ANGKOR WAT Sunrise Tour | Tips for Visiting Angkor Wat
Book the same tour on Klook: It's an affordable and informative way to explore the temples.
Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia is a must-see! We went on a sunrise tour of Angkor Archaeological Park began with sunrise at Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm, and Bayon Temple!
Many get confused but Angkor Wat is just one of many temples within the Angkor complex. The beautiful pictures you see online and on social media don't do it any justice. It's something you must see if you ever get a chance. As you approach the temple and the sun begins to rise slowly behind it, an impressive reflection cascades onto the two ponds below. It doesn't stop there though. We let ourselves get lost inside, behind, and above. There are some many places within Angkor Wat to explore!
After Angkor Wat, our tour ventured to Ta Prohm, a temple in the middle of a jungle well-known for being featured in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider starring Angelina Jolie and the enormous trees that have grown atop and through it. You'll hear an orchestra of birds and insects chirping inside this quiet jungle temple.
Our last stop, Bayon Temple (aka Smiling Temple), features an upper terrace with several towers that have four smiling faces each. It's hard not to smile back knowing that you are standing on an ancient temple and UNESCO World Heritage site.
You can explore the temples on your own, but one of the best ways to discover and learn is through a tour. There are several tour companies in Siem Reap, which can be booked through your hotel or just walking through town. We chose to book the Angkor Wat Sunrise Tour in advance with Klook: Sunrise tours begin very early, about 4AM, but totally worth it.

How To Travel CAMBODIA On A SHOESTRING: Siem Reap Travel GUIDE 2019
CAMBODIA TRAVEL GUIDE - Here's how to travel through Siem Reap and some general tips for traveling in Cambodia. I stayed mainly in Siem Reap and saw the temples at the Angkor Wat complex, which is what almost EVERYONE who comes to Siem Reap and Cambodia in general does. Really amazing places and I have some tips for moving through South East Asia and Siem Reap.
I actually wrote a HUGE blog post about South East Asia which you might find interesting here:
I spent 3 months backpacking through South East Asia. The countries I visited were Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. I would say these videos show how you can do Southeast Asia on a shoestring as we went to very budget friendly places. This video is a mixture between a backpacking vlog and a street walking video. I like to show what it’s REALLY like in the places I visit.

Quick Tips Siem Reap, Cambodia - Visa, Currency, Tuk Tuk, and Other Helpful Travel Tips
Travel tips for traveling to Siem Reap, Cambodia
Follow me on Instagram to stay up to date with my adventures: @rhanzpants
Travel Tips:
1. Visa - go to the link below to apply for a Visa online. For the photo just take one using your phone against a white background and upload to the online application.
2. Immigration - once you get to the terminal head towards immigration desks and to the left of that area you will find a table with arrival and departure forms, which look like small packets on my video. The airlines did not give me one during the flight, which they typically would.
3. Currency - bring a lot of US dollars, especially singles. Most things you buy will be in the $2-$3 range. Don't bring anything greater than a $20 bill.
4. Tuk Tuk - definitely hire one from beginning to end and if you do reach out to my driver Pi Bak (Facebook link below) who can be reached on WhatsApp. He can pick you up from the airport for $5 and can take you around all day for about $20.
5. Where to stay - I stayed at La Da Kiri Hotel below. Hotel was ok but very close to all the night markets. I recommend looking for hotels around this area at about 2-3 blocks away from the markets.
6 & 7. Night Markets and where to eat - Eat at the Night Markets! Check out the two main night markets below.
Angkor Night Market
Pub Street
8. Temples - Check out the link below. Pace yourself! You need to buy a ticket which gets you in to all the temples. I was able to do all in one day but you can do multi-day tickets. Don't recommend doing the tour in the link, rather just get a tuk tuk to take you to each place.
9. What to Wear - shorts and t-shirt, it's hot! A towel for when it gets hot walking around. light scarf and sunglasses during the tuk tuk ride, it can get dusty.
10. Tipping - appreciated but not expected.
**Siem Reap Airport Lounge Tips
Priority Pass lounge is available. After security and immigration go through the duty free shopping and keep right. You should see it at the end of the hall part the garden.

Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Cambodia
Angkor is one of the most important archaeological sites in South-East Asia. Stretching over some 400 km2, including forested area, Angkor Archaeological Park contains the magnificent remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire, from the 9th to the 15th century. They include the famous Temple of Angkor Wat and, at Angkor Thom, the Bayon Temple with its countless sculptural decorations. UNESCO has set up a wide-ranging programme to safeguard this symbolic site and its surroundings.

*If you visit Siem Reap, you must visit the ancient Angkor Wat. It's an incredibly well maintained temple site with massive, ornate, well- preserved temples and other buildings. Admission into Angkor Wat costs $20 for a day pass, so for my fellow $20 per day budget travelers, be sure to factor this one in to the cost of visiting Siem Reap!
YEAH, SO WHAT, we went over the budget... Just trying to celebrate our TENTH episode of 20 Dollar Traveling!

This is the Grand Circuit inside Angkor Archaeological Park in Siem Reap!
Our day at Angkor Archaeological Park starts with an attempt to see the sunrise. Unfortunately I'm visiting during rainy season and therefor there are too many clouds. I start the day exploring Angkor Wat and have a chance to get on a higher part of the temple which gives me a really nice view.
The first day my tuktuk driver took me around the Small Circuit, today I'm all up for the Grand Circuit. With my husband I visit Preah Khan, Preah Neak Pean to the Eastern Mebon and the various monuments like Ta Som and Preah Rup. We end at Angkor Wat agani hoping to see somewhat of a sunset. Unfortunately that doesn't happen, but I do get a chance to take some great pictures.

Deep in the forests of Cambodia’s Siem Reap province, an ancient stone city soars skyward. This is the sprawling complex of Angkor Archaeological Park. The site is located in the northwestern region of the country and is only four miles from the city of Siem Reap. The Khmer Empire’s various capitals thrived here from the 9th to 15th centuries, over an empire that stretched from Myanmar to Vietnam. Including forested areas and newly discovered “suburbs” Angkor covers more than 400 square miles—an area considerably larger than New York City’s five boroughs.
The massive Angkor Wat is the most famed of all Cambodia’s temples—it even appears on the nation’s flag. The 12th century “temple-mountain” was built as a spiritual home for the Hindu god Vishnu.
The temples of Angkor are architectural masterpieces laden with artistic treasures like the bas-relief galleries that tell enduring tales of Cambodian history and legend.
Angkor is as much about water as it is about stone—the site boasts an enormous system of artificial canals, dikes, and reservoirs. The West Baray reservoir is the largest of which at 5 miles long and 1.5 miles wide. These massive works skillfully harnessed river and rainwater to quench the thirst of some 750,000 residents in the world’s largest preindustrial city. That water also irrigated wealth-producing crops like rice, which served the Khmer as currency.
It’s still a mystery to scientists why the city’s rulers abandoned the site and resettled near the modern capital of Phenom Penh. Some scholars speculate that the downfall of this elaborate water system led to the end of Angkor.
The town of Siem Reap is the gateway to Angkor and is filled with lodging, dining, and tour-package options for all budgets. Those preferring to travel by boat can also make the trip from Phnom Penh in some five or six hours—about the same travel time as by road. The airport in Siem Reap has service to Phnom Penh and regular flights abroad to Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, and Laos. The airport in Siem Reap has service to the capital and regular flights to nearby countries.
Peak tourist season in Angkor is December and January, when rainfall is less likely and the climate is most kind. No matter the time of year, a visit to Angkor is sure to leave you awestruck.

Siem Reap - Cambodia (Dec 2018) by KOA
Siem Reap - Cambodia (Dec 2018) by KOA
A must destination for many of us. Not an amazing place for kids but truly historical and you got to admit this one of the 7th wonders are really top of the world. Siem Reap is pretty small and temples focused destination and less than a week exploration is fairly enough for quick tour around Siem Reap and its wonders.
To cut short, not many places of interest but you got to chose the best place to stay which is at least not more than 10km away from Angkor Wat. We choose J7 hotel due to its high rating and humble hospitality. Shopping mall, 24-hour mart and food centres were just less than 5 minutes walking distance and 15 minutes taxi ride to Angkor Wat from our hotel make ease for other day plans. Apart from Angkor Wat, there were multiple temples but you should choose wisely and the main would be Angkor Thom, Baphoun Temple and Ta Prom Temple. Remember Tomb Raiders II :)... You won't stand a chance to missed all these major movie scenes.
Angkor Wat is the most famous ancient temple site in Cambodia. Visiting the ancient Angkorian temples is the reason most visitors come to Siem Reap. Expect to burnt at minimum USD50 per person including entrance to all major temples and half day taxi ride and small food bites with couples of beers or coconut to chill your body under the hottest land in South East Asia. If you don't know how to purchase the ticket, no worries that all ticket whether online or manually, can only be purchase at only 1 office in the city which cost USD37 for 1 day or USD72 for 3 consecutive days entrance. You need to be present personally at the counter and that 's the law. Therefore, please hire a taxi driver who will guide the purchase and include driving you along other temples apart from Angkor Wat. It's not necessary to spent further for personal tour guide if you did a pre-visit to their National Museum which only cost USD12. You can do this a day prior to the temples visits and I'm pretty sure your brain will be equipped with basic ideas of the Angkorian temples.
Apart from temples, do visit their Fishing Village known as Kompong Phluk with estimated 900 family members living on floating house. You will be guided on a speed boat for couple of hours and advance ticket can be purchased at USD27. Not much to explore but you will be lucky enough to see a truly undeveloped civilians with high poverty and yet they smile at you all the times.
Other light activity such as Smile of Angkor, their night live theatre cost at minimum of USD35 which includes buffet dinner would be perfect for a last night adventure, before returning back to hometown. The show last for 75 minutes and performers are well trained professionally .
Do enjoy some Cambodian foods especially their AMOK, a coconut based steam dumplings filled with fish meats or chicken and covered with banana leaves. In Malaysia, we called them Otak Otak and direct translate to English would be Brainy Brainy???
Before returning back to hometown, don't forget to help the people of Cambodia by buying some nice local made clothes which is so cheap...USD2 each. For me, i got myself more than 10 pieces of clothes and one amazing Angkor Wat oil paintings.
Good luck and enjoy you upcoming destination!

Siem Reap, a resort town in northwestern Cambodia, is the gateway to the ruins of Angkor, the seat of the Khmer kingdom from the 9th–15th centuries. Angkor’s vast complex of intricate stone buildings includes preserved Angkor Wat, the main temple, which is pictured on Cambodia’s flag. Giant, mysterious faces are carved into the Bayon Temple at Angkor Thom.
