Budweiser Brewery, St. Louis, Greater St. Louis, Missouri, United States, North America
Anheuser-Busch Brewery is a brewery complex in St. Louis, Missouri. The brewery, opened in 1852 by German immigrant Adolphus Busch, is designated as a National Historic Landmark District, and includes three buildings listed as National Historic Landmarks. Free public tours of the brewery are given. The tour takes visitors through the complex, and those of the legal age can enjoy two free glasses of any Anheuser-Busch product in the Hospitality Room after the tour. Tourists can see beer being made and packaged in a working part of the brewery. The company keeps a rotation of its famous Budweiser Clydesdales at its headquarters; the historic draft horses were originally used to pull wagons carrying beer in the 19th-century days of the company. Visitors to the brewery can observe the Clydesdales in their exercise field and see their places in the carriage house. Some of the herd is kept at the company farm in St. Louis County. Known as Grant's Farm (having been owned by former President Ulysses S. Grant at one time), this complex is home to a menagerie of animals such as elephants, tortoises, and a variety of exotic hooved mammals. Since 2008, approximately half of the Budweiser Clydesdales are kept at the Warm Springs Ranch near Booneville, Missouri. The brewery was designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1966. The landmarked area includes 189 structures spread over 142 acres (57 ha), including many red brick Romanesque ones with square crenelated towers and elaborate details. The Brew House, built in 1891-1892, is particularly notable for its multi-storied hop chandeliers, intricate iron-work, and utilization of natural light.
Budweiser brewery, St. Louis, Missouri, United States, North America
Budweiser is a pale lager produced by Anheuser--Busch InBev. Introduced in 1876 by Adolphus Busch it has grown to become one of the highest selling beers in the United States, and is available in over 80 markets worldwide. It is made with up to 30% rice in addition to hops and barley malt. Budweiser is produced in various breweries located around the world. It is a filtered beer available in draught and packaged forms. Budweiser is brewed using barley malt, rice, water, hops and yeast. It is lagered with beechwood chips in the ageing vessel which, according to Anheuser-Busch, creates a smoother taste[clarification needed]. While beechwood chips are used in the maturation tank, there is little to no flavor contribution from the wood, mainly because they are boiled in sodium bicarbonate [baking soda] for seven hours for the very purpose of removing any flavor from the wood. The maturation tanks that Anheuser-Busch uses are horizontal and, as such, flocculation of the yeast occurs much more quickly. Anheuser-Busch refers to this process as a secondary fermentation, with the idea being that the chips give the yeast more surface area to rest on. This is also combined with a krausening procedure that re-introduces wort into the chip tank therefore activating the fermentation process again. By placing chips at the bottom of the tank, the yeast remains in suspension longer, giving it more time to reabsorb and process green beer flavors, such as acetaldehyde and diacetyl, that Anheuser-Busch believes are off-flavors which detract from overall drinkability. Budweiser remains one of the world's lowest rated beers on notable rating sites such as BeerAdvocate.com and RateBeer.com. Some drinkers prefer the lightness of beers like Budweiser and consume it as a refreshment or for its inebriating effects, Several beer writers consider it to be bland. The beer is light-bodied with faint sweet notes and negligible bitterness, leading to reviews characterizing it as a ...beer of underwhelming blandness. Even Adophus Busch didn't like it. Based upon sales, it is the second most popular American brewed pale lager among North American beer consumers. Budweiser and Bud Light are sometimes advertised as vegan beers, in that their ingredients and conditioning do not use animal by-products. Some might object to the inclusion of genetically engineered rice and animal products used in the brewing process. In July 2006, Anheuser-Busch brewed a version of Budweiser with organic rice, for sale in Mexico. They have yet to extend this practice to any other countries. Anheuser-Busch was one of the few breweries during Prohibition that had the resources and wherewithal to convert to cereal beer production—malt beverage made with non-fermentables such as rice and unmalted barley and rye, and able to stay under the 0.5% limit established by the Volstead Act. Following the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, the major breweries continued to use unmalted cereal grains to provide the full body and mouthfeel of a real beer while keeping the alcohol content low. During the Prohibition Era, Budweiser encountered its first major obstacle to profit and growth. As alcohol became illegal to sell and produce, all alcohol companies, including Budweiser, struggled to remain profitable. Budweiser began producing non-alcoholic beverages during Prohibition to counter its ill effects. Prohibition began in 1920, and lasted into the middle of the Great Depression in 1933. These are two major setbacks that this company experienced. Just as laws regarding prohibition were repealed, Budweiser was faced with more serious economic struggles, which made their success (like all other companies) very unlikely. In attempt to re-stimulate interest in their beer, Budweiser executed a hugely successful marketing strategy of introducing beer cans for the first time in 1936. This new packaging led to an increase in sales which lasted until the start of World War II in 1939. Over the years, Budweiser has undergone various design changes to its can which are discussed in the table below. Many of these changes are in response to market conditions and consumer tastes. Since 1936, 12 major can design changes have occurred, not including the temporary special edition designs. The table below describes each of the 12 major can designs. The Budweiser bottle has remained relatively unchanged since its introduction in 1876. The top label is red and currently reads Budweiser. The top of the main label is red with a white banner with a pledge on it, which has changed three times. Below the banner is a coat of arms of sorts, which features an Anheuser-Busch stylization. Below that is a large white box.

Budweiser Brewery, St. Louis Missiouri, USA
Whenever you're in St. Louis you have to visit the Budweiser Brewery.
After a tour of this huge brewery, you get 2 free samples of ice cold Budweiser Beer (and some little bags of pretzels).
Just make sure you have some breakfast before you go, after walking around the brewery looking at everything, your stomach gets empty quickly & the beer goes to your head & here I was thinking Light meant low alcohol..... nope, it means low carbs.
To keep this brewery operating through prohibition, they used to have a bakery on site producing cakes, bread, donuts & other baked goods. Non-alcoholic beer was another product during prohibition made at this brewery, but the needle-sticking moonshine runners made the non-alcohol beer whole again.
C-SPAN Cities Tour - St. Louis: History of the St. Louis Brewing Industry
Hear about the St. Louis brewing history. In the early 19th century St. Louis saw a large number of European immigrants, many from Germany, put down stakes in the city. These newcomers introduced their culture, including brewing lager beer, to the new world. Sharon Smith, Missouri History Museum Prohibition Historian, tells the story of Lemp Brewing Company, at one time the largest brewer in St. Louis and how Prohibition brought an end to their success—allowing another St. Louis brewing giant, Anheuser-Busch, to become a St. Louis staple.
