TTQC: My Thrifty Vacation Gear| Plus Size Fashion| Essence Fest| New Edition| Daytona Beach
Hello y'all! Countdown to launch day has officially begun. Thanks so much to my FFSS's (faithful few subbies so far). You guys are the light, now let's spread it around ???? August 1st will be here before we know it!
Had such an awesome time at The Essence Music Festival in New Orleans and then getting my tan on with the family in Daytona Beach, FL. Of course she was thrifted and gifted from head to toe! Mike Bivins said Hey Baby to me *swoons* and I learned some cool history.
Some tips that helped me save coins on this trip:
1. Plan ahead and use a travel agent. Taking this option for our trip to Nawlins allowed us to make easy and affordable payments over time on our trip. And we were pampered by the absolute best agent. Check out Rolanda Chambers, owner/operator of Golden Voyage Travel.
2. Pack a lunch! Honey traveling with 5 full sized humans can get expensive if you are stopping to eat at fast food restaurants. Even the $1 menu adds up! Not to mention it's not the healthiest. For this 7 hr roadtrip I got 2 day old French bread loaves for .80¢ total made subs, filled a cooler with water bottles, had apples and chips for snack. We kept our cooler filled in Daytona instead of buying drinks and hitting up vending machines.
3. Put on your walking shoes! The money we saved on car rentals and transportation allowed us to splurge one night on a really good meal in The Big Easy. Our agent scouted a location that was about 1.5 miles in either direction from the two major venues for the #Essence Fest. We took our time and traveled every day by foot. Sure wish I had a fitbit!
4. Be flexible and fearless. For our family trip to Daytona we knew the dates we'd travel but we left hotel reservations until the day we started driving. Yup, hit up Hotwire.com as we made our way and got a great room at the Baymont Inn & Suites for a total of $110 for 3 nights and that included free wifi, and breakfast each morning.
5. Channel your inner historian. Every time we travel (last year we took a roadtrip to Chi town for The Taste of Chicago), we do our research about historical landmarks, homes, events, and heroes. Many times the historical societies welcome an opportunity to educate and most often for free! In Daytona we visited The Casements, The home and grave of Mary McLeod Bethune, and The Historic Angell & Phelps Chocolate Factory all for FREE.
And now from THE THRIFTING QUEEN'S CLOSET:
Goodwill Of North GA, Peachtree Corners- One 5 One dark denim shorts, Yellow Rafaella dress. I paid $6.36 for it and it still had the $100 tag on it!
Salvation Army, Duluth- Pink tank worn under Jlo top
Park Avenue Thrift, Duluth- Dashiki, Old Navy light denim shorts, denim romper, Jlo pink sequined top
Uptown Cheapskates, John's Creek- Coral Crop, Kenneth Cole leather sandals
Kohl's- Yes she shops at retail stores, but only if the price is right! Got the flower and striped black INC. shorts for $3.24!
Gifted (aka...hand me downs...aka...You're not throwing that away are you!?) My swimsuit and the gorgeous orange flowered sundress were both FREE from friends and family that no longer wanted them. #Score
