Is ANGKOR WAT Worth Visiting? - Siem Reap Cambodia
Is Angkor Wat worth visiting? Let us show in an in depth look at Angkor Wat Temple in Siem Reap Cambodia so you can decide if it’s worth battling the crowds to see the biggest temple in the world. We also show you another temple in Siem Reap that is a great Angkor Wat alternative, Bantaey Srei. Welcome to Cambodia, DBV Fam!
During our short stay in Siem Reap, Cambodia, the one vlog we wanted to make was a temples of Angkor video. Of course, first up on our list was Angkor Wat. We were initially skeptical of visiting Angkor Wat due to the fact that over 2 million people visit this Khmer temple every year. We couldn’t stop wondering, is Angkor Wat worth visiting? We set out on a mission to let you guys know! When we arrived at the temple, we were pleasantly surprised that there were very few people there. One of our biggest tips to visiting Angkor Wat would be skip the sunrise and head to the temple around noon on a weekday. If you can handle the direct sunlight and heat, you will be rewarded with practically empty temple grounds just like us! Right as we were leaving around 2pm the crowds started flowing into Angkor Wat again right was we were leaving.
Angkor Wat is the biggest temple in the world and it is also known as the best temple in Siem Reap Cambodia. I don’t know if we can whole heartedly agree that it’s the “best” temple, but it certainly is the most famous of the Siem Reap temples. Although ticket prices are steep, $37 for a 1 day pass, the answer to the question is Angkor Wat worth visiting is yes. The temple is certainly worth seeing and the ticket price covers your admission to many other temples in Siem Reap throughout the Angkor Archaeological Park.
We were dead set on finding some temples other than Angkor Wat to show you guys, since it’s so heavily covered already on YouTube. We found the most beautiful little temple about an hours motorbike ride north of Angkor Wat called Bantaey Srei Temple. Bantaey Srei is a small temple made almost entirely out of pink sandstone which is a gorgeous color and a material suitable for easy carving. The intricate carvings are definitely the highlight of Bantaey Srei. We suggest heading there around golden hour, 3-5pm so you can see the amazing soft light illuminate the pink sandstone. This temple was not crowded when we got there at 4pm, however we did see tour buses leaving when we arrived. Overall, we recommend this as a good Angkor Wat alternative, however you won’t see the grand size of Angkor Wat Temple here. Overall, it’s best to couple Bantaey Srei with Angkor for a full Siem Reap temple experience.
If you have any questions about the history of Angkor Wat, tips for visiting Angkor Wat or anything regarding travel in general, please leave a comment down below! Unfortunately, this is our one and only Cambodia travel vlog as we were very tied up with work over the two weeks we stayed in Siem Reap Cambodia. However, we loved Cambodia so much we are already planning a trip to visit the southern islands. Although we didn’t film, we did a lot of other things during our stay so if you have any questions on what to do in Siem Reap please let us know. Until next time, seeya!

Siemreab day 2 | Cycling around ancient temples
A brief history of Angkor and West Baray
Angkor: a temple complex in Cambodia and one of the largest religious monuments in the world. It’s on a site of 162.6 hectares.
Originally it was constructed as Hindu temple to dedicate to the god Vishnu for the Khmer Empire then it was gradually transformed into a Buddhist temple toward the end of the 12th century.
It was built by the Khmer King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century in Yasodharapura, present-day Angkor.
West Baray:
The largest artificial reservoir (8 x 2.2km) in the Angkor Park, called the West Baray is located near Angkor Thom city. In ancient times, the Baray was supplied by fresh water that came from two main sources: The Siem Reap and Puok Rivers. The reservoir was probably built by the great king, Suryavarman I, during whose reign the whole Angkor Empire was greatly expanded. This construction was finished in the second half of the 11th century by king Udayadityavarman II, who built, in the centre of the West Baray, a small temple called West Mebon on an island where the bronze statue of the ‘Reclining Vishnu’ was found.

Asia's Most UNDERRATED Landmark?! (Angkor Temples)
Are you on Instagram? Join me @drewbinsky!
EVER BEEN TO CAMBODIA? If not, then you’re in for a treat when you hear about these magical Angkor Temples (also where the movie Tomb Raider was filmed)!!
I’m thrilled to be back in Siem Reap, Cambodia for the first time in 4.5 years — the town has evolved a lot since I last remembered. Today I went on a tour that I found on KKday, in which a private guide named Lonh showed us all over this ancient city. I learned so much in one day that I can't even begin to explain -- so I hope you learn a thing or two in this video!
Do you also agree that the Angkor temples in Cambodia are the most underrated landmark in Asia? If not, then what is?

Travel from Stung Treng to Preah Vihear and Siem Reap Province | Trip on Vacation in Cambodia
We Just got up from Angkor Meas Hotel at Krong Stung Treng, rushing to breakfast at Samki market in Stung Treng Town. They served the foods around and outside of Samki market. We had grilled pork rice and noodle soup for breakfast and rushing traveling on Mekong bridge heading to Preah Vihear Province. Before we got to Preah Vihear, we visit a local pagoda to pay our respect on the 2nd day of Pchum Ben Festival. Then we hit the road again traveling to Preah Vihear Province. We didn't stop at Krong Preah vihear as we wanted to sleep at Krong Siem Reap. We stop at Peoung Preah Ko pagoda in Preah Vihear province to relax and had some snacks, the baby duck eggs. After this we continue our trip on National Road 64 to Krong Siem Reap in Siem Reap province. We had dinner along National Road 6 near the entrance to Bakong temple. We stayed at The Villa Socret Garden with a nice swimming pool. Kids really enjoyed this swimming pool at night before going to bed.

Jahrhunderts wiederentdeckt.
Angkor Wat, Siem Reap - Cambodia 4K Travel Channel
Angkor is a huge temple district in the Cambodian jungle, that contains a number of individual temples. The largest and most famous is undoubtedly Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat was built as a Hindu temple in the golden age of the Khmer empire by king Suryavarman II, who ruled from 1113 to 1150. The construction period was 37 years and ended abruptly with his death. Some reliefs remained unfinished. Suryavarman II presumably died in a campaign against Campa, the empire of the Cham in today's Central Vietnam. Angkor was the largest city in Southeast Asia with approximately one million of inhabitants at that time. The eastern and western Baray (water reservoirs) were already built, so that Angkor had a sophisticated irrigation and canal system.
The temple symbolizes the universe and was presumably dedicated to the God Vishnu. The moat around the temple represent the primordial ocean.
The 190 m wide moat of Angkor Wat surrounds an area of 1.3 by 1.5 km.
When you have crossed the moat, you have to pass the outer wall. From here, a 350 m long path leads past the two libraries to the actual temple.
The outer galleries span an area of 40,000 m². Here you see the precious bas-reliefs, with a total length of 800 m. They were in color once, as some color residues still prove. Through different atria we reach the inner galleries, that span a surface of 3600 m², and lie one level up.
The inner sanctum rises on this area. A 70 ° steep staircase leads to the third level. In front of it, the tourist masses pile up, because every quarter of an hour, only a limited number of persons can go upstairs. A waiting time up to one hour can be expected.
Once at the top, you can enjoy the beautiful view over the roof of the jungle and the temple. Four inner courtyards are grouped around the central tower, which is 64 m high. The central tower (Prasat) has small prayer niches with God figures, in all four directions.

Angkor Wat Temple
Banteay Kdei (Khmer: ប្រាសាទបន្ទាយក្តី; Prasat Banteay Kdei), meaning A Citadel of Chambers,[1] also known as Citadel of Monks' cells,[2] is a Buddhist temple in Angkor, Cambodia. It is located southeast of Ta Prohm and east of Angkor Thom. Built in the mid-12th to early 13th centuries AD during the reign of Jayavarman VII (who was posthumously given the title Maha paramasangata pada[3]), it is in the Bayon architectural style, similar in plan to Ta Prohm and Preah Khan, but less complex and smaller. Its structures are contained within two successive enclosure walls, and consist of two concentric galleries from which emerge towers, preceded to the east by a cloister.[4][5]
This Buddhist monastic complex is currently dilapidated due to faulty construction and poor quality of sandstone used in its buildings, and is now undergoing renovation.Banteay Kdei had been occupied by monks at various intervals over the centuries until the 1960s. The Banteay Kdei, one of the many Angkor temples, is located in the Angkor Archaeological Park of 400 square kilometres (150 sq mi) area. The ancient city of Angkor during the Khmer Empire extended from Tonle Sap to the Kulen hills covering a vast area of 1,000 square kilometres (390 sq mi).[5] The temple is approached from the east gopura of Ta Prohm along a 600 metres (2,000 ft) path. This path leads to the west gate entrance gopura of Banteay Kdei. It is 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) east of Angkor Thom. The Khmer Empire lasted from 802 to 1431, initially under Hindu religious beliefs up to the end of the 12th century and later under Buddhist religious practices. It was a time when temples of grandeur came to be built and reached a crescendo during the reign of Suryavarman II until 1191, and later in the 12th–13th centuries, under Jayavarman VII. Many Buddhist temples were built, including the Banteay Kdei, from middle of the 12th century to early 13th century. Though Jayavarman VII was credited with building many temples, he was also accused of squandering money on extravagant temple building projects at the expense of society and other duties. He built Buddhist temples in which Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara was the main deity.[5] This temple built, conforming to the style of the Ta Prohm and Preah Khan temples in the vicinity during the same period by Jayavarman VII, but of a smaller size, was built as a Buddhist monastic complex on the site of a 10th-century temple built by Rajendravarman. Some small inscriptions attest to the building of this temple by Jayavarman VII and the royal architect, Kavindrarimathana.[4]
Jayavarman VII had come to power at the age of 55 after defeating Chams who had invaded Angkor and subjected it to devastation. His prodigious activity resulted in the restoration of Cambodia from its ruins. He was chiefly the architect of the rebuilt capital at Angkor Thom and was called a Great Builder. He was responsible for building many temples, which apart from Banteay Kdei, included the central temple of the Bayon, Prah Khan, Ta Prohm and many others, and also many rest houses for pilgrims.[8] The reasons for building this temple at its present site is not known. However, it is established that the temple is a contemporary of the Angkor Wat as many similarities have been identified between the two, and also with Phimai temple in Thailand.[2] It is reported to be the first temple built by Jayavarman VII in 1181 AD, opposite to the Srah Srang reservoir.[

Angkor Thom & Angkor Wat Temple Tips (Plus 1 secret!)
Angkor Thom & Angkor Wat Temple Tips (Plus 1 secret!)
What is the best order to see Angkor Wat and avoid the crowds? What are the MUST do temples? How to I organise an INDEPENDENT trip to Angkor Wat and make the most of my time there? Top tips, secrets and a look at what people get wrong about Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. This video is all about helping you make the most of YOUR trip around the angkor Wat Temples.
Siem Reap Guide:
Best Siem Read Accommodation
Emma lived in Cambodia for years and have been to Angkor Wat at least 12 times over the last 10 years, so I have a really good idea of what makes a great trip, how to best avoid the crowds and how to get the best photos.
Angkor Thom means “Big city” and refers to the larger complex of temples. Angkor Wat means “city temple” and is the main iconic temple in Angkor Thom. It is possible to see all of the main temples in a single day visit, but some people choose to stay longer.
Here are our top tips for enjoying Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom:
Buy your ticket the day before: Tickets are actually valid the evening before the day you plan to visit so that you can enjoy sunset the day before.
Pace yourself: The main temples to see are: Bayon, Angkor Thom and Ta Prohm (tomb raider temple). There are many less famous temples - so pick a few of these.
Wear bright colours: This will help you take epic photos for Insta :-) Remember the dress code - cover shoulders and knees. A thin scarf is very helpful.
Beat the crowds: If you want to avoid the hustle and bustle visit the less famous temples earlier in the day.
Top tip! Go to the south entrance of the main Angkor Wat temple for sunrise to avoid the crowds. Many people go to the pond near the west entrance- although this is very beautiful it can get SUPER crowded here.
Plan key times: Plan what you want to get from your trip. Here are some ideas: East Barai lake is a lovely quiet place for a beautiful sunset. Bakheng mountain temple for sunset is very busy - so arrive early if you want to do this.
Ticket prices:
$37 for a single day pass
$62 for a three-day pass
$72 for a weeklong pass
Getting around:
Tuk tuk: A fair price for a tuk tuk for one day is $15. You can find many tuk tuks around Siem Reap (especially near pub street) and agree on a price and timings with a driver. If you would like to go early for sunrise, it is worth finding a driver the day before and let them know where and when to meet. Remember it can take around an hour to get to Angkor Wat from Siem Reap - especially if you plan to buy your ticket in the morning. You can buy your ticket the day before and actually use the ticket to see sunset on the evening before your day trip. The ticket offices are on the way to the temples but quite a way out of town, so you will need to arrange transport to buy the ticket.
Bicycle: Bike rental is very cheap in Siem Reap. You can generally get a good bike for the day for a few dollars. Many hostels and guest houses offer bike rental. Because Siem Reap and the temple complex is pretty flat this is a nice way to see the temples.
