 30 feet mural painting for the Beltline, Atlanta's ambitious urban redevelopment project. Rob Brawner, the Atlanta Beltline program director was thrilled with the result, stating that: Corey was able to bring the Atlanta BeltLine alive through his colorful interpretation of the project. Another much acclaimed mural project he completed this summer was a vast wall painting for the Ben Hill Recreation Center in south Atlanta, as part of the Paint Big project, an initiative by Wonderroot, Living Walls, Dorian McDuffie and the City of Atlanta Office of Recreation.
On another note, but again involving the City of Atlanta, through the Office of Cultural Affairs this time, Corey recently had the honor to be asked to create a painting for the poster of the 35th Atlanta Jazz Festival which will be held during Memorial Day weekend in May 2012. Barksdale says he is excited to have been selected as the official poster artist: The jazz festival is one of my favorite events to attend and be involved with in Atlanta. The great sound of jazz and interaction of beautiful families inspire me.
Despite being extremely busy with his various projects, Corey is also an artist who cares and he often donates his time and artistic energy to different charities. It's important to contribute to worthy causes because we all need to support each other at times he says. In order to have a strong community we all have to lend a hand to achieve a positive change in our city.
This Summer he participated in a house remodeling with the ABC show Extreme Makeover Home Edition, for the Rucker family in Madison, Georgia. His contribution consisted of a colorful mural painting, for the bedroom of Aniah, an inspiring nine year old girl who lost a leg while saving her little sister from a traffic accident last Spring. Through his painting, representing the music and dance that she used to enjoy before the accident, he hopes to not only bring back some of that music to her life but also to encourage her aspirations as an artist. Being a part of the creation of Extreme Home Makeover was wonderful, says Barksdale, there was a synergy of positive and creative energy from talented people who all came together for an important cause: to change the life of an amazing little girl and her family. Aniah was so inspiring to him that he even created a short video tribute to her, portraying her as Wonder Woman. It can be seen on his Youtube channel.
Every year we are amazed by his talent and generosity! says Megan Anderson from the Furniture Bank of Atlanta, a charity to which he has been donating art work since 2007.
And indeed, if two words were to be chosen to describe the artist Corey Barksdale, talent and generosity would probably be the most accurate.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! SUMMARY
=======
For decades in the U.S., there have been isolated incidents of removal of Confederate monuments and memorials, although generally opposed in public opinion polls, and several U.S. States have passed laws over 115 years to hinder or prohibit further removals.
In the wake of the Charleston church shooting in June 2015, several municipalities in the United States removed monuments and memorials on public property dedicated to the Confederate States of America. The momentum accelerated in August 2017 after the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. The removals were driven by the belief that the monuments glorify white supremacy and memorialize a treasonous government whose founding principle was the perpetuation and expansion of slavery. Many of those who object to the removals, like President Trump, believe that the artifacts are part of the cultural heritage of the United States. The vast majority of these Confederate monuments were built during the era of Jim Crow laws (1877–1954) and the Civil Rights Movement (1954–1968). Detractors claim that they were not built as memorials but as a means of intimidating African Americans and reaffirming white supremacy. The monuments have thus become highly politicized; according to Eleanor Harvey, a senior curator at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and a scholar of Civil War history: If white nationalists and neo-Nazis are now claiming this as part of their heritage, they have essentially co-opted those images and those statues beyond any capacity to neutralize them again. In some Southern states, state law restricts or prohibits altogether the removal or alteration of public Confederate monuments. According to Stan Deaton, senior historian at the Georgia Historical Society, These laws are the Old South imposing its moral and its political views on us forever more. This is what led to the Civil War, and it still divides us as a country. We have competing visions not only about the future but about the past.
Political Documentary Filmmaker in Cold War America: Emile de Antonio Interview
Emile Francisco de Antonio (May 14, 1919 -- December 16, 1989) was an American director and producer of documentary films, usually detailing political or social events circa 1960s--1980s. About his films:
He has been referred to by scholars and critics alike, and arguably remains, ...the most important political filmmaker in the United States during the Cold War.
de Antonio was born in 1919 in in the coal-mining town of Scranton, Pennsylvania. His father, Emilio de Antonio, an Italian immigrant, fostered the lifelong interests of Antonio by passing on his own love for philosophy, classical literature, history and the arts. Although his intelligence allowed him the privilege of attended Harvard University alongside future-president John F. Kennedy, he was also familiar with the working class experience, making his living at various points in his life as a peddler, a book editor, and the captain of a river barge (among other duties).
After serving in the military during World War II as a bomber pilot, de Antonio returned to the United States where he frequented the art crowd, often associating with such Pop artists as Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, and Andy Warhol, in whose film Drink de Antonio appears. Warhol was famously quoted praising de Antonio with the words, Everything I learned about painting, I learned from De.
The book Necessary Illusions (1989) by Noam Chomsky and the documentary Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media (1992) by Mark Achbar and Peter Wintonick are dedicated to Emile de Antonio.
